Anyone else see this? It’s on the official Star Wars site.
They found an old 11 minute promotional video for Star Wars merchandise, from 1979.
Pretty cool that they posted the footage online.
It’s in flash though…but my guess would be that someone here could download it off of the site…
I think it would make a neat little extra on a dvd…

Hella, I FINALLY got it. That was annoying. But I got a massive essay due soon, so I won't be able to put it up tonight. They are pretty big though.

May the Force be with you.

I'll try and rip it off the site later tonight. No guarantees though, lately I haven't had much luck with some videos, but I'll still try.

No luck on my end with the method I usually use to grab embedded video. I get the files, but they always wind up incomplete or with some kind of playback issue. I'm hoping you can put yours up soon. I can't even watch the thing on the website without hiccups.

God, I hate Flash video. The whole starwars.com video section is now converted to it, and not only is it a pain to try to watch (let alone save), but the quality sucks compared to QuickTime (which is generally excellent). Why'd they have to do it? One step forward (for security, I guess?), two steps back (for quality and playback). Good job, guys.

I completely agree with everything regarding the flash videos on the Star Wars site, SKot. Sorry I haven't put them up earlier. This essay is kind of slaughtering me. I had the same thing with playback issues as well, but only on the second part, which I didn't understand. Essay is due at midnight tonight, so I plan to get them up soon after that.

EDIT: I just tested, and even though the second part raw flv file doesn't play correctly, I can still convert it to an avi, which will then play fine. So I think I got it. Like I said, after the essay, which will be after midnight (for me at least) I'll put them up.

Alright, they are uploading as I type. The zip file has both the original flv files and my converted avi files, clocking in at 301.29 MB. As I state in the zip folder, I didn't do any fancy converting to get the avi's, so if you want to try and get some higher quality ones, use the original flv's and go for it. On my computer, the flv of the first part played in both Media Player Classic and VLC, while the second part wouldn't play correctly in either of them (WTF) but it still converted to avi fine I think. Seriously, I don't like these new StarWars.com videos; they were so hard to snag. Hope you guys enjoy. This is gonna be a long upload, so I'll get the link to you when its done, which will be after I sleep, cuz I'll just let it run through the night.

How did you snag them? I couldn't manage to get Firefox's Download Helper plugin to recognize the Flash video that was playing so I could download it.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

Yes, thanks a bunch Darth Payne! Finally I was able to watch it and enjoy it in .avi format. I couldn't get the .flv files to work right either - GOM Player claimed I didn't have the right codec to play them or they were damaged, and VLC Player crapped out on me after a few seconds of playback.

Since we are going to be forced to deal with .flv (Flash Video) files, I think it might be good to discuss what method works best for converting .flv to another format, what program to use for that, and also what player(s) are best for raw .flv playback. Personally, I like to use GOM Player for playback since it's the only one I've found so far that allows both full-screen playback *and* (most importantly) the ability to skip through the file to any point of playback, something that VLC Player doesn't do (it quits if you try).

May I just reiterate how much I hate Flash video content?

I too am hating this new flash video on the official website. I miss the good old days of quicktime so much. The thing that gets me though, is that these particlar flv files seem to be more troublesome than normal. Like, for me, Mediaplayer Classic and VLC had been fine for other flv files of mine (even though like SKot said, VLC can't skip >_< ) but both are having trouble with these files. So I dunno what is going on. But they are just such a pain to work with.
