How do you watch the Star Wars Saga?

Author

I often debated this with many people and have asked this question many times but i still do not know the answer? How do you watch the Star Wars Saga do you watch them from the Original Trilogy to the Prequel Trilogy? Or do you watch them from the Pequel Triolgy to the Special Edition Trilogy. Lucas says watch them in order from 1-6 as they were ment to be seen but which trilogys do you watch Special Edition or the Original Unaltered Trilogy? What do you guys think? To celebrate the 30th Anniversary next year im going go to do a Star Wars marathon.

How do you watch the Star Wars Saga?

With the eyes of a five-year-old.
I am fluent in over six million forms of procrastination.

How right you are Digital Man.

I watch it like this. Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi. Sometimes, just Star Wars, or just SW and ESB. Sometimes just ESB and ROTJ.

I enjoy watching the OT from the couch, with something to eat, or drink. Preferably both.

I can watch the PT while either drunk, or asleep. Preferably both.

I watch all six films TPM ATOC ROTS SW ESB ROTJ but I watch them individually, I am not interested in watching it in George's order 1-6, I might if I have the time watch a trilogy but I am not bothered about spending a huge amount of time watching all six at in a day or watching them over a short period of time and I dont watch the 2004 Trilogy I watch the OOT or a fan OT when I watch the original films and George's Prequels when I watch them though I find the fan ones interesting to watch.

SW, ESB, ROTJ and the OOT-spinoff-trilogy next to never (even though I also used to be interested in them - until the total disaster of "episode three" occured, which blew my potential prequel fandom into eternal oblivion).

How do you watch the Star Wars Saga...?
I usually watch the films with my 10 and 7 y.o. daughters (both OT freaks w/little to no knowledge of the PT) in this order: SW, ESB, ROTJ.

To celebrate the 30th Anniversary next year im going go to do a Star Wars marathon.

How about this? For the 30th Anniversary of the beginning of the OT, watch the three OOT films in order. Then, in 2029 watch PM>AOTC>ROTS to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the beginning of the PT -- if the PT is still meaningful to you. My guess is that it won't be, and you can save yourself 7 hours of precious time.

Thats a lot of TV/video game playing. But you left out X-Wing and TIE Fighter. LOL

Actually, its kind of hard to watch the entire saga. If you are trying to preserve the whole ESB "I am your Father" suprise, its really tough without watching it 3-6, then 1-3, even though some have suggested a "Godfather II" style viewing, with I, IV, II, V, III, VI. That sounds interesting, and I might try that sometime when I get the chance.

I use the Holiday Special to let other's know it's time to leave.

If people make it past that, there's usually some kind of prize involved.

X-Wing and Tie Fighter are awesome games, but the Rogue Leader franchise is better at nailing the excitment of the films (Not to mention they are a bitt easier to play through).

to celebrate the anniversary of the firing of three very mean former teachers of mine every may 17th, here's how I do it:

5 days before: The Phantom Menace
4 days before: Attack of the Clones
3 days before: Revenge of the SITH (one of the ONLY times the prequels are watched streight through)
2 days before: A New Hope (OCP's Classic edition)
1 day before: The Empire strikes back (2004 official version)
the day itself: Return of the Jedi (OCP's classic edition), followed immediately by the "Night on Bald Mountain/Ave Maria" segment of Walt Disney's "Fantasia"

How do you watch the Star Wars Saga?

On a tv. </bad joke>

The order I would watch it though if I wanted to go through all the movies in one day would be this.

Star Wars
The Empire Strikes back
I
II
III
Return of the Jedi

So far though, I have not done this. I just haven't had enough time in a day to get to watch all the movies. So, I basically watch them in random order whatever movie I want to watch that day.

I watch my bootlegs. SW, ESB, and ROTJ. The PT does not exist to me and my children will not be exposed to it.

1-6

mainly because we've all pretty much seen them for the first time 4-6, 1-3 and I like the Prequels so I watch it that way. Then again each movie has their own feel and sometimes I may be in the mood to just watch one of the films without the rest. It just depends.

I understand a bunch of you don't like the prequels or SE's, but to keep your kids from drawing their own conclusions seems a bit severe don't you think?

It's just Star Wars, not a satanic tome.

Why would we not show it to our kids?

