Super Star Wars games and "Who shot first?" poll on Wii

Author
Time

I don't know if this is of much interest on this forum, but any Wii owners can download Super Star Wars, Super Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back and Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi from the Wii Virtual Console. (The ESB and ROTJ games might not be up yet.)

Also, there's a poll on the "Everybody Votes Channel" asking who shot first - Han or Greedo. Naturally, I voted Han. I'm really interested to see how the results come out. There's going to be another poll about which is the proper way to watch the saga. I'm guessing it'll be between starting with the PT or starting with OT.

And finally, there's going to be contest in the future on the Check Mii Out Channel to see who can design the best Star Wars characters in Mii form. Quite a challenge, considering Nintendo hasn't bothered to update the Mii system with new hairstyles, clothes or anything... but I've seen plenty of good Darth Vaders on the Check Mii Out Channel...

Lucas also continues to lead the fight for film preservation. "It's amazing," he says, "that you have to fight the studios to get them to preserve their films. . . . Parts of 'Dr. Strangelove' are gone; some of the music is lost. Kubrick is having to photograph individual frames to create a new fine-grain negative. That's madness, tragic madness."

Ooh.  I own both Super Star Wars and Super Return of the Jedi on SNES, but I've never played Super The Empire Strikes Back.  It'd be nice to complete my collection.

Unfortunately, my Wii is currently packed away; otherwise I'd be all over those polls.

How did the question become "Who shot first?"  If I recall, Greedo didn't shoot second- he didn't shoot at all!

Oh, and how much do the Super SW games cost?  I started playing one on a emulator a while back and was surprised and put off at how hard they were.

I wonder if the secret cave on Tatooine is still in the game? ;)

Well you could argue that Greedo was going to shoot, but didn't get a shot off because Han shot him* first.

They are very freakin' hard! Takes a whole lot of trial and error to progress in them, but they really are a lot of fun, me and my buddies spent countless hours on those games. I only owned Empire Strikes Back, but unfortunately I sold it at some point.

Probably. They don't really change the games at all when they put them on Virtual Console. They don't update the graphics or add online or anything. But there are some games that are slightly different from their originals. For example, Wave Race 64 used to have the Kawasaki logo plastered everywhere. On the Wii VC version, they're Wii and DS logos.

800 Nintendo Points each. That equates to $8 for one game. I think you have to buy 1000 points at a time, which would be $10. You'd need 3000, or $30 worth of points to get all 3 games. Go crazy with the extra 600 points you have left over.

And the poll asking which way to watch the saga is up. Either "I, II, III, IV, V, VI" or "IV, V, Vi, I, II, III". I voted for the latter.

Lucas also continues to lead the fight for film preservation. "It's amazing," he says, "that you have to fight the studios to get them to preserve their films. . . . Heh.  There should be options for simply "IV, V, VI," or, hell, just, "Star Wars," for guys like Anchorhead.

What are these other movies (1-3) that everyone is talking about?  It's some kind of inside joke, right.  Man,  I wish they would make some more Star Wars movies... that would be awesome.  I mean there's no way they could screw that up, right?

Now, my question is are they going to edit Super ROTJ at the end to replace Sebastian Shaw with Hayden?

I can live with 80% of the SE additions. I even like the PT (overall). But not releasing the OOT in respectable condition? That's unacceptable.

It will probably have "Jedi Rocks" playing in the background at Jabba's and they'll have added a stalk to the Sarlacc.

I remember The Star Wars games from Super NES. I hated that Super Star Wars didn't have any save points, so you had to play EVERY damn board to win the game! Super Empire Strikes Back, I could never beat Vader on Bespin, as he would kick my ass and say, "All too easy!" I never bought Super Return of the Jedi. Good memories from the mid 90's.......

And how about Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back for the NES? Without save points or any kind of a code system, those games were way too long. I remember playing through the Hoth levels of ESB countless times, but I rarely made it beyond that before I got tired of playing.

I spent so many hours in both of those games on the NES, and I am not sure if I ever beat either one. I ought to grab the roms from somewhere, load them on my DS, and tackle them with save states. I actually have a much closer connection with NES Star Wars games than the Super Star Wars games, though how well done the Super trilogy was cannot be ignored. The soundtrack alone made them worth playing.

