Not bad work. I really like it! Though there is one tiny question I have about R2’s light. Shouldn’t it turn from red to blue through a wipe, and not a cross dissolve? There should also be a tiny bit of purple as the colors change.

Looks Great!
Erasing that person crouched behind the droid looks seamless.

The blue Tatooine sky as it should be! Lovely jubbly adywan.

(still loving your ‘bush vegetation’ fix during Luke’s exchange with Beru too)

This looks lovely! I loved Adywan’s previous version of Star Wars Revisited and Empire Revisited. This new clip looks great, I’m no expert though, no golden eyes here 😃

Can’t wait to watch Star Wars Revisited again.

Thank you Adywan for all your amazing work! 😃

Ady, I’m guessing you probably have a thousand people asking, but I’ll ask a little differently.

Instead of an ETA (“done when it’s done”), how’s the progress going on ANH:HD and ROTJ:R?

Does it appear the major roadblocks are gone? Is progess being made the way you want? How soon do you think ANH:HD has left before all of the focus goes on ROTJ:R?

The Skywalker Saga:

Comparing the 2 sources there is more detail in the shadows particularly on the over shoulder shots of Owen looking towards 3p0 with the Sandcrawler in the background, whilst not the focus of the shot I can clearly see a bit more in the shadows surrounding the tank traps. not a big deal at all.

once we start getting to the iglu like homestead I noticed the old Blu ray has a pink blob / haze for which made it one of the worst shots to color correct in my opinion been there since forever really… looks like the 2020 version did something about that however you have added blue highlight to the top of the dome in something you did.

I prefer the saturation of the 2020 version but with the color change you have done.

It looks a little oversaturated for my preference; the sky in particular is bright blue which doesn’t seem right for a desolate desert planet. There’s also a sense that everything is “perfectly” colored at all times from shot to shot and scene to scene regardless of lighting conditions, which looks a little bit artificial to me.

That said, if that’s the look you’re going for, it looks very consistent. You did an excellent job blending the two sources and matching the colors.

It all looks great in that clip, Ady! Had a big smile noticing R2 is getting some extra “happy feet” in (as well as it being a continuity fix). Always looking forward to seeing more and hoping everything is proceeding as you have foreseen so far!

And just thinking aloud here: Not sure if you’ll showcase some beforehand or keep them a surprise until the release, either way, very intrigued to see what you might have up your sleeve for any drastic changes/editing.

Wishlist Of Ideas/Suggestions For Improving ROTJ

I’ve been looking at stuff with this film recently again and I very much want to start my own edit of Star Wars again however I want to use a few of your shots from the old version if you are ok with that?

The Pay off here is in credible information.

So in the battle of yavin the porkins “I have a problem here” is actually pertaining to the shots that come prior… “Watch out there is a lot of fire coming frim the right side of that deflection tower”

The x-wing pulling away from the surface goes here up until the flash frame. Porkins now says “I have a problem here” then we cut from the end of the flash frame to the x - wing pulling up and away. This matches the angle of the cockpit shots for porkins too.

On the flipside of this the sequence where we hear gold leader say “Watch out there’s a lot of fire coming from the right side of that deflection tower” before this should actually be the death star gunner shot and the lasers in the sky albeit with a deflection tower composited in with those lasers in the sky.

This is 100% legit pertaining to the theatrical soundmix and what would match.

The special edition accomodated this change in the sound mix to make the moved scenes work however the moved scenes do not work because Luke confirms he is going after the gunner and biggs is going after the deflection tower. Placing the gunner scene and Luke saying " I’m on it" makes sense that falls into place. As far as porkins demise is concirned it’s much better but it feels a bit off but also does not. It could be that the shot was not meant to be splced in 2 at the flash frame… i.e the continuous shot is presented as is then "I have a problem here then biggs says “pull up!”

This is the theatrical soundmix telling a story of what was supposed to be…

The nect point I want to make to you is about Vader tracking down Obiwan on the deathstar cortidors… Now I don’t know about this at all but after having watched it a few times it struck me on a macro level that Vader honing down on Obiwan was changed…

The point of realisation was the closing doors wipe shot betwwen “you came in that theng? You’re braver than I thought” and the storm trooper chase… Also spltting the the tractor beam deactivation in two.

Without experimenting I can not know how it should be but I am seeing a clanger and for good reason. It’s definitely scenes in the wrong order. Or very slihtly wrong order. It’s not bad but I know can be better… I have yet to look at this but my gut tells me it was made a mess in editing. It makes luttle sense. Most things are micro level but the dearh star hunt by Vader looking for Obiwan goes macro level and I am starting to believe it actually can be far better.

I think I know why he probably thought adywan gets so many messages that he didn’t see it.

And adding to this thread bothers thousands of people and won’t make Adywan answer him any faster.

Love the new Artoo insert to fix the continuity error. It’s strange how the little fixes (like adding the blue light change) makes it feel new while fitting in seamlessly. The colours really do pop too. No pink or beige sky.

Oh Ady, the clip is beautiful.

Sorry I haven’t been around that much on here, but hope you are keeping well.

Ok heres some info regarding scene orders in the death star and I said it was “Vader hunting down obiwan”

So what I did I removed the cut away in between the lift doors when Han and Luke are taking Chewie to the cellblock. So that is now one continuous sequence.

The deactivation of the shield generator is now one continous sequence with the scene outside the garbage masher coming afterwards.

Then I put the scene of Obiwan in the hallway and Vader wandering around.

Then everything else continue as normal.

Because we see a shot of Obiwan going past where darth Vader was it feels more like Obiwan understands the dangers the rest of the group are in and he is desperately hunting down Vader to stop him before he get’s to then.

So from what I initially percieved it was meant to be “Vader hunting down Obiwan”. It actually in this rearrangement came off more complex and rousing in another way.

I am not suggesting that this is what you should do but it was an interesting alternative and something nobody has ever as far as I am aware thought about making these scenes unbroken with the Vader and Obiwan scenes coming later.

It was a simple edit and it works. It’s different and i think it is a marginal improvement.

It’s difficult to visualise without some sort of pointer. But it sounds intriguing. I would love to see a rough cut of these ideas.
