LOL! You're trying to police me NOW! Maybe you don't even realize you're doing it.

What is your assessment of the situation, Sluggo?

Just from where I am sitting, bingowings and ID are arguing the same point, just from different sides.

vaderios has effectively showed us that at the very least TPM need a colour fix but this thread is really about ideas that may radically alter the prequels.
It's a spring board for editors who want to take the existing material and really shake it up, rather than just nibble at the edges.
Already there seems to be some moves in that direction with some new edits but I don't want us to lose focus on the mission statement.
Some of the colour changes are radical (when they set a very different mood) but the case for a clean up has been made here now."
Is this really necessary? I for one was enjoying the screenshots Vaderios was posting. It was an inspiration to me. So why cut it off at the head? What was it hurting? It was generating excitement over what was possible with mere color correction of the Prequels.
That's just one example of many. We also have him trying to police the board with this very thread. But, BingoWings is not on trial here and I'm not the prosecution. I simply wanted to bring his attention to it, because others might be offended and not speak up. I'm not like that.
And no, not trying to "come out of the woodwork" to poison the forum here either. That's laughable. My reputation and history of participation here speaks for itself.
That thread is about ideas that radically shake up the prequels (as opposed to just making a few minor changes here and there) now colour correction is a great idea and one that Vaderios had made with great aplomb (as he always does, I could look at his work until the cows come home) but colour correction on it's own is not a radical change and the case for that was made, the examples he put up showed clearly that TPM was presented in a rosey hue which took away from the visuals so in that thread it was pretty much case proven.
Vaderios had posted (mostly on other threads) examples of colour alteration which went beyond just correcting the colour and changed the mood of the scene (which is a radical change).
That thread serves a purpose and I was trying to get that thread back on track (which isn't really something to worry a moderator about because no rules violations had happened there).
I started that thread with a mission statement and after a long period I specifically reminded those contibuting what it was.I conceed that, that is steering but it's steering contributors into applying their imaginations and skills to the purpose of that thread.
I think if someone starts a thread with a clear mission statement they have a degree of legitimate responsibility to remind contributors what it is without getting a moderator involved.
Which is why I posted the address of the rules thread because this isn't it.
That was you being assertive. Not you trying to police posters around.

No, that was you being a douche and it's been pissing me off for weeks and really turning me off to this forum lately, so I finally had to say something because you're doing it in almost EVERY thread!
If Bingowings' personality is really that big an affront to you, there's always an "ignore" feature that you're free to utilize.
Every 27th customer will get a ball-peen hammer, free!
InfoDroid refuses to see reason. He's unwilling to face the cognitive dissonance in doing so. We may as well leave it to the forum members circulating through this thread to decide for themselves who's the reasonable party.

I've replied to your posts in good humour and without feeling the need to call names, I don't even post on almost every thread so perhaps you have an exaggerated impression of what you perceive to be a problem here.
If you have a genuine concern about my conduct please refer it to a moderator or send me a PM but this is not a thread about moderating policy (I am not a moderator) it has a specific purpose laid down on the front page and I shall not comment any further along these lines in this space.
Niether will I. My thoughts about it have been clearly stated.

Thanks for the help, Guys. But I don't need to be lectured on how to use the forum's features. The point is, I shouldn't need to hit ignore. It just shouldn't be happening. Period.
Come on guys, don't negate everything I just said about this place! Can't we all just get along?

But are you bigger than Rod?
I just want to take a moment and publicly apologize for what I said to Bingo and anyone else who was offended by my comments. I had no right to say what I said and no right to even criticize him for doing something that is obviously well-intentioned. He was right on every point and I was wrong.
It's out of character for me to do that, and I'm sorry for it.
I harbor no ill-will toward Bingo, and I've PM'd him with a more in-depth explanation and hopefully he accepts my apology and it's water under the bridge at this point.
Anyone who has any questions about it can PM me directly.
Sincerely,
ID

Just saw a quote on Imgur which is just as applicable to Fanedits:
“Fan fiction is a way of the culture repairing the damage done in a system where contemporary myths are owned by corporations instead of by the folk.”
-Henry Jenkins, Director of Media Studies at MIT, 1997.
You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.
Episode 9 Rewrite, The Starlight Project (Released!) and ANH Technicolor Project (Released!)
Woah… that is… surprisingly accurate. Seems more like something that would be said today not all the way back in 1997.
I’ll throw in my .02 on the topic…
Basically, the level of fan-editing I prefer is inversely proportional to my love of the original.
Two examples:
Star Wars ESB (The original theatrical cut): Damn near the perfect movie as is, so in terms of fan-editing, I greatly prefer an effort that un-does the changes in the Special Editions, and brings the coloring / lighting / VFX up to date. So basically, technical corrections versus story corrections.
Kenobi. Horribly put together series with all sorts of issues. What I’m looking for in a fan-edit of a project like this is something that salvages it, for lack of a better term. That entails stuff like editing down to a movie, major story restructuring, etc. BIG changes. If a fan-edit turns out something I really love against an original that I hate, the fan-edit becomes my new go-to and I will rarely (if ever) watch the original again.
Lastly, there is a third sub-category of fan-editing that I like, but more in a ‘okay, that was cool’ sort of way without taking it too seriously. This would include projects like “The Battle of Dol Guldur”, “The Battle of Scarif”, etc. These creatively use assets from a larger movie or series to create a self-contained mini-story. It can be a really good use of extraneous material cut out of a fan edit of an original piece that is too long and convoluted. Yes, Hobbit trilogy, I’m looking at YOU. 😉
At the end of the day, fan-editing is like writing fan fiction. Everyone can tell the story they want, and others are free to enjoy it or not, as they choose. But I never think of a fan-editor as ‘ruining’ the original project. It’s a hobby, done for love and respect of the source material. If my vision differs greatly from the work someone else has done, that’s okay. I can go find something I do want to watch, and no hard feelings.
Fan Editing is a quasi-academic form of criticism and viewer-response/interaction with the source material.

Yeah, it’s the modern cinematic equivalent of organic development of stories through retelling.
