 (Edited)

hey everybody,

just wondering if someone could explain the situation with the exclusive Best Buy tin. does it house the regular cases, or slimline cases, or just envelopes or what?

also (re: the OUT), i was reading some of the other threads, and am still unsure about the following audio bits …

  1. which aunt beru? the faces one or the aussie?-not the aussie
  2. does 3PO explain about the tractor beam being coupled to the main reactor in seven locations?-that’s a no
  3. close the blast doors?-that’s a no
  4. blast it, biggs or wedge?-blast it, biggs

thanks for your time!

edit:
5) you’re lucky you don’t taste very good?-that’s a yes
6) so’s life, kid (unlikely, i know)?-no dice

Whoa, I've never heard the line "so's life kid" ever. Which movie is it in and where? And where was it heard before?

Someone in another thread bought the tin. All the DVDs are in their proper keep cases.

omg, the tin is gorgeous! it holds all three regularly sized cases. the pics in the web make it look thinner than it really is. the best buy store in san diego only has 95 in stock and people were swarming like locusts to get them at opening. there actually was a line!

i heartily recommend it. btw, i'll update answers to my own questions about the audio as soon as i get the chance.

jenny: that line was rumored to be in one of the theatrical mono mixes, but i've never heard it outside of the npr radio drama. it goes like so ...

so's life, kid.
she's rich.

okay, i just scanned through the discs.
i own both the faces and the definitive laserdisc collection (and the japanese discs). i have a reference quality elite LDS2 pioneer laserdisc player ($5000 new), as well as two LD-V8000 industrial players that were previously owned by lucasfilm (the only LD players lucasfilm ever used). they aren't XO, but they produce a damn good image. i also own the editdriod rips and the rowman/47 rips.

to my eye, when played, these official discs look several factors better than any of the other copies i own. SEVERAL factors.

i couldn't be happier and am more than pleasantly surprised by the quality here (though anamorphic would have been nice .... oh well).

i for one am satisfied.

I just bought the Best Buy tin, and it's very nice. It does hold all 3 DVD cases (it's much thicker than in the photo) and it opens on both sides. $59.99 vs. $16.99 for each DVD, so the case ends up being $9.00. I haven't watched the discs yet....I went out at lunchtime to get it and I was worried they'd all be gone, but the store had plenty, and they weren't very busy. I think they'll be busier tonight when people get off work. They have a 4-sided display right as you walk in with the tins, the DVD singles and the new Lego game.

Now I'm thinking of getting these....but even so, it's only 45 for all three at Circuit City, which will be the cheapest, so technically you'd be paying 15 for the tin if you're going with cheapest.

So someone please answer me this:

Is it truly worth upgrading at this point from my bootlegs? My bootlegs are taken directly from the laserdiscs on DVD+R discs. They look fairly nice, the only one that I'm not entierly satisfied with is A New Hope.

No one can tell you whether or not it's worth it. It all depends on how much you value having the GOUT, and how much you value your opportunity cost -- factoring in all the intangibilities and and irrationalities that don't always get included in economic models.

if util_GOUT > util_OpCost
then purchase(GOUT)
else
purchase(somethingelse);

You people are EVIL!!!!

I was just gonna go home tonight and pretend that I don't know these new quality discs exist.
But noooo, you just HAD to start talking about a TIN BOX! And then you HAD to say it is so much better quality!

You are evil.

The scene was similar this morning at the Best Buy I went to here in Michigan. The manager told me the other day that they were only getting 75 tins so I got there before they opened and people were swarming for them the minute the doors opened. I was lucky to get one, they were gone pretty quick. Pretty cool little tin box, its hinged on the top and bottom so you can open it from either side.

I bought the tin at Best Buy in North Jersey for 60 spot... but I'm not opening it. Keeping it sealed in the plastic. I went at noon and no one else was there was buying any of the new DVDs. Then I went to Circuit City to buy individual DVDs for 14.99 and the lithographs are pretty damn cool. Same deal, saw no one buying any SW DVDs.

So your saying the tin just holds the three regular cases. I put Eps 1-3 along side the case and it seemed like they were too thick to fit in the tin... I was wondering for like three hours what was inside..

It looks pretty cool though. Wish I could say that about the chapter menus.

I went with the Circuit City purchase, since not only were they the cheapest at $14.99 per disc, but I already have the comic books (a really nice "faces" cover graphic novel boxed set), and I don't want the tin (I like seeing the individual discs on my shelf better than seeing a large $9.00 tin). And the lithographs are bigger than I thought they'd be, and rather nice. You can keep them in their folders or you can pull them out and frame them.

Thanks Mierlr. I think I'm sold. I'm heading on over to Circuit City to pick up the new Dragon Ball Z movie (the 13th and final one) because its only ten bucks over there. I think I'll pick up the trilogy too. After all, I really want those lithiographs.

The lithographs are awsome. I was expecting them to be the size of a DVD case, but they are so much bigger and far more beautiful than I ever expected them to be.

I bought the Best Buy Tin for $69.99 on September 23rd. I bought it when it became apparent that it was quickly becoming a scarce collectors item. I had already bought the three movies for $14.99 ea. at Circuit City, along with the lithographs. Does anyone know how many of the tin sets were sold? It certainly is popular on the secondary market (amazon, ebay) with prices from $59.99 to $199.99.

If you can even find it!

But, seriously, I would like to know just how many of these tins were sold.

Best Buy still had quite a few of them when I was there a week or so ago.

Best Buy had quite a few of them when I purchased mine on the Saturday of the first week it was on sale, but they're all gone now. Probably somebody bought them all and eBay'd them.

My Best Buy was rid of all of them when a went there a week after getting my set. Not sure if they sold out or just took them off shelves.
When I went to buy it, they were in the middle of restocknig the Star Wars display, and they had about 20 tins out when done. I think those tins sold pretty darn well. I'll vouch for them as the best way to store the Star Wars trilogy, they're really great.
