Hyperspace: Good or bad?

I stopped buying SWI a long time ago, when the price went way up and the content way down. I am not a member of Hyperspace, and probably never will be.

Are there any subscribers/members here?

I haven't had a fan club membership since the middle of last year. I don't really feel like I'm missing anything.

The Insider magazine has had its ups and downs. Ever since the prequels, the Insider has been mostly about hyping the next movie, which I think is a very shallow approach. It's basically turned into Entertainment Weekly for Star Wars. Back before the prequels, the Insider was full of interesting retrospectives (Wonder Column) and thoughtful articles (like the article on the Lost Cut). If Titan can return to that, then I might get interested again.

But I will NEVER subscribe to the Insider as long as it's bundled with the way-overpriced Hyperspace. They really need to offer separate subscriptions.

Actually, I wish they would just eliminate Hyperspace altogether, since it's basically a subtle attempt to control Star Wars content on the Internet (like the free hosting for Star Wars fansites that they were offering years ago). They should keep the Star Wars website free and make it just for news, photos, and the occasional movie files. (My God, how does Startrek.com afford to run a website without subscriptions?!) Then, they can beef up the Insider with the articles that used to be posted to Hyperspace. And because it will be good, subscriptions to the Insider will go up!

I think I need to send a letter to someone in Lucasland.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

There was NOTHING offered by Hyperspace to make me continue my membership beyond a year.

I watched the Episode II webcam for, like, ten minutes and got bored.

I got a cell from the Ewoks cartoon of an...arm or something.

I got to see the trailers for Episode II and III before they were available on Hyperspace.

I don't give a wamprat's red ass about the EU or old issues of Bantha Tracks.

So, no - there was no reason for me to continue. Plus, the price point in Canada is ridiculous, and even the exclusive shop items cost an arm and a leg to ship here. Go figure.

To be honest, I have very little interest in Star Wars anymore apart from watching the 6 films every now and then, I was exhausted by it. The only way I would ever consider re-joining Hyperinflatedspace is if they were to offer up some revolutionary, groundbreaking, you're never-gonna-see-this-anywhere-else-we-promise or your money back content for Indiana Jones IV.

I think the time for Hyperspace is over.

I was a member since the very beginning, and in the beginning it delivered: some great video content, early looks at trailers/etc., and Photoreceptor (which was the main reason I subscribed - all those amazing cut scene photos, behind the scenes looks, weird Holiday Special shots, etc.). It was great at the start, and worth every cent for me.

But then Photoreceptor stopped. The video content was very sparse, and rarely delivered anything as exciting as the initial hype promised. There were a few other vaguely interesting things, but nothing I should have been paying money for. And the Insider? I totally echo what Erikstormtrooper said about it: for years it's been way too focused on hyping the prequels, in particular the next upcoming film. Content that I used to love (the Wonder Column and David West Reynolds' cut scenes articles were great examples) disappeared in favor of fluff I didn't care about. I used to read every word of the Insider from cover to cover. Now I find myself skimming through, maybe reading the odd article now and again, but mostly finding myself bored because 90% of the content was about the prequels.

Well, now the prequels are over, and there are no upcoming films to hype. The fair weather fans are going to fade away now, leaving the lifetime fans to carry on. It's time to get back to supporting those core fans.

The bottom line is this: there are no more films coming out. Star Wars is no longer the gigantic hype machine it was when new movies were around the corner. There is no reason to expect that people are going to want to pay for content anymore, and Lucasfilm shouldn't be able to get away with charging for it now. It's time for them to go back to all free content again, and for the Insider to get back to the kind of articles that used to make me eager and excited to read each issue.

I had hyperspace for 1 year and didn't renew my subscription because it is way overpriced. Hyperspace should be discontinued because the films are out and done and no one should have to pay for news on an upcoming DVD release or stupid webstrip or picture. I mean what is there to charge for? Hyperspace is internet robbery at its best.
