I'll try to make it as well.
There's good in the Original Trilogy, and it's worth fighting for.

For years I've wished I could go to one of these. I know it'll happen someday.

But for now, Friday evening will consist of getting drunk/something else illicit and watching Star Wars.

Hey look, a bear!

Crap. Is it this weekend? Figures.

Maybe I'll try to go Monday.

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

There is an interesting video here showing stuff from the Lucasfilm Archives Exhibit, including early Star Wars concept models by Colin Cantwell.

Posting from my hotel room at the moment. I got a lot of good pics in the archive exhibit on Friday. I'll try to get them posted next week when I get back.

I didn't see anybody on Friday morning. Oh well, would have been nice to meet a few of you. I'm manning the FanForce/TFN table a lot the next couple days so come by and say hi if you get the chance.

Last night was pretty interesting. They evacuated the convention center because of a bomb threat while the opening ceremonies were about to begin. Only they didn't evacuate the people already inside the hall where the ceremonies took place and the event went on as scheduled. I wasn't there but my friends tell me everyone else had to evacuate to the other side of the street and watch while the bomb squad went in and did their thing. All the while the opening ceremonies went on as planned.

On another note, yesterday I got to watch both the full rough cut of the upcoming film 5-25-77 and a 45 minute sneak peek of Fanboys. Both of these are going to be awesome movies and I can't wait til they come out.

I just watched stuff on G4. They interviewed the computer sfx director from the PT and he talked about how when he first took on the role of desiging the look for the PT, he felt an overwhelming burden to make sure that he did everything just like all the fans worldwide would like to see the Star Wars universe in the pre-Clone Wars time period. He discussed it with GL and was told, "You don't have to please everyone in the world, you only have to please one person - me."

Mission accomplished!

Yeah, I thought the same thing.

Man, if I wasn't such a broke ass blue collar I'd go straight to LA for this, it'd be great. Not only am I broke, but I'm terrified of flying, so it'd take me a couple days driving to get there plus with $3 a gallon gas, I'd be even more broke when I got there.

Wish I could have attended this thing! It's good to know 5-25-77 hasn't fallen off the radar, although it's going to miss the boat if they don't release it this year.

I arrived pretty late Friday and never got to see anybody either, but it was still a pretty great convention nonetheless. I really enjoyed all the costumes there (except for the web-slinging stormtrooper, which I thought was just wrong) and the events were pretty excellent.

How many got to see the Vader Project? That was one of the best I thought.

No DVD news, huh? Not a huge shock.

I went Friday as well, and my daughter had a blast. The fan films were great. On a side note, there were no lines at the star wars shop at 4pm, and the only line I had to stand in was at the Hasbro booth to get the @#%! exclusive Luke. The full size Jabba was impressive.........

According to TFN, Natalie Portman wasn't asked to go to CIV. That's a shame if she actually wanted to go. Even though she sucked in the movies (and pretty much great in everything else she does), she should have been asked if true.

No one stopped her from going. So she didn't get an invite, big deal. The entire Star Wars world knew when CIV was. She could have easily come by unannounced. Hell, if she wanted some extra security, she could've called someone at LFL. I'm sure the troopers in the 501st would've been more than willing to escort her backstage.

She was invited to the previous three Celebrations and didn't want to go, now she's "upset" that she wasn't invited to this one. Whatever.

Did Lucas bother also bother attending?

While news and previews for Kurtz's 5-25-77, the Clone Wars, and Fanboys interested me, I too expected something to come out from Celebration 4 about a box set of some sort.

Finally mde it back from c4 and I got to say how pleasantly surprised I am at the amount of OT fans that showed up. There were plenty of fans who you would not normally see at a Celebrations, the older ones who have always loved the movies but never would have gone to a con. I certainly enjoyed it more than CIII, of course the weather was more cooperative. Got Lorne Peterson, Dennis Muren, Jon Berg, and Phil Tippet to sign my bug ILM book.

Got to see the early cut of 5-25-77 and attend the panel the next day. It is going to be a darn good movie when it's finaly edited together. And my biggest ego moment was when I was asked for my autograph because i was in the cast of Return of Pink Five.

Oh, it wasn't a bomb threat actually, but a bomb scare. Apparently there was a "suspicious" package across from the convention center and security was called. When it was discovered that it was nothing more than suspicious "Hasbro" package, they ook down the poilice tape and opened everything up again. I even took some tape as a souvenir. Authentic LAPD police tape.

Does anyone have any high resolution photos they would like to share? My camera flash malfunctioned, so I only have two shots from my Friday at CIV. If any of you have generic photos of the troopers, Jedi, Dirge, etc - please PM me. The ones I found at Flickr are low res. Thanks!

I'd like to show up at least one day (never been to an SW convention.) Need to run into Zion....dude still has my LD!

(I wouldn't mind a newer, bigger X0 shirt as well. )

Were you there? You might have seen me, then. I was there all five days, mostly sitting at the FanForce table and/or humping the legs of guys in Vader costumes.

The Ralph McQuarrie concept exclusive is up on StarWarshop. It's even in the exclusive packaging. How much were these figures at the show? Looks to me like a dealer (toyrocket.com) picked up a bunch and are selling them back to fans through StarWarsShop.

After some uncertainty on how it would all work out, I attended all of Celebration IV. Verdict: I really enjoyed it. Here's the big reasons why:

- heavy emphasis on the Original Trilogy, hardly any on the prequels
- this was the most well-run Celebration yet (I've attended all 4 now, and they finally fixed most of the problems!)

I certainly wish I'd been able to meet more people from here while I was there. As it was, I did manage to meet a few more people than last time, so that was good.

All in all, it was a fantastic time. I had time to do just about everything, and was able to do all the shopping I wanted and then some... and still have time to leisurely take in some of the lesser events and attractions.

The two big things I thought were missing from this convention, though:

- George Lucas (no more SW films to be tied up with, yet you couldn't make the big 30th anniversary?)
- Mark Hamill (this was all about YOU, buddy... what could have possibly kept you from showing up for ONE HOUR?)
