New Indiana Jones DVD's - No Blu-Ray — Page 2

If this had the deleted scenes (which they were supposed to have been preparing back in the four-disc box), I would go for it. As it is, I'm suspecting there will be a four-film release when KOTCS comes out, which will hopefully be the big release for the series, and include deleted scenes, maybe some screen tests, etc.

I think what's more insulting than that is that among the 'special' features they list game demos that some people won even be able to access anyway.

It's not too often that you see a Raiders poster that features Indy without his hat.....

Seems like a cash-in on the fourth film to me, and none of the new features look that interesting. Yawn. There was a time when I'd have probably bought them too. But at this point, I don't care. And Spielberg STILL won't do commentaries.

At least RAIDERS didn't change the actual title screen in the movie.

Another change has been announced. They're digitally replacing Indy's whip with Calista Flockhart.

Really? I thought they were digitally removing it and replacing it with a tennis racket. He only uses it in self-defense, holding it up in front of him like a shield....

Is anybody else not surprised by this? (the double-dip and lack of deleted scenes or any real extras)

At first I felt insulted, and then I realized I should expect it by now.

My advice if you have the earlier boxed set already: don't buy anything until the Blu-ray comes out. As Obi-Wan would say, "This is not the Indy set you're looking for." I know there's also a boxed set of these new releases coming out, but Amazon lists it as a 3-disc set... hence, no extra disc with supplementaries even there. Just hold off for the inevitable Blu-ray release, and watch your 4-disc Indy set in the meantime.

And move along, move along.

Last I checked Amazon, the old Indy set is flying off the shelves, but these don't appear to be making much noise.

The old indy set was a complete POS. Hopefully this new set has a better transfer, better audio.

It's doubtful that it's going to be new transfers with new audio. Most likely it's the same transfers, same audio, just like when they split up the '04 SW transfers and released them individually in '06- same transfers, same audio.

The most amazing thing about this is how long it took them to do it. Just a year after the four disc box set of the SW Trilogy was released they rereleased it with different cover art and without the second disc, just two years after the initial release of Star Wars on DVD they rerereleased it with even more different cover art, a crappy bonus disc with an LD transfer of the films we really wanted all along, and individually packaged. Since the IJ four disc box set pre-dates the SW four disc box set, you'd think they would have released this at least two or three more times than they have already. Just shows you that IJ is not worth as much as SW. Which is why we are fortunate enough not to get a IJ prequel trilogy about Indy when he was a kid or a crappy TV series... oh... wait...

Has anyone documented the rumored alterations/fixes that were made to the movies for the '03 dvd release? The reflection in the snake pit is the only one I know about.

As far as I'm aware the alterations are the digital removal of the glass as you mentioned, the removal of "production equipment" and I've heard the rails that the boulder runs on have also been removed. I also think there might be some sound changes.

I've found it's hard to find a list of the changes because they are few and far between.

I seem to recall some minor changes to the removal of the heart scene in Temple of Doom. But this was done for the home video release not specifically for dvd. Maybe someone else can confirm this?

No, TOD is intact, it was only Raiders that was tweaked, as mentioned above. They are really so invisible that its not even worth noting. The only exception is maybe the cobra reflection--I sort of miss seeing that, but thats the purist in me.

No, the heart removal scene is slightly censored - less than the old video release, but it is definitely shorter than the theatrical. I was disappointed when I saw it.

I agree with what Mielr said. These will probably be the same transfers. The information were given implies it is so. I have the first set at home and I don't need these new ones. They are a ripoff.

EDIT: I also say what Darth Evil said is true as well.

Back in '03, did Lowry restore the Indy movies at 1080p like they would with Star Wars the next year or was it actually in 4K as I've heard rumored?

Really? What was so bad about it? I don't remember there being that many complaints about it when it came out.

WTF? The old Indy set was fucking awesome dude. The picture was remastered by Lowry digital to a point where it probably looks cleaner than the original camera negative does. The audio was great too. You need to keep things in perspective: in 2003, there was no 5-disk sets. The Indy set was top-of-the-line, and it still holds up as an above-average set (especially considering it now retails for about $25-35).

Nu uh! They digitally removed the glass so you can't see the reflection anymore (I could never see it anyway), so it must be a gawd awful transfer!

To Skot and Zombie84 and LordJedi, remember I am expressing my OPINION.

For one the audio mix fades in and out at certain times, the video exposure to my taste was too dark....

You're not talking about the UK version are you? That's always been censored to my knowledge. In the US (and down here in Oz) ToD has always remained the same as the theatrical version as far as I know and can tell.

Hey man, go for it! If you don't like the transfer, and it looks like your opinion is based solely on the transfer, then that's cool. My remark was just a sarcastic remark to the people that didn't like the DVD release because they digitally removed the glass. IMO, complaining about things like that is along the lines of complaining about the removal of matte lines from Star Wars (which I think is a stupid complaint).

I've honestly never heard anyone complain about the transfer on the Indy DVDs, so I was a little surprised when it was mentioned.