1: Completely ruins half the surprises of ther OT. I want my kids to be mesmerized by these things.

2. Young kids will like the PT more than the OT. Statistical fact, I'm sorry to say. And I will have no child of mine yapping about how cool Anakin vs. Obi Wan is while I try to get them to watch the OT.

3. The special effect of the PT are not things to be appriciated. My kids will learn to appriciate REAL special effects, not crappy CGI. If they see the PT, they'll think thats good effects, and the effects in the OT are bad (which they are NOT).

4. If kids see them, they'll be pointing out all the plot holes in the "saga," and won't listen to me when I try to explain that Lucas is a hack. I'd be shooting myself.

5. I want the OT to be the first films my kids see when they grow out of Pooh and Barney. I want the OT to be the movie that brings them into the real world of moviegoing, which is an experiance lots of people had in 77. I did not, but I want my kid to have that experiance, to feel that magic. The PT cannot give them this. TPM would just put them to sleep with all the bad dialouge. The OT is simple good vs. evil, something all kids can understand. I want them to be exposed to films in the most magical way possible, and that is the OT.

So Go-Mer, it's not a satanic thing. It's a matter of how I want my kids lives impacted by the films. I will also not be teaching them the episode numbers, or any of George's "master plan saga." If I ever do show my kids the PT, it will be when they are 12 or older so they can see just how bad they are.

Before each episode of the prequels came out, I would watch all of the movies I had just prior to seeing the new film in the theater. Now that all the films are out, I tend to just sit down and watch particular scenes. I find am more inclined to watch the OOT all the way through than I am the prequels, though. But these days, with the random access of DVDs, I often just watch certain portions of all the films... and the Holiday Special.

I'll be throwing a Star Wars party on May 25th, 2007. I'll get my friends and family and we'll watch Star Wars, and if we have time, the other two. I'll have the soundtrack playing on the boom box before and after we watch the film.

I only get time to watch movies every other weekend or so, as I usually make time to watch one SW movie if I can. I will always watch them in order SW, ESB, and ROTJ and I can usually complete the trilogy in a month or two, and then start over again. I tried to watch the PT 1-6 once, and by the middle of AOTC I was feeling more obligated to watch the PT movies rather then WANTING to watch the movies for pure enjoyment. I stuck it out cause I wanted to atleast give old Georgie a shot and say I had watched the saga 1-6 over a couple of weekends, and I have never done it again. The thought of starting at TPM and not really get to anything remotely enjoyable til some of the things that occur in the last hour of Episode III, and then finally getting to something I love at Episode IV?

The PT movies actually made me appreciate the story of the O-OT 4-6 now cause it shows how a story can get lost if you don't plan beforehand. The O-OT was not planned beforehand and it still works well as a story of The rebels vs empire as you follow Luke, Leia, and Han for 3 movies and then there is a subplot with Vaders redemption at the end of ROTJ to give it more depth then your average fantasy movie.

As I said, I want to watch the OT films, I love to watch the OT films, I felt obligated to watch the PT films when I was still in my faze of wanting 1-6 to work, and it took me to finally realize if you are forcing yourself to watch a movie because it is part of the story, then Lucas failed with the PT movies.

I'll watch original trilogy or prequel trilogy films if I feel like it on a whim. (The original Star Wars usually wins here, then maybe Episode I, since either can be watched out of context, but I do often have a grand time watching the prequel films by mocking them throughout.) Otherwise, when watching the Star Wars films in a structured fashion, I will only watch the original trilogy (4-6 the unaltered versions). The structured way of watching the movies usually only comes once a year for me.

I remember the last time I organised a SW marathon, I called it "The 14 hours of Star Wars". This was before the prequels were even in spoiler format, right after I got the '97 SE's on laserdisc. I spaced the movies out with behind the scenes videos and of course the Holida special made an appearance. I had played it in chronological order (after ANH) but some of the later comers demanded I play it again at the end.

I had a CD player looping the soudtrack for each movie as they came on in the bathroom. People came and left all day, with some sticking out the whole way.

It got to the point where even I had to take a walk outside just to take a breather from the constant John Williams music.

If you are just saying that you want them to see the classic trilogy first as we did, that I get. I thought you meant they would never be allowed to see the other movies.

And there aren't any more plotholes in the prequels than there were in the classic trilogy. It's just kids don't notice them.