I will keep my Super NES and super star wars trilogy games.

At least the supernes was not shovelware and worthy of the nintendo name.

Wii i don't own that gimmicky piece of hardware that does not do HD games, have a real controller etc.

Its really a shame because i owned both the n64 and cube and both had few good games.

i'm probably the only person who thinks the gamecube twilight princess is better because you don't have to fiddle with a nonsensical remote control that runs on batteries or the sensor being all screwry and wanting to smash something.

I do like the wii and the wii mote but there are some things i wish nintendo had tested better, worked on before putting the system out.  NO Hi RES rendered graphics or upgrade to HD down the line is a joke.  Nintendo used to be on top of the gaming world, not always in terms of graphics and technology but in terms of gameplay.  Gameplay and sales i would say they still have in spades, but the 360 and PS3 are far better in terms of technology.  Even the 360 is stuck in the past with being limited to dvd, only sony ps3 is future proof at least as long as blu ray lasts.

Have the star wars games at least lilke most of the wii channel games been remastered in 480P instead of 480i?

If the gout was any indication of lucas level quality back in the days of the super nes these games would have been released on the atari 2600,lol.

Oh I remember those.  They were insanely hard and I could never get very far at all without entering the secret passwords to get to later levels.  Actually I don't think it was even possible without the passwords.

I wish they would put the original SNES Star Fox on virtual console.  That too is very hard but it had much better music than any of the later Star Fox games.

Funny seeing Twilight Princess mentioned here, as I'm in the middle of playing through it a second time.  Sort of hesitant to finish it because of the sad ending.  I enjoy using the Wii remote, but it's true that having to go through batteries is annoying.

THis thread is giving me flashbacks. It took me and my brother FOREVER to beat SSW and SESB, and to this day I've never managed to get the Falcon out of the Death Star in SROTJ. Really, looking back, I dont think I liked those games very much (or at all)... it's just that they're "STAR WARS" and consequently, my young self couldn't accept that I didn't enjoy them.

How about ROTJ and ESB on the Atari?

Those games were great, flyin' around, shooting ATATs, or watching the Death Star slowly get built. All in two color pixelated goodness. Good times

Actually, the Wiimote was tested plenty. It was actually planned as a GameCube accessory. Just because some developers make gimmicky games with gimmicky controls, doesn't make the Wiimote itself gimmicky. It adds a lot in my opinion to games like Twilight Princess (can't wait for the exclusive Zelda Wii which will take better advantage of the Wii controls) and Wii Sports Resort is simply amazing with the new MotionPlus.

I don't understand this HD argument. I'm satisfied with the graphics of the Wii. It's hooked up to a HDTV through composite, so it could be better. But it's fine the way it is right now. Therotically, the Wii is capable of HD output. Gran Turismo 4 for the PS2 could output in 1080i. Though, somehow, the Wii is being pushed to its limits by games like New Super Mario Bros. Wii. I don't know why. It looks simple enough. It's definitely not as detailed or as fast-paced as SSBB. Not only that, but SSBB goes online - NSMBW does not.

Lucas also continues to lead the fight for film preservation. "It's amazing," he says, "that you have to fight the studios to get them to preserve their films. . . . HD "resolutions" for the Wii would help (see N64 games on an emulator at high resolutions), but "HD graphics" is still something else.  Just compare Force Unleashed at 480p on the Wii to 480p on an Xbox or PS3.  Not that it's the best looking game for any console, but still...

I wouldn't put it past Lucas.

of course, a video game is more trivial than the actual movie itself, so I doubt Lucas will even bother.

but like I said, he sank to depths that I never thought he would sink to with the 2004 DVDs, so...

Super Empire Strikes Back is now on the VC.

There's another new poll on the Everybody Votes Channel. "Have you ever tried to use the Force like Luke?"

The results of the other two polls are in.

Who shot first, Han or Greedo - Han wins!

How do you watch the saga; 1-6 or 4-6, 1-3 - of course, 1-6 wins.... but if you watched the saga that way, you'd be bored half to death before finishing ep 1.

Lucas also continues to lead the fight for film preservation. "It's amazing," he says, "that you have to fight the studios to get them to preserve their films. . . . Hmm.  I'm actually a bit surprised and a very bit disappointed that 1-6 won out.  I guess too many kids vote...
