If you had a complaint then why not go about it constructively? I was kind of skeptical when I first posted here cause I like the Special Editions, but it seems that over the short time I've noticed that people can constructively discuss any differences you may have in opinion about the Trilogy even if you disagree with the purpose of the site.

I'll admit that "AT FIRST" mind you I felt almost similarily to the original thread poster. I couldn't understand the big deal about the quality (and to a degree still can't) because I could sit down, watch a VHS copy and be satisfied with what I saw. Then with talking with both the folks here and on other boards I atleast understood, why the hell NOT release the Un-Altered Trilogy in better quality? I noticed alot of the campaigning material used for the September releases were DUE to the Un-Altered Trilogy, but yet he wants to capitalize on this and not put the effort in to make it look atleast up to par with other standard DVD releases? I like Star Wars but still it doesn't make Lucas look any less of a hypocrite in my view.

Oh wait, no, you guys probably don't believe in free speech, and that's probably why you keep bitching at George Lucas for original versions when he's free to release whatever he wants. Fucking communists.

Ah, but what kind of person would use Free Speech to revise history?

It's nice to see someone with an open mind. If Lucas thought more like you, this website would not exist. Whiner, why are you attacing people? No one insulted you. People on this website just want to be able to watch the original versions in high quality. That is all.

There's still good in him (Lucas), the money hasn't driven it from him fully. We can turn him back....to the good side

The genius known as "Whiners" attempted to change the e-mail address he has on file with us to an invalid address so that he could continue to post without us contacting him regarding his trollish behavior. What he probably didn't know is that when you change your e-mail address, a new random password is automatically generated and sent to that address to prevent specifically this type of thing from happening. So "Whiners" can't login now.

I think I'll leave it that way.

DOH!!!

I bet he ran back to TF.net and told everyone how he got banned by the commies on originaltrilogy.com.

He banned himself? That is pretty funny. I mean, really, really funny. Like when a jerk comes in the chat room and tries to hit on all the girls and one girl says that if he wants to see her webcam to hit alt + F4. Except there was no girl here. It was his own stupidity. That's really funny.

Hahaha. To think that he banned himself was a lol moment, even in the office!

And I like the Alt+F4 trick too. Too bad I'm probably never gonna get an opportunity to try it out.

Seriously, sometimes I have to take a step back and look at just how bass-ackwards it is to be a Star Wars fan. It's not like being a fan of any other movie. Whatever happened to the days when people just...made movies? Not going back and constantly adding pointless shit to them. These are MOVIES; just give us our movies as they first came out. Is that really so much to ask?

"So I can't have an opinion supporting Lucas unless I'm in love with him or sexually attracted to him, right?"

Oh, did we somehow misrepresent you...perhaps something along the lines of "He's probably some 40-year old virgin who has the stature of a baby and lives with his mom, crying in his stroller "I WANT DA ORIGINAL STAR WARS MOVIES!!! WAH!!!"

If you don't want none...don't bring none.

Well, this kind of thing has been happening with movies for years, and I would imagine that other forms of storytelling have had changes. The Hobbit had been revised several times after publication. King Kong had an entire scene removed after it's premiere. Heck, even the original Star Wars had a few changes after its initial release, notably in the sound track when you compare the mono to the stereo. The difference is, the Special Editions were changes made, like 20 years after the fact. Which seems to be an awful long time to just let it lie and then try to fix it again.

"Special Editions" and just plain censorship may have been around forever, but it's much more prevalent now (the director's 'special editions,' not the censorship, heheh)

King Kong was censored. It's since been restored.

Fantasia was censored. I believe it's been fully restored ... I've head rumours of one very racially offensive scene still missing.

Other movies in more modern times have had 'special editions' - - but I'm not aware of the original versions of those films being hidden away.

There's something about 1977 sci-fi/fantasy films that breaks the mold. Both Star Wars and Close Encounters were subsequently changed, despite massive success in their original forms - - and the original versions have not been seen (legitimately) since. CE3K was vastly more mutilated than Star Wars, and the scenes still missing 30 years later are far more vital to the story of that film.

But it breaks my heart that Star Wars has never again been available in its original form ... a form that sparked a world-wide mania! The veracity of the opening crawl may seem a minor matter to some ... but it's not just the start of one of the most famous opening scenes in cinema, it's a strong and sentimental memory for me personally.

It's one thing to revise one's artistic work; quite another to attempt history revision and deny the existence of artistic work widely beloved. Perhaps movie censorship is not as much a relic of the past as I would have hoped.

You guys are all a bunch of whiners. George Lucas changed the Star Wars movies so he could present them as he wanted to, and then you guys want the original versions. And now you're getting them, exactly the way they were showing them in theaters back in 1977, 1980, and 1983. But are you guys happy? No. You can't stop bitching about the fact you didn't get them in some certain format.

How could you people be so selfish? You've been whining for the original versions, you're getting the original versions, and now you want more. You actually, for once, WANT them to edit the original versions to your liking instead of getting the exact same experience you got in theaters almost 30 years ago. You're getting what you asked for, yet you want more. You people make me sick.

I can imagine the person who started this site. He's probably some 40-year old virgin who has the stature of a baby and lives with his mom, crying in his stroller "I WANT DA ORIGINAL STAR WARS MOVIES!!! WAH!!!" while his embarrased mom tries to shut him up when she's about to see Revenge of the Sith.

You know, Greedo's always been one of my favorite Star Wars characters, but ever since the special editions everyone's been whining about him shooting first and missing, and now he's changed into a one-dimensional character who misses all the time just because you people can't accept the fact your precious Star Wars movies were changed.

Quit bitching, you selfish bastards. Just shut up. You've gotten enough from your whining, enough to close down this stupid site once and for all.

Oh, and are you going to delete my post? Hmmm? Is that how you're going to counter me? Because I thought we believed in free speech, and seeing how this post hasn't broken any of the rules (maybe cursing, but that could easily be edited), I don't see any reason in it being deleted. Oh wait, no, you guys probably don't believe in free speech, and that's probably why you keep bitching at George Lucas for original versions when he's free to release whatever he wants. Fucking communists.

You idiot.

We are NOT getting the versions that were in theaters in the seventies and eighties. We are not getting the original mono track, the opening crawl is different now, among other little things. We are getting the shoddiest release possible. He might as well just release them on VHS again. He is trying to demean us by making the unaltered trilogy look like crap. You call us selfish bastards for wanting more, well, Lucas is the selfish battle. He's not giving us what we wanted at all.

And don't insult Jay and the other moderators by calling them 40 year old virgins. I have no doubt in my head you're fifty years old and the most action you've ever had was sneaking glances at your dad's playboys when he wasn't looking.

And we're not going to delete your post for expressing your opinion. But when you get to calling us communists, then it might turn into a deletion.

Hey, I've got a theory. This guy must be George Lucas expressing his views on us. This is Lucas' views on us exactly, so I think I've got a good chance of being right. After all, only a few people are this closed-minded.

And George, you're free to release whatever version you want, but take a leaf out of your friend Spielberg's book and give every version thet same dignity you gave the new versions. Just look at E.T. Spielberg messed with it (although his changes weren't nearly as bad as yours) but gave viewers the choice of which version to watch, and gave them both good video quality and anamorphic widescreen.

Spielberg is NOT a good example. Worse than George by any stretch.

Where's even the crappiest-looking release of Spielberg's 1977 masterpiece film? Huh?

Alright then.
