Incredible work, not one point of critique. It’s tastefully done and fits with the -and this is a bit scary to say- fifty years old footage.
Patiently awaiting your final ANH revisit! Thank you.
I absolutely LOVE that exit from hyperspace! Was not expecting to see that but certainly welcome it wholeheartedly. Very nicely done 👍
Everything else to me looks wonderful, too! And yes, I even dig Yavin IV’s new blue sky 😉 😄
So I donated £50 when this latest drive was announced and was planning on helping again next month, and while I still aim to do that… man, that hyperspace shot just got me amped that I had to send another £50 your way. Thank you as always for sharing and phenomenal work, Ady!

nothing short of incredible
Incredible work as always, Ady, but I think the buildings in the last shot look a little sharp compared to the surrounding trees. I think they need some softening to blend in fully.

I think its something to do with youtube’s compression that’s giving that effect. This screenshot is direct from the editing timeline:

Wow! It’s like it came right out of a Sequel Trilogy movie. And that’s a good thing! Though, don’t you think the engines show a bit too much detail when it comes out of hyperspace?
you see a lot more of the engine details in the Lucasfilm version (ROS)

Oh wow, yeah, much better. I should never have doubted you! 😉
Ady, great work as usual!
Not to be a Negative Nancy, but the exiting hyperspace scene just feels a bit out of place in ANH. I know there were new effects made for the Falcon flying in TESB, but to be honest those just felt more natural when slotted in. I could be wrong here, but I don’t believe we ever see a ship in or exiting hyperspace out of the tunnel in either the OT or the PT.
Maybe something similar to the Star Destroyer’s arrival in Rogue One would be better here?

That was done in the original version of ANH:R.

I defintly get the sentiment that it looks a tad too modern for ANH, for ESB, this could certainly pass, but not for ANH in my opinion. The camera motion is just too involved and dynamic. If Ady decides to leave it in, it won’t bother me at all.
Here’s a suggestion: maybe have the scene start with the new Millennium Falcon CG shot, but also have it exisitng hyperspace? As a nod to ANH:R SD?

That was done in the original version of ANH:R.
Sorry for the confusion, the work of it “in the tunnel” while Leia and Han talk that was done for the OG Revisited looks great, as do the effects when Han and Luke talk.
I was strictly talking about the reused/updated shot that appears to have been used from ROS when the Falcon is exiting hyperspace.

If possible… I’d suggest:
Flip the order of the first 2 shots:
EDIT: It is exactly this way in the original Revisited edit 😂

I kind wonder why he didn’t just recreate the same edits and VFX in HD, actually.
We do have an example of what hyperspace looks like with 70s/80s era effects

Yep, indeed we do see the tunnels in ANH, just before the Falcon reaches Alderaan (what’s left of it), and again in ROTJ, when the Falcon and the rest of the Rebel fleet arrive at the second Death Star.
Personally I think it fits and works perfectly right there — a beautiful “visual bridge” (if you will) connecting that cockpit scene and the flight toward Yavin 😃
I’m not speaking for Ady, so he can correct me if I’m wrong, but what I understand he’s trying to do is make the 3 OT films feel visually consistent with one another. Since ANH is the oldest of the three, that might mean it’ll be getting a little extra polish here and there.
Keep the new exit, looks incredible.
I feel like it wouldn’t stick out as much if you put more clips of the same VFX caliber throughout the movie. Such as this, for example (with permission of course):

Ady’s shot is amazing, no doubt, I just think that you have to approach viewing this edit as if it were a true SE re-release with modern effects in certain places.
I have no notes for the “exiting hyperspace” shot, it’s incredible. But I do have one suggestion for the next shot. At the tail of the “exit” shot, both the camera and the falcon (relative to camera) are rotating slightly counter-clockwise. I think the transition to the next shot of the falcon flying toward camera would feel smoother if that shot had a bit of rotation as well.
Small update:

Well in the PT we don’t see any ship in hyperspace as far as i can remember, but we do in the OT. And then we see the ships in the tunnel in the ST. So none of the trilogies gel together in that respect. I’ve done that “coming out of hyperspace” effect earlier on in the film when the stardestroyer reaches the Death Star. I want something visually different

You’re completely right .Mac . Now i’m not bothered about the revisited edits working in respect to the PT ( i just can’t watch them any more), but i do like the ST & Rogue One. So, even though nothing i do would really contradict the PT, i’m not worried about anything i do affecting them either.

The hyperspace exit is something i wanted to do when i first did ANH:H. But back then the resources just weren’t available all the way back then. the CG models just weren’t available and doing a shot like this at home would have been virtually impossible. So i just did it the only way i could back then.
One thing that can be jarring is that you are use to a scene playing out a certain way and something new can throw you out. But what i think is also contributing to this is the sound. In the original we get an abrupt loud engine sound, while in the new version it is softer and more gradual. Also this shot was not created using any reused footage from ROTS or any of the sequels. The falcon was rendered by Andreas , who is doing the CG work for me and the tunnel was taken from Ahsoka TV show, which was originally a static shot but i manipulated it to give the sweeping camera effect.

I’m not sure what you mean here. There are new modern effects throughout these edits. That’s the whole point of them. In fact none of the effect shots in that sequence haven’t been altered or replaced with modern effects, with the shot of the falcon right after the exit from hyperspace being a newly CG rendered shot.
Adywan, thanks for the response. Just my nitpicks but it still looks great! Excited to see what other surprises you have coming along.
Hopefully there are no other major hiccups on the rest of your plans for Revisited! Been following since 2011 😃

I know you aren’t doing the PT:R Ady but it would be cool if you did the more relatively simple Rogue One:R as in my book it’s not only the REAL episode 3 but with Andor being so good making it tie in with the films more will be a greater service to the saga. CGI Tarkin and Leia stick out like 1997 Jabba now the lack of Star Wars movie trimmings and some the presentation ideas. Location titles etc have been done by other editors but it would be cool to see your take. And it would be nice to see Rogue One elements in the rest of the saga.

That’s good to hear! What I’m saying is that other parts of the movie could see similar improvements, such as that shot of the Falcon leaving Tatooine. That way most of the ship travelling shots have the same CG-style look.

I don’t expect Ady to tackle this one based on how long the other three take and his own statements about wanting to keep work focused on the OT.
Having said that, I think that Rogue 1 is generally solid on its own, my biggest complaint with it is too much cross cutting between the three arenas at the end. I’ve tackled consolidating some of those scenes on my own and IMO the final act of the movie flows better with the jumping from one conflict to another dialed down a bit and allowing the scenes to breathe more.
I can’t see any of the updates as I was suspended and banned from Facebook in 2021. When I click the links it tells me to either log in or create an account.
