I'd rather not waste this thread on a hate campaign. Official complaints have been lodged where appropriate.

Just for the record, I am happy for someone to distrubute my DVD as long as it is non profit making. My suggestion is that you put these discs on ebay for cost only. So, about 2.50GBP should do it.

Have you thought recently about doing an ANH treatment sometime down the road?

I think that would be down the end of a very long road. I would love to tackle it actually and it has crossed my mind several times.

Given that I have the raw files of 'Building Empire', 'Returning to Jedi' and 'My Secret Project' on my hard discs, space might be the biggest set-back! I also wouldn't want to upset Ocp. I am sure my version would have it's differences though. We'll see.

Regarding the E-Bay thing: This sort of thing is starting to becoming all to common now. E-bay take them down, then another 2 go up in its place!

Do people not realise (or simply not care) that selling this stuff is very damaging to future preservations here at the OT forums?
I'd think twice about undertaking a project over the space of weeks/months or even a year, because it would always niggle away at the back of my mind that i may help to line the pockets of unscroupulous traders that burn some DVDs, print some covers, and actually think/convince themselves that they are actually helping spread the great work most people do here.
They are simply HELPING THEMSELVES by RAPEING these projects!
Also this causes unnecessary mistrust in our community with the people who we deal with here. I can assure you Jambe that the majority of members here genuine good people that respect the works of all its contributers - at least from my personal point of view.

OCP had an on going battle with this with Deleted Magic so perhaps he's a good person to ask for advice with this perhaps?
Also ask OCP what his thoughts on you making ANH are - maybe?
I for one would make a donation to buy Jambe a new HD (with them being so cheap aswell) if this could happen.

Agreed. Although distributing these things through eBay is questionable anyway (it's usually only used when profit is involved), if it was really sold at cost then I'd probably be okay with it. The real question I think is what "cost" really is. I don't think somebody should get to add extra cost on for time and effort, electricity, etc. Fan projects are a LABOR OF LOVE. That means you are going to expect to put more into this than you get out of it. And if you can't handle that, then you have no business being involved in it. End of story.

I wouldn't let the thought of what people might do as far as selling your work even enter your mind when doing a project. People are going to do what they're going to do, and all you can do is report them through proper channels when they do wrong. The creative impulse should come before anything else... do the project for the people who love it, and don't worry about the parasites. We'll fight them where we can.

While I am emphatically NOT involved with this ebay scandal, I kind of have to shrug if the guy is selling them for such a low price. You guessed it would cost him £2.50 (about $4) in materials versus the £5 ($8) he's selling for; factor in ebay and paypal costs--and they nickel-and-dime you at every turn--and he's making maybe $2 a disc. Throw in the sheer time/cost ratio (is an hour of your life spent making a disc worth $2 to you?) and he's losing money.

So do I think he's trying to profit off your work? Hell yeah. Is he actually? Hell no.

He may be fishing for fans to buy the discs from him, but if he's searching for a sucker, all he has to do is look in the mirror.

£2.50 was a very generous estimate, it's probably more like £1.50 He is also charging a further £2.00 for postage on an item that will cost less that £0.80p to post. So lets say he makes £3.20 on each disk.

Given that he has an ebay rating of 102 every transaction than can be viewed is for the Deleted Magic disk. Thats £3.20 x 100. That's a profit of £320. Thats $596. Not bad for a student or somebody who needs a little spare cash.

Besides, this is a thing of principal. Nobody should be making any money on these discs. Plain and simple. But I guess this is a certain amount of inescapable inevitability.

Aww dude, I hate to tell you this, but someone's just popped up selling BE on ebay uk now.

Ha ha. Oh well. I have resigned myself to this inevitability.

Looking at this guy's history, he has already sold a couple of copies of 'Building Empire'. I guess £3.99 is a bit more realistic for non-profit making. But as I've said, I just don't like the idea of my disc changing hands for any kind of money.

It's a shame that he is using that mock-up cover that I made in about 5 minutes. And all the other picture links are dead. Looking at the dead links does reveal some clues. Perhaps a name?

I wonder if this is the same guy again. I noticed that they became ebay members within 3 days of eachother.

Thanks for the heads up boba feta.

It seems this guy selling Building Empire is the one making the most profit too! Whilst the deleted magic guy is selling for £5.49 with fully printed discs and covers, this other guy is selling just the disk, blank in appearance for £3.99! (I think that pic on his listing of your mock up cover is just to spruce up his page, Jambe.)

A blank dvd would cost him 18p TOPS. And that's for a good one.

Anyway, how's Returning going Jambe? I'm thinking of working on my own fan film/documentary over the winter (coinciding with the film editing part of my degree) Anyone got any ideas?

I'm finally getting around to downloading this puppy, but I'm experiencing technical difiiculties. When I click the download link at the Spleen, I get a new page in my web browser full of coded nonsense. I experienced this before with a different torrent, but somebody provided a workaround link. I am a Bittornado user (shadow's experimental) and prefer to use that client, but can also use Shareazza if need be. Any suggestions?

As a point of note, for fans of this original project, can i lobby for more interest in the follow up Returning to Jedi project, as i dont want Jambe to feel as if his efforts are falling on deaf ears.

ok, I have been looking for this for about 5 months now and I am still unable to find it.

if anyone is able to make me a copy i will gladly send money to cover the shipping and the dvd itself. I really want a copy and these are so hard to find. Please help. I have no DVD burner and I cannot view it on rapid share or those sites, can someone help me out ???

I'm guessing roxygr means "Deleted Magic"? People generally lump them into a pseudo-trilogy. Both Deleted Magic & Building Empire are great - but they are don by two different people. I'm sure you're looking forward to Returning to Jedi as well?

To contact me outside the forum, for trades and such my email address is my OT.com username @gmail.com

You might want to enable PM's. It makes it easier for someone to help you out.

Right, I am feeling generous. I am not working a couple of days this week so I am going to burn ten copies of 'Building Empire'.

The first ten people to send an email with their name and address to jambe dot davdar at google's email facility will get em.

Ciao
