THEORY:

Jar-Jar got a surprising cameo in the Recap section of Episode I, and Ewan McGregor has said in press conferences for Kenobi Show about forty times how much he loved working with Ahmed Best and Liam Neeson in Episode I.

My theory is that Ahmed Best will return in Kenobi to assist Obi-Wan on his quest, and also to redeem the character.

Spoilers:

So Ben is persuaded to go and look for leia, knowing the inquisitors would be after him. So, what does he do? Does he wear the same outfit that he is wearing on Tatooine? No, he decides the best way to not stand out is to dress like a bloody jedi. Really?

Response:

He’s not dressed like a Jedi though. He’s not wearing his Jedi tunic and while yes he’s wearing a brown hooded robe we know that’s not unusual in Star Wars. Tons of people all across Mos Eisley in SW77 wear them, even the multi-eyed used landspeeder salesman. They’re an easy way to blend into a crowd and hide your face.

Spoilers:

The first part of EP 2 is nothing more than fluff. he wasn’t interested in the jedi before yet he is suddenly excited about another jedi being on this planet? Turns out out be a con man. We see this guy happily con a woman and her child out of money. but later he just helps obi-wan?

Response:

That first Jedi approached him not far from the Lars homestead. His entire mission is to keep Luke safe and to do that no one can know about him. That Jedi could have had the Inquisitors right on his tail which would have been an eminent threat to Luke. Now that he’s off planet and safely away from Luke getting the help of another Jedi to help find and rescue Leia would be a huge boon.

As for the fake Jedi. He still helps that woman escape he just did it under the guise of a Jedi. It’s theatrics, it’s easier for people to trust that a Jedi would help them than just some random man. And his final conversation with Obi-wan heavily suggests he’s a Rebel sympathizer and has sent Obi-Wan to meet a Rebel contact.

adywan said:

She tells him that anakin is still alive. But, wait a minute… How does she know that obi-wan thinks anakin is dead? That whole scene just seemed like it was rushed in there just so we could get the anakin reveal in the end, with the super wide head. Obi-Wan’s realisation that Anakin is still alive could have been handled so much better, but they screwed it, just for the Duff Duff moment ending ( UK peeps will probably get the eastenders reference here)

Response:

She’s employing the same tactics that Vader used on Luke in the Emperor’s throne room. Working him up and then reading his thoughts/emotions while his control is compromised.

I liked it first two episodes so far.
Though it felt out of place that Reva knew that Darth Vader was Anakin Skywalker.

Just finished the first two Kenobi episodes.

Episode 1 review:

Really good! Not perfect, but good.

Episode 2 review:

Welp, rebels isn’t canon anymore lol. But aside from that it was a great episode! I now see why they released these back to back. While part of me still wishes this was in theaters, the pacing of it is starting to make me more and more happy that this is a show instead.

I’m curious, do you really think that character is dead? I thought it was surprising but I have no doubt they’re gonna get put in a bacta tank and healed up.

Are we even sure it’s the same character? “Grand Inquisitor” is just a title after all

I enjoyed both of these episodes. Moses Ingram is awesome in this role, she’s already becoming one of my favorite characters.

Also, i really really doubt they’re just gonna de-canonize Rebels.

Probably character background/development spoilers. There were other lines of dialog that to me indicate she is more than she seems.

Haven’t they said the Ashoka show will continue the story threads from Rebels? She is looking for Thrawn.

Such a weak synopsis. Not hyped at all by making a series around something which could have stayed as a background world building.

Haven’t seen yet the Ben show. I might come back when done or wait to have seen the écrire series.

So long 🙌

I found the two episodes underwhelming. Some good parts, the actress playing Leia was great, as was Ewan, Smits and Edgerton. Though Ewan’s accent was ‘off’ at times, and seemed to be just a posh English accent at times instead of channeling Guinness’ distinctive Obi-Wan.

