One thing we definitely need to do that’s nagged me ever since Restructured is that we are clearly recycling reaction shots of the pilots from later on in the firing sequence. We really just need to mirror the two reaction shots to make them less similar as done in the following example I made - https://youtu.be/gzdKcd_XxnA?si=rcfaDCOoxcvnEc3j
I’d also swap the reaction shot order to make it even less apparent. So Poe first and then the other dude.

I don’t think there needs to be a ton of new lines setting up characters/plot points in TLJ. This might be a better convo for the General edit ideas thread instead of here, but I personally think the Max union dispute business, for example, should be cut from TLJ, and make it so she is just fighting the First Order on a different front. She goes on and on about how they needed to fight the First Order in TFA, but then she just settling a union dispute in the next movie? I think it makes a lot more sense if she is just busy fighting the First Order somewhere else. It seems like a part of the reason no one is helping the Resistance is because their allies have either surrendered or are already busy repelling the First Order blitzkrieg on other fronts. So I think the less we set up certain things the more modular this edit can be with other edits. It just depends.
I really like the idea of changing Maz’ dialogue to imply it relates to another front. I’m not thinking this through fully here (it’s early), but are there any other moments in the trilogy that this could be used to enhance? I’m thinking things like Jannah’s appearance in movie 3, the uprisings encouraged by Finn/Luke/Lando, or similar?

Here’s something I’ve been thinking about for a little while-- I love what you’ve done with reconstructing the cut dice sequence, but I missed the short, low-key quote of the main “Star Wars” theme that I thought capped off that moment perfectly.
I was trying to come up with a way to keep the best of both worlds with the score there, and I landed on a snippet of “Torn Apart” that I think strikes the right tone for the scene, and transitions naturally into that melody at the end. This also pairs nicely with the later scene of Kylo in the Falcon-- the fuller version played there starts with the same warmer tone but then develops into darker territory, reinforcing their connection and their painful separation. Together with the bridge scene, I think it could work as a sort of “Han and Son” motif.

I love this. The sequels aren’t John William’s best Star Wars scores but this melody is actually really good.

In a longstanding tradition I’ve just started this year I’ve decided to watch each ST films across Christmas Eve, Day, and Boxing Day (due to having seen the other 6 films millions of times since 1999).
For TFA I’ve not seen the original since getting the DVD or Starlight since the first draft. I decided to ignore the change list until after watching it which was definitely the right choice.
Starlight doesn’t feel like a fanedit at all, there were no points of having to ‘fill the plotholes in yourself’ that often occur with fanedits where material is missing that would be needed for the changes. Mentions of Illum, Starkiller Base being a oneshot weapon to destroy the Republics capital, the clear focus on the Resistance not being the Republic, everything that makes the film not feel so much like a soulless remake of ANH (we had that already, it was RotJ).
Oh, and Chewy not hesitating and immediately blasting Ren followed by activating the detonators whilst he’s still there was fantastic. I wish the ST had lent into him as a character more.
The best part however, is the added darkness to Rey in a way that allows for Starlight to fit into either a ‘Palpatine’ or ‘nobody’ ST. It does follow that somebody who raised themselves on the edges of society would turn to the ‘easier and more seductive’ side of the force and the Sith whispers that follow after she fails the mind trick (twice!) followed by the Sith eyes before cutting a slice out of Ren feel really natural and flow nicely into TLJ (you didn’t even hesitate, you went straight for the Dark).
I know you’re constantly working on adding more and more to your edits (looking through the radical ST ideas thread), but whether those come to fruition or not, you have a complete film here.
