Info Wanted: Old SNL shows - has any done a preservation of them?

I’ve been watching SNL since the beginning. It has had it ups and downs and I don’t want this to become any kind of debate into what cast ruled, etc…

But I was just wondering if anyone has archived older episodes to DVD? I liked the Billy Crystal years. And when stations occasionally show old ones on TV they are usually edited down to 60 min. It would be nice to see some of that stuff in it’s original format. Back in the late 80’s they released many VHS tapes of full shows from the first few years. And other that those best of DVDs that are out I don’t believe any full shows have been released on DVD format.

In some areas, NBC runs "classic" episodes in their original length around 2 or 3 in the morning on weekends. Some stations air crappy infommercials instead! This site is a good source of info on upcoming repeats. NBC has been in a rut of airing 90's shows lately though.

Where were you in '77?

I haven't mentioned it anywhere yet, and it's not actually full SNL shows, but last year with the help of a good friend I finally completed a project I've been wanting to do for at least 15 years now: a full and complete collection of Mike Myers' "SPROCKETS" skits. Originally I wanted to compile them all on videotape, but obviously over time the logical choice was to make a DVD out of it.

The hardest part was getting hold of all the skits, since nobody I knew had all of them. Finally I ran across someone who did, and though they were were not all very good quality, I had at last the complete set of 14 skits, 1989-1997 (plus an alternate version of one particular skit for bonus content). I conceptualized the disc and the menus, and my friend David did a fantastic job of capturing the video, cleaning up the audio, and putting it all together under my direction. I think it turned out great. The only thing I would really want to fix would be the quality, if I could find better copies of the shows someday.

I'd also like to do a similar project for "Goth Talk" sometime.

I would just LOVE to see the old episode where Mel Gibson and Danny Glover did their "Lethal Weapon" thing, ever since somebody told me about it... does anybody here happen to have that?

I have that and the interesting thing is that when it was shown in rerun it is a different take. It may have been a rehersal take or something. Currently it is lost in my pile of tapes due to be transfered one day. But I am sure I have it.
