I’m not him, but for me, it’s Caddyshack. That was my dad’s favorite movie as a teenager, and he always talked about how he wanted to show it to me when I was old enough. But we ended up watching it, and it was just so bland. I barely even remember a single thing about it, I just remember that literally none of the jokes landed at all. Even my dad was wondering why the hell he ever liked that movie.
I do disagree with you on 80s music sucking though, although I guess it’s mainly because I have a much higher level of cheese tolerance than most people. Those songs where a guy with absurd hair screams about believing in yourself while another guy with absurd hair shreds on a guitar are ridiculous, but damn they’re fun. It’s basically the shonen anime spirit transferred into musical form.

An important reminder that popular doesn’t always mean great. I felt the exact same way about Monty Python & The Holy Grail, except for the opening credits, which were heart-stoppingly hilarious. I don’t know why it was that specific part of the movie and no other part, but man, if only the rest of the movie was as funny to me as the opening credits.

I didn’t say '80s music sucked, per se, I meant that it began to start showing signs (subtle at first) of the suckiness that was to befall popular music (and culture) in later decades. I guess my wording made it sound like I said it flatout sucked.

The Nintendo 64 is an overrated console that was ruined by the decision to use cartridges rather than CDs. This crippled the system (which would be more powerful than PS1 if it used CDs), and limited its third-party support.

My sister bought an N64 over a year ago, allowing me to play some of those games again for the first times in years. And yeah, I agree, it’s not as good a system as I remembered it being. The two Zelda games are probably among the only N64 games that actually look good.

I feel you, man. Especially as a fan of old-style action movies with strong visuals and high-quality scriptwriting, it feels like the kind of movies I want to see are getting rarer and rarer. It’s either bland, regurgitated superhero BS, or slow-burn arthouse stuff that I’d rather watch at home. I do support the few movies that are along the lines of what I want to see (like Everything Everywhere or The Batman), but I have no desire to pay 20 bucks to see 98% of the stuff in theaters now.

Granted, I don’t think modern movies suck per se, I just don’t like them. Just like modern music. That’s something the “wrong generation” crowd don’t get.
I don’t like modern music, but people who like modern pop music have the right to enjoy what they like, and I do too.

I don’t begrudge people who enjoy the Marvel movies and shows, but for me it has become so unwieldy and a chore to even follow along what the hell is going on i’d rather watch a standalone movie. I like to have 2 hours of entertainment not do a homework assignment. And to me except for a few of em maybe they are just big commercials for the next movie, far too many of them seem the same and regurgitated. I know not an unpopular opinion, an unpopular opinion would be that these schlocky mass produced assembly line corporate product are actually good films.
I’m also sick of nostalgia culture and movie and tv series which can’t do anything except try and recapture or remake the past, or imagined past in some way.
I don’t really like the Beach Boys all that much.

I tried watching the original Top Gun once, but only because I was on an international flight and I had nothing better to do. Even then, it sucked. I don’t even know if I got halfway though before turning it off, it was so intensely forgettable.
The sequel is genuinely great though, and I would highly recommend it. Even if you have never seen the original movie, it’s still a great standalone story.

The first Top Gun is nothing but a two-hour long recruitment video.
I still maintain that the best Tom Cruise performance ever is his Lestat in Interview with a Vampire, as it’s the only time he disappears into the character. Heck, he elevates that movie into “pretty decent” territory.
