The Death Star plans during the briefing will be how they appeared in the SD version of ANH:R. But they will also tie into the originals as seen in Rogue One. You’ll just have to wait and see …

This has me excited. Can’t wait to see 😃

The Skywalker Saga:
I · II · III · IV · V · VI · VII · VIII · IX
This is the way.

I forgot to mention about this when talking about the changes between the SD version and the new HD version. The Special Edition footage will be removed. I wanted to do this originally when i was working on the SD version, but couldn’t pull off what i wanted to do. Even though in one of the behind the scenes docs ( i think it was the dewback one) that they claim to have found the original sandtrooper costumes used in ANH, they lied. What we see on screen in the Special edition sequence are ROTJ stormtroopers with sandtrooper bits added. The helmets are slightly squashed, same as the ROTJ ones and they have the solid black mouth. What you’ll see in the HD version will a slightly extended version of the original 1977 scene using accurate sandtroopers. The CG dewbacks really don’t hold up too well either, especially their riders.

There could simply be different manufacturers, in-universe.

I still don’t know if the audio is planned to be lossless or not.

Okay, cus I might be dumb could anyone clarify. Does Adywan mean there will be no significant changes (other than fixes) to the Trench run (from the Blu Ray version) or will there still be New additonal spacecraft and battle stuff in the back ground of existing shots (with the orginal pacing intact)?

Also totally get why people loved the whole extened Battle but the orginal pacing was much better and 100% agree with you Ady, you are as always awesome.

Ady means the Battle of Yavin will be enhanced much like the Battle of Hoth - just enhancements to shots, backgrounds, fixes, etc. - without harming the film’s original pace. No new 30 second segments.

Whelp, I guess I’m never unseeing that!

Anyway, I’m glad things are coming along well and I’m pleased that the overall pace of the movie is more akin to the OOT. Hal’s method of shortening the “Look sir, droids!” scene has long been a favorite change of mine and I’m glad you’re doing something similar (along with fewer CGI dewbacks/riders - even the classic Battlefront games had better character models for stormtroopers).

The Topaz AI stuff sounds like an excellent method to ameliorate the grain issues present in the HD and 4K masters of the movies, while also bringing the HD branch up to snuff in 1080p.

I wouldn’t mind if at least a few creatures or droids were kept in Mos Eisley sequence. We don’t want it to be too underpopulated, after all.

The way I’ve always preferred the “Look sir, droids!” scene is the way it was shown in the Theatrical version, but with only one CGI dewback in the background.

But if they don’t hold up enough to be used for the HD version then so be it.

He is going keep the CG dewbacks parked outside the Cantina, from what I remember.

He isn’t. If you look back at the comparisons he isn’t.

Really? I think I remember him saying he was going to fix that compositing error where the original Dewback’s snout could be seen behind the CG one.

yes. I won’t be using the SE version of the Hutt. Originally i was going to create a new model but i’m waiting to see if a better version appears in the Kenobi show before i decide what route to take.

Here’s a set photo that shows the hut that’s being used for the series:

Notice it has the dome on the roof from the SE version.

Why is it that many of the changes were so poor with continuity between the old and the new stuff? Having the wrong Stormtrooper helmets during the “Look sir, droids!” scene, having new open windows in Cloud City in some shots, but not in others, even if they’re supposed to be the same ones, having Jabba’s palace door apparently be bigger on the outside than it is on the inside, etc.

Because the Special Editions were done after-hours between projects with no guiding hand other than Lucas himself who only seemed to care about the shot being “fixed” at the moment and not the shots around them. Remember that Lucas only wanted to see if they could do something he wanted to do in the prequels, and if they could he just moved on. Then there’s things like the SE Boba Fett’s both having wrong pieces of armor because BOTH scenes were “that sounds cool, let’s shoot that this afternoon” and they were done years apart (December 1994 for ANH and July 1996 for RotJ)

Adywan, since you’re removing the two SE shots in the “look sir, droids!” scene partially because they use the ROTJ helmets, does that mean you’re going to replace the SE shot of the Stormtroopers facing Han in the hangar bay? I really hope you don’t. The fact that Han is stopping dead in his tracks yelling, because he sees an entire room of hundreds of Stormtroopers facing him, rather than having it just be a normal-looking room with only a few troopers, works much better because I think that makes the scene play out a little funnier and much more effectively.

I mean, in the original version it’s a dead end, which is extremely funny.

Which do you prefer, and why?

Are the subtitles going to be hardcoded, like on the 2020 Blu-Rays?

What don’t you like about the SE hut? I don’t see anything wrong with it.