The production values looked poor overall, and the cinematography was not great which is surprising as much of the modern Star Wars has had good cinematography, even if fails in other departments elsewhere. I agree a lot with what adywan wrote in his post.

As others have said online, the plot for the series is solid, but the execution of it is not as good. We are only two episodes in, so maybe it will improve. I am looking forward to the next episode, but I haven’t really enjoyed these two episodes.

The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.

Just finished watching the first two episodes. My take: It’s fun. Leia is wonderful, and Obi-wan is great as always. Sure, I could complain about a few aspects of the Inquisitors such as their accessories, makeup, costuming, design, direction, choreography, backstory, acting, purpose, and existence, but they are meaningless noise obscuring the strong signal which is measured, thoughtful character interactions, and I’m here for it.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

This is my take as well. Of course you can nitpick it to death but I think it nails the most important elements, and I’m excited to be along for the ride.

Honestly same. A lot of the complaints I’ve been seeing have been pretty surface level imo.

But hey who knows, we’re only two episodes in. Could be the best or the worst thing ever, hard to judge for sure on what’s basically the first act.

I do think the color grading could use a little work though.

Just started the second episode and stopped for a moment. Temuera Morrison cameo? That’s a very distinctive voice. Noticed it before they even showed his face.

Alright, having finally seen the first 2 episodes, here are my thoughts:

Overall, the best way I can describe the show is “dumb fun”. I know that’s not a very flattering way to describe a show about one of the most tragic characters in the entire franchise, and I wish they focused more on introspection and character drama, but I’m not too bothered by it. It feels like an intentional continuation of the space opera cheese in the prequels, and for people who aren’t too bothered by that style it works fairly well.

By far the best part is the title character: Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan. He is an absolutely stellar actor, and he infuses this mostly corny series with some much-needed pathos. Unfortunately, that just means the subpar performances of the other characters stand out even more. This especially applies to the Inquisitors, who chew the scenery so much that they tend to be more hilarious than threatening (which isn’t helped by their mediocre costume design).

One of my biggest problems with the series is a character no one else seems to have a problem with: Leia. She’s way too snarky for a 10 year old who looks like a 5 year old, and the scenes where she runs away from people are absolutely ludicrous. Are we really supposed to believe that a 3 foot tall girl can consistently outrun legions of trained warriors?

But still, despite all the problems I have, I can’t bring myself to hate this show, because it’s just so fun. I was smiling like an idiot the entire way through. If they keep up this level of pure cheesy entertainment for the next 4 episodes, I’ll be a happy camper.

I know you haven’t seen the prequels, so I’m gonna clue you in: that’s not a cameo, it’s just his character. Boba Fett is part of a legion of clone soldiers that were basically the first generation of stormtroopers, created using the DNA of a bounty hunter called Jango Fett. Jango is played by Temuera Morrison, so as a result all of his clones (including Boba retroactively) are played by Morrison as well. The beggar in that shot is part of that legion of clones, out of a job after the Empire switched to civilian conscripts.

That reminds me, Death Trooper Cody is on my wish list of character fates.

Anchorhead, I have to say I am impressed how you’ve managed to avoid prequel lore all of these years as a Star Wars fan. I love your perspective on all of this, haha.

Ditto, Anchorhead. You’re an interesting case.

I enjoyed the first two episodes, though without feeling “excited” per se at any point. If the series is going to excel it’s gotta earn it.

It’s always great to see Ewan. As with most of SW TV, it often feels like a theme park attraction. The inquisitors were kinda real dumb, and it seems like it would’ve been more effective so far to just have one of them involved. Just a flunkie trying to curry favor with Vader. It was great seeing Owen, and I sure hope they give Beru some dialogue at some point.

Seems like Ben juuuust comes in on this side of owning a droid.
“I’ve never owned an entire droid before, Luke. Only parts of astromech heads.”

My stance on revising fan edits.

Oh. My bad. Makes much more sense then. Thank you, sir.
