They riffed the version that's on Google Video, which is a rip of the WMAR broadcast, complete with commercials.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

I saw that they linked to that, does it say somewhere that that's the copy they riffed? I thought they were just showing you where you might perhaps be able to see this "unavailable" show. That would be awesome if they riffed on the commericals as well.

They do riff the commercials, and they did use the version on Google Video as their source. In fact, the DVD copy that is soon to be in the RiffTrax office is one I just sent them.

SKot, Rikter, ReverandBeastly & the 'rest of the gang'

Any particular thread here on the OT forums that can offer some
very basic guidance on how-to make a personal edit hey?
Specifically I was thinking of getting my feet wet trying to do
something like burn a DVD with one of the variations of the
Holiday Special. Not sure if its rather complicated to add a
few basic menu options like a commerical DVD [to put some
additional related content on it like the script or the Ford interview].
Also could use some advice on software for sure ... apologies if
there is an obvious answer and I overlooked it while surfing
the forums! I am about to secure a highspeed connection and
want to try and build me a DVD of the Holiday Special for my
own personal collection but do not just want to buy one of the
E-Bay ones. Appreciate any assistance

Has anyone made a cover for the KCCI version of the SWHS? I may take a crack at if not.

Last Christmas a friend of mine gave me a copy of the Holiday Special. The DVD was a great gift but the quality wasn't that great, and the commercials were edited out (rather poorly). I'm looking for a copy that has the commercials, and is of a decent quality. Any help is greatly appreciated. You can email me at kevin@flatearthfilms.net

Reading through this thread has gotten me a bit confoostered :/
Can anyone please definitively state which is the best quality version of the HS out there? Could some kind soul please help me out with getting this one?

If television is chewing gum for the mind, then the prequels are the worlds first visual laxative.

Video quality of the KCCI broadcast is currently unsurpassed.

The KCMO broadcast also includes the commercials and, while not as clear as the KCCI, is also watchable.

I have a couple of copies of the HS. How do I tell which version I have, what are the key things to look for? One is a VHS I got at a con years ago, the other is a DVD a friend gave me a year or two back.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

Skot's wonderful website has a comparison page:

The key is the station identification during the animated segment.

Ok, my DVD is KCCI. Tape is in storage, so I'll have to dig it out to see which one it is.

So, I have the best version available?

Without a doubt. Hang on to that one; it's a keeper.

Also, be sure to post here what you find out about the version you have on tape. I'm always curious to know. My page documents all the most common versions out there, but there may be a few more we don't know about.

Just curious- I have a few different versions of the HS, the KCCI being the best overall, of course. However, there's a major audio/video glitch at the end (at the end of Chewie's flashback sequence).

I'm wondering if anyone has ever fixed this using other versions of the HS that don't have a glitch in that spot?

Hey everyone, I think I might have found a new copy of the Holiday Special. Back around February I was browsing around on Youtube and found this pristine scene (for youtube) from the Holiday Special. I'm no expert on the various copies floating around out there but it's the cleanest copy I've ever seen. So I contacted the uploader asking about where he had gotten his copy and he told me the following:

One that I found myself! The guy recorded it at SP mode on a VHS tape, if you believe it. It's too bad he didn't leave the commercials in, but other than that it's complete.

Rick

I told him that you guys might be interested in it and he was completely open to being contacted about it. What do you guys think?

I think this looks like a winner.  The picture and color is very sharp.  It may even be better than the KCCI copy, or at least as good, and worth looking into for preservation's sake.  At the very least, it's a broadcast version I've never run across before.  Does this guy Rick own the original tape now, or did he just make a copy from the guy who does?

I typically watch the HS at least once a year at Thanksgiving or Christmas time. Yeah it's dorky, but there's some good stuff in there and fond memories to boot (I saw the original broadcast when I was young) . I'd love to see any kind of improvements that can be garnered from a new copy.

Good find and please keep us posted.

I just got one from someone over at FanEdit.org who said it's better than the KCCI, but I'm in the middle of moving to a new apt right now so give me a week or so to have a chance to compare them and see what's up.  A quick scan thru it shows promise but I want to look for specific parts to compare one to the other.

I'm not entirely sure but it sounded like he did from what he said.
