Info: Holiday Special on 16mm? — Page 3

I just took a look at that page again. He has now updated, saying after reviewing the film reel, it runs just over 90 minutes, which is the length of the special.

I'm still trying to pry some real information out of him. 2 days left on the 7-day auction, and still we know virtually nothing, and haven't seen a single photo (as promised). Rather frustrating...

Interesting timing for this to pop up. Right after the clip aired on Conan. The Holiday Special is something long forgotten for many casual SW fans, but Conan was enough to perhaps spark some interest in the subject. My bet is this guy decided to take advantage of this. Probably he himself had never heard of it before until Conan and decided to do some research and realized that some star wars fans might just go nuts for something like this. Still, if I were him I would at least take a picture of a film canister and a reel a film rather than a low quality pic most likely ripped from the net. I can't wait to see what happens in the end. Ebay has some sorf of fraud protection to protect users from things like this don't they?

If this guy has Paypal and ebay states the fraud protection on the site, then yeah it should be protected. Also, whoever is the bidder on this, it may be a good idea to "snipe" it.

According the latest Q&A for the auction, the pics are supposed to be sent out tonight.

This should be interesting. I wonder what he'll come up with. He does have another idem for sell however. He actually managed to provide pictures of that one, so this means he does has access to a digital camera, and it lets us know why he took the user name he did, not that that matters.

====================================

Well, no pictures yet. Bids up to $78.00

And now he's got a new auction up for a "LUCKY BINGO BALL", complete with pictures. Still no pictures of the supposed 16mm film, of course. Will they go up tonight, or ever?

I'm not putting a bid in until I have some kind of tangible evidence of this thing. I can't believe these guys in Argentina/wherever who are already claiming to be willing to pay well over $300 for the shadiest auction item I've seen in a long time. Are they really that naive?

I'll be extremely irritated if it DOES turn out to be real and one of these other guys pays some ridiculous price for it and gets it, then sits on it and lets it gather dust in his "private collection", never answering any queries about it or getting in touch with anyone. That would be typical.

Might it be an idea to contact some of the other bidders, point them here, and ask what their intentions are if they win?

Not too long ago I sold my PSP on Ebay to fund an Xbox 360.

I was contacted by at least 3 people in Argentina, all of whom wanted to wire me cash but needed my home address first, and asked some very, very personal questions.

One guy really tried to pressure me into a quick sale, and for some reason a red flag went up in my head. Three people from Argentina, all of them with similar questions and offers?

They are to Ebay what Nigerian land owners are to email.

Well the guy has some pictures up of this. Can't really tell by the picture of the film frames what it is. But he does have a film canister and some film.

Hmm, it says right on the canister 97 minutes, but yet he had to do further research to tell us that it is a "tad over 90 minutes"

And then he's got the actual filmstrip layed out all over his carpet, looks like he's playing jump-rope with it. That's not the way I'd treat an extremely rare artifact from the 70's, especially one I was trying to sell for the highest price. Why didn't he hold some of that up to the light so we could verify it's the actual holiday special?

I, for one, wouldn't place a bid until I saw Bea Arthur's happy holiday face smiling back at me firsthand.

I have my bid in now that I've seen the photos, but dammit I wish I could see just 1 frame of the thing. He's certainly not making this easy.

I don't know if this guy is just clueless or being a tease. I'm feeling bad I even mentioned this thing now.

I've been collecting Star Wars items for over 12 years now. 99.9% of sellers with no feedback rating turn out to be dodgy.

Like my father says, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

Im no Holiday Special expert, though I do have a sneaking suspicion that it may be genuine, though I my doubts would be to the actual quality and condition of the item, the thing to do if it is won is to pay by paypal as you are protected and can file a claim with paypal if its not as described in the e-bay auction

I always thought somebody might try and do something sneaky with the holiday special. Like transfer the DVD onto an old betamax and ebay it as an original recording

Could this be something similar? A camera pointed at the TV recording of the DVD which nobody could prove was taken in the seventies?

Good luck on the bids mate, keep us informed!
I bought it, therefore i own it, right?

Ha ha ha... have you ever tried filing a refund claim with Paypal?

No I havent, I just thought it would be some protection for the bidder for this item.

There is nothing to even tell us that he might have pointed the camera at a TV even. I am sure if he would have done that then he wouldn't have seen any trouble in holding a slide up to the camera. I think there is almost no chance at all of this being real, and if it was I think the guy wouldn't have had any problem posting pictures to start with. I guess we will know in after some days when whoever wins it give the guy feedback. Or even a bit sooner and with more detail I suppose, if skot wins it.

I intend to ask the seller to allow me to return the item if I am not satisfied, if I do win. That still won't make me feel 100% okay, but at least it will help.

At the buttom of the page it does say that the limit to return it is 7 days, rather than saying no returns. He seems to respond with as little info as possible, not the most useful ebayer I have ever delt with. (I have been trying to ask him some things, but I have no intention to buy it, just to clearify that I am not bidding against you Skot.)

I have one from 2 years ago that paypal and ebay have totally blown off. And that was a case where the seller sold me a pirate DVD that they claimed as real.
