The film isn't dead. Not yet. The only footage George would destroy is his own negatives for the SE's. Lost the footage? Maybe. Destroyed it. No way.

Recreating this footage would be awesome.

Sorry - I didn't mean maliciously destroyed, and I think you're right, lost would be a better comment, but you have to remember that in those days when a rush didn't work, or scene was aborted after a few shots, the footage literally ended up on the cutting room floor, and it was just chucked away - all part of the job.

I'd love to see that scene resurface, or indeed just some shots - that'd put a whole new tilt on this saber

More news on 'Returning to Jedi'!

I am soon to interview Toby Philpott, 'Jabba's left Arm'.

I thought I would open things up and ask you to submit some questions that you would like answered.

So, have you ever wondered how long Toby spent inside Jabba each day, or if he could see down Carrie's bikini? Then just post your questions on this forum and I will try include them in my interview.

Many Thanks
JD

I wish I could think of some questions, but I can't, other than how many weeks/months of his life were spent in Jabba's guts. That is great, though, that you've got him on board for this. Real classy.

Are you going to sneak in GL commenting on how special effects without a story is no good (from From Star Wars To Jedi)?

It's disappointing that nobody wants to submit a question. I would appreciate a little input here people!

I won't spoil it with all my ideas published on the forum Andy, but yes Georgy boy will be saying that.

Well, heck. It seems like he had a front row to all that was shot. I just don't know how much he would have been able to have seen. Can you ask him about some of the cut scenes? Would he know if, for instance, much of the 'lightman' stuff was filmed? Peter Diamond followed 3PO down the corridor to the throne room. Would Toby have seen anything like this? Was it him in the From Star Wars to Jedi special who was smoking the cigar?

haha ask him:
What creatures in the water were? (Frogs?)
And if they got in to Jabas Body when he eat them or they just cutted it?

Hope you understand it.

Would he have been around for the scene of Luke hanging from the Rancor pit grate? Maybe I'm thinking too linear and assuming those things were actually in the same location as they were in the movie, but I thought they showed a view of Jabba's face through the bars.

Toby was the guy in the Yellow top controlling Jabba's left arm and the head swivel.

Thanks guys for your input. This is as much your project as it is mine (well...you know what I mean).

I would definitely ask him what it feels like to have been a part of the SW phenomenon.

Well, I can't think of a lot to ask about given that Toby's view while inside Jabba was pretty limited. But I'm definitely curious to know what other roles he may have played in the film, if any. Often with extras in the production (especially little people) they are called upon to play other bit parts or perform other functions as well.

I wonder if Toby was there when they shot the sequence where Jabba's dancer fell into the Rancor's pitt half naked.

POSSIBLE BAD NEWS ALERT

My wife just called to say that she installed the Mac OSX 10.4.7 update and now the machine won't start.

I am away on business and have been reading up about this problematic update which has been causing problems for people across the world.

Several posts mention that the system disc can become corrupted and that there will be data loss.

Some of 'Returning to Jedi' is on my external drives but there is also some on my main system drive along with everything else.

This could mean there is a massive delay on it's release or it could mean that I will not have the time or motivation to start again.

I will bring you up to date when I get back home on wednesday.

This is awful news.

I had always thought that Macs were virtually immune to those types of problems.

A myth perpetuated by Apple and their "We're perfect" image.

This is very sad to hear though. I hope everything turns out ok. I know what it's like to lose the data you've been working on.

"Then the Emperor has already won..."

Seriously, though, I hope this doesn't turn into a Mac vs. Windows debate. This is a shame no matter what the operating system.

I really hope that nothing has been corrupted/deleted, or very little. This is such a great project.

JD,

Will your mac not power up or can it just not completely boot? If it can power up and you can get the optical drive tray open, put the Tiger installation DVD in there and boot from it (power up holding down the "C" key). Run DiskUtility once you have access to the menu bar at the top of the screen. If the HD is recognized, click repair disk and hopefully that will do it. I haven't read anything about this on Macfixit, and things normally turn up there. If the disk won't mount and isn't recognized by DiskUtility, I will personally send you a copy of Prosoft's Data Rescue II. It's an emergency boot disc/data recovery program. It saved my ass a few months ago and is awesome. I'll do anything I can to keep RTJ going. Needless to say, I'm now religious about my backups. I have an external firewire drive that I clone my internal drive to once a week with the free CarbonCopyCloner. If your internal drive is toast, you'll need an external drive to recover to. Let me know. THIS SUCKS!!!

You can go about your business. Move along, move along.

MoveAlong, thanks firstly for 'The Story of Star Wars' , I got home today and it was in my pile of post.

I haven't watched it all yet but from what I have seen it's a VERY professional looking disc! Congratulations on doing such a great job.

Thanks also for the offer of help.

The good news is my Mac is up and running after the update scare. It was not booting basically and after some trouble shooting I found that there was a conflict with 10.4.7 and my Canon scanner Login items. Very that it would cause it not to boot, but hey, I am a happy man again.

Thanks for the offer of the Hi-Res Sandstorm photos, I have actually sources some already thanks the the kind folks on this forum.

All the best

Whew! Good to hear. That backup strategy is still a good idea, no? I was finally able to sit down the other day and devote around 3 hours to really absorbing Building Empire (easter egg and all). I watched it when it first came out, but wasn't REALLY able to give it the time it deserves. It's even more brilliant than I first thought. Bravo, and I can't wait for RTJ....
