Lawsuit on George Lucas?

Lawsuit on George Lucas?

Hello, this is my first post. I’m only 18 so I wasn’t fortunate enough to see the originals in the theaters. The first time I saw star wars I don’t remember much. My mom put it on while I was building with LEGOs when I think I was 4 or 5, and I didn’t pay much attention to it. She also put on Empire Strikes Back after SW was over, but I didn’t pay much attention to that either since I was building with LEGOs. At that age I thought the scenes with Yoda were boring and I didn’t like the movies much. It wasn’t until I was 11 that I started to get interested into the movies. I have to admit that the hype of TPM is what got me interested in Star Wars.

I saw Star Wars on the WB with my full attention for the first time on May 21st 1999 when I was 11. I loved it. But it wasn’t until I was twelve on Jan.26th 2000 when I saw ESB and Feb. 5th 2000 when I Saw ROTJ. The reason why it took me gaps in time to see those was because I was looking for them on our collection of old Beta tapes downstairs. The condition of those tapes was terrible but they were the originals and I still love them. I have even become a little sentimental for the particular condition they are in. At the time, I thought all movies made back then looked as terrible as the aged beta tapes I was watching, but since then, I learned from this website that movies from that time playing in a theater actually looked even better than a Blue Ray transfer can provide.

Anyways, I followed this website consistently for awhile now and I have realized that this forum has become more of a gathering for people to find contradictory evidence of George Lucas’s quotes on his refusal to release the originals, respectively. Now that he is going to release them, but in an inferior non- anamorphic, not even from the negatives source: transfer, this might make it eligible for us to have a feasible chance at winning a lawsuit on Lucas' refusal, since he went back on his word. I am convinced that you people here have gathered more than enough evidence to put Lucas in jeopardy of losing a lawsuit for all his naive, stupid, contradictory reasons for not doing this. What do you think?

If I could sue George Lucas, I would sue him for the equal amount of money on all the profit he has made from SE DVDs, since they were false advertising and the OOT, since according to him, they don’t exist. I would also ask for him to hand over the real negatives of the OOT. That amount would probably be in the billion$! If I won I would split all the money with you people who are signed up on originaltrilogy.com, equally. That would mean we could all probably get 10s of thousands of dollars! I would give the negatives to a person who will give the films a respectable restore and transfer to DVD, probably to that guy who is offering to do this who restored Vertigo and Lawrence of Arabia. You see, unlike Lucasfilm, we are not interested in just money with this franchise. We love it and are willing to serve justice to SW even if we don’t make any money. (Ironic George Lucas has become the very thing the moral of his movies opposed.)

Yeah... you're gonna go far here.
For as much as some people claim to hate what Star Wars has become, they sure seem incapable of shutting up about it.

There's the old adage about catching more flies with honey than with vineger. This approach works best with Lucas. You kiss his posterier long enough (the Rickster) and you get to produce his movies. I'm betting if us fans start kissing up again, well get his attention. A lawsuit would only kill off the possibility of a proper release. George would leave the sandlot and take his ball with him.

Yelling at us here isn't going to get you very far either.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAWN!!!! Where are the intellegent answers? Okay people, I'm sorry about my ranting at you guys. But lets get serious here. Do you really think we could be successful with a Lawsuit?? I think we could. George Lucas has had long enough to release these. His time on the gravy train is over. This shoddy release was the last straw that broke the camels back. I've had it up to here with the likes of these people. This BS that we should be thankful for what we get is for the birds. Fuck the the kill two birds with one stone.

Honestly, no.

It would only tarnish the image of Star Wars fans.

It's too little too late for Goergie Boy. Hes had long enough. I don't even want him to do the transfers for us. I want him to give the negatives to someone who actually cares and has passion for the films and will treat them with respect. I'm seriously going to try to sue George Lucas if all you others are too cowardly or lazy. Maybe I won't split the money with you guys if you're gonna treat me like this.

Are you serious. I think it will make people look upon SW fans with more respect.

Are you serious? I think it would make people look upon SW fans with more respect. You're just saying that because you're too scared. None of us here like Lucas or Lucasfilm. I even will admit that I have death wishes on Lucas and Macullum.

You are passing up on a great opportunity to makes lots of money, make Lucas lose a lot of his money and make him look bad to the entire world and you could be well known and liked depending on how you handle your ego.

Attempting to sue George Lucas over what he chooses to do with something he created is going to "make people look upon Star Wars fans with more respect"? That's pretty rich, kid.

But if you want to try, be my guest. I'm sure a handful of old quotes is more than enough evidence to win the case, and you'll be back here to remind us of all the money, fortune, and fame you've received.

You want to sue Lucas on what grounds? False advertisement? Sure, it's an offense, but it's so common that if everyone sued every company that's done it, there would be no one left!

Actually, what points exactly did you have in mind for false advertisement?

So you admit you are in it for making money, and now you are on record saying that you have death wishes for Lucas and McCallum. Good luck with that.

Dude, those are some pretty sorry reasons to sue somebody. This is about film preservation, not Anna Nicoling somebody out of their loot.

I don't want money (well, OK; I do, but that's besides the point). I just want a high-quality OOT DVD release before I die. I seriously doubt that we could win a lawsuit against Lucas, and in any case, I don't particularly want to; like I've said, I just want high-quality OOT DVDs. It would be interesting to see what would happen, and if it would bring the OOT issue into the eyes of the mainstream, then I'd be interested. But quite frankly, I think that what we really need is to apply as much pressure as humanly possible to Lucas from other sources, especially since it does not look like the September discs will sell well. What we really need is some way to get the man's attention without ticking him off. And a lawsuit would not thrill him. At all. If you know any celevrities or mainstream media, contact them.

Even I am going to take a pass on this one. It's waaaaaaaay too easy.
"Among many things I have to be thankful for are you, the fans. I know that some of you haven't liked every single thing that I've done with the saga, and that you have a strong sense of ownership over all things Star Wars. But take that passion and devotion and channel it into a creative project of your own."

The only charge we can sue George Lucas is on false-advertising. He advertises the 1977 version of Star Wars for the september releases, and we're getting no such thing.

I wasn't sure I'd agree with Randy about something, but the beginning of this thread is the perfect example of taking it WAY too far and it only makes the rest of us--the sensible ones--look worse by association. I love Star Wars, but I'm not insane.
