From a visual standpoint, what bothers me the most is the muted colour palette and the underexposed look. This is in contrast with the comic book which is full of vibrant colours.

Then again, Chloe Zhao used the same bland look for Nomadland.

Well, the MCU seems to have just embarked on a new saga.

I missed it, but someone on reddit just pointed out, in the most recent episode of Hawkeye, when he goes to the LARPer’s apartment to get his arrows, they are listening to “Bells, Bells, Bells” from the Star Wars Christmas Album featuring Anthony Daniels as C-3PO.

Anyone else going to see Multiverse of Madness tonight or this weekend?

This is a pretty great time to be an MCU fan with a great first season of Moon Knight and now MoM.

Going Monday, I hear it’s scarier and more of a recognisably Sam Raimi film than people expected, which is great to hear. I’m looking forward to it.

Going to Multiverse tonight. Looking forward to seeing Wanda. Looks like she has a much bigger role than I originally thought. Three episodes into Moon Knight. Digging it. I’ll stay out of this topic for a bit so I avoid any spoilers.

I’m going to Multiverse this afternoon and same about Wanda, looks like she’s hijacked Doctor Strange’s movie and is the most exciting part of it! Moon Knight was a lot of fun and although a darker tone and longer season length might have suited it, I enjoyed what we got very much.

Am I the only one that thought NWH was the worst of the MCU? Not only did it waste any chances of May and Flash being improved, but also wasted Dafoe, Andrew, and Ifans along with any potential of seeing MCU versions of Goblin and Lizard. Not to mention adapt one of the worst Spidey comics just so that MCU Peter can spend the next trilogy wallowing in misery porn like the comics nowadays…

On the flip side, Shang-Chi and Ms Marvel are the peak of the MCU.

Kevin Feige is the man. I love the MCU but it’s seriously becoming over crowded. Too much stuff coming out at once. It was better when there was a time when we could wait for the next project to look forward to. Instead of shoving stuff in our faces constantly

Agreed, but mostly because I’m a busy adult now. There was a time when I would have loved this pace. Now it’s just hard to keep up.

I agree if you fall behind it would be a bit of a challenge to catch up but it’s not hard to keep pace with it.

Currently they’re paced at about three movies a year. Three movies across 12 months.

The series are a little more demanding but again there are only about three every year and they’re released one episode at time. With seasons that only range from six to nine episodes. Half of the series are only 30 minutes (approximate) each. I’d be genuinely concerned for anyone that couldn’t spare half an hour once a week.

Half an hour, assuming it’s the only shows you’re trying to keep up with. Most people have several shows on the go. For me, the choice becomes one between Marvel and everything else (though usually I can keep up with both Star Wars and Marvel, if that’s all I watch).

Yeah, that’s the big issue with Marvel’s constant deluge of content for me. When it was just 2 or 3 movies a year, doing a big binge to catch up with the latest installment was pretty easy. But now, with them releasing 4 movies and 4 streaming miniseries every single year, it’s pretty much become a choice between “binge the latest Marvel” or “watch something actually good”. I stopped watching Marvel stuff after the Infinity Saga was over, but now it’s almost impossible to catch up.

My preferred Skywalker Saga experience:

Saw Wakanda Forever a few days ago. Definitely better than the first one and one of the best of the phase.

If you thought Doctor Strange and Thor were lame and wimpy-story wise, you’ll be happy here. Story is much better (even if the Ross subplot felt unnecessary, no one cares about Seinfeld lady Feige).

Namor was incredible and easily was the best part. Definitely felt like an arrogant sona of beetch like the comics.

I will say it got a bit choppy near the end like they had to fit all these scenes in but didn’t have time for it.

Solid 9/10

As a huge fan of the MCU, I’ll admit to having MCU Fatigue this year. For me, part of it is the quality drop-off (story, not presentation) as well as the amount of content. As some have pointed out, more is usually better if you’re a fan, but I have little interest in some of the content. Below is Phase 4 for 2021 & 2022. Easy to see where some people with busier schedules might find it daunting. I can always squeeze in an hour somewhere to watch a show I like, but on several of these I either bailed or didn’t bother. Bolded the ones I’ve seen and maybe a thought or two.

WandaVision (2021). Outstanding. I still go back for an episode every now and again.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021). Didn’t move me one way or the other.

Loki season 1 (2021). Outstanding. I still go back for an episode every now and again.

Black Widow (2021). Liked it, watched it twice.

What If…? season 1 (2021). Bailed after three episodes. Didn’t find it interesting.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021). One & done. Didn’t find it interesting.

Eternals (2021). Not interested.

Hawkeye (2021). Loved it, watched it four times, only in December so it stays as Christmas

Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). Two & done. Might watch again one day.

Moon Knight (2022). Zero interest in the character, but the performance of Oscar Isaac is outstanding.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022). One & done. Didn’t find it interesting when Wanda wasn’t on screen.

Ms. Marvel (2022). Not interested.

Thor: Love and Thunder (2022). Italics because I bailed after about 15 minutes. Seemed stupid and uninteresting.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022). Bailed after 4 episodes. Terrible CGI and a ridiculous story. Loved the end title artwork.

Werewolf by Night (2022). Watched it four times already, possibly my favorite thing to come out of Marvel Studios.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022). Will wait for Disney+

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (2022). No interest, but will probably give it a look.
