Less Star Wars = less Disney+ subscriptions.
It is that simple for me. I’d cancel the Disney+, and just binge it for one month, once a year. That’s if there was anything new and good on it worth watching.
Lots of film fans online saying they should release more of the different cuts of films they already have in their archives too. Product that doesn’t cost much to screen.
I can think of a certain trilogy of films that people would pay good money if made available.
In physical box set releases or through Disney+ subscriptions. For some fans, maybe both!
And less than a month later Disney+ increase their pricing:
In the US: Disney to raise price on ad-free Disney+ to $13.99 per month starting October 12
“Commercial-free Disney+ will cost $13.99 per month, a 27% increase, beginning Oct. 12. Disney+ with ads will remain $7.99 per month. Disney will also expand its ad-tier offering to select markets in Europe and in Canada beginning Nov. 1.”
“Last year (2022), Disney increased the cost of Disney+ by $3 per month.”
In 2019, when the Disney+ service started, it cost $6.99 a month, or $69.99 annually.
When Disney+ started in the UK & Europe it cost £5.99/€6.99 per month, or £59.99/€69.99 for a year (no adverts).
Now it is £7.99/€8.99 per month for “standard”, or £10.99/€11.99 per month for “premium”
Disney Plus in Australia and New Zealand, was originally priced at A$8.99 (US$6.09) per month or A$89.99 (US$61) per year, and NZ$9.99 (US$6.41) per month, or NZ$99.99 (US$64.1) per year, respectively.
Now it is A$13.99 in Aus, $14.99 in New Zealand per month, or A$139.99 in Aus, and $149.99 in New Zealand for the year
So less new Star Wars, no sign of unaltered theatrical cuts or any alternate versions of the Star Wars films, a minimum effort “Vintage Collection”, and generic empty formulaic “Disney+ Galleries” for some newer series, and even more price increases. Still treating the fans with contempt overall. I’m out. I’ll binge Andor season 2 when it arrives, and maybe Visions season 3, Skeleton Crew, or Acolyte in a single month next year or whenever. But that will be it for me.
I do hope we get more physical releases like the recently announced Mandalorian seasons 1 & 2 on 4K UHD and blu ray
