Hey guys,

Someone has offered to sell me the following pictured box set, but I haven’t been able to confirm whether it is a letterbox widescreen release or not?

I went to davisdvd.com but haven’t been able to match this set up to any particular release specifically.
The set is a PAL release, which would have been sold in Australia, and possibly in other PAL nations, and I’m told it’s from 1992.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers,

RATLSNAKE

I can't confirm it by any means but Widescreen Fox vhs's generally have a 'WIDESCREEN' banner at the top of the spine.

I'm almost certain its not.

The first widescreen VHS release AFAIK was a special collectors box of the 1995 Faces release. This just looks like a regualr poan n scan 1992 release.

90% certain it's NOT widescreen.

When a release was widescreen back then, they definitely wanted to brag about it and use it as a selling point. I don't see 'Widescreen' easily visible anywhere on that package, so I'd be really shocked if it was anything but pan and scan.

This looks like the PAL version of the "signature" box set I have, which is definitely not widescreen.

On the up-side if you're interested in buying them they're a dime a dozen.
Some were not blessed with brains.

I was thinking this boxset may be this one that davisdvd.com mentioned:

Release Format: VHS

Release Date: 1992

Studio: CBS/FOX

Technical Comments: 2.35:1 letterboxed transfer with HiFi Stereo Surround sound

Comments: VHS re-release #7

Other Comments: This "Special Collector's Edition" tape features a newly-transferred and corrected letterbox transfer, completely doing away with the "incredible shrinking ratio" that plagues the 1989 laserdisc. Available separately or in a navy blue box set that includes "From SW to Jedi" tape, book, certificate and a hologram of 1977 artwork on the box

The seller has informed me they are fullscreen. Not sure whether I should still get them for collectable reasons.
