If Qui-Gon shows up, I hope he starts breaking a few arms Taken style.

Lol, as a force ghost? Ooookay

The question is does he have the same powers as Luke and Yoda did as force ghosts, and if so, does he save Kenobi from certain death. Force ghosts are powerful don’t forget that.

Hah, trying to forget honestly.

I’m not sure if I like force ghosts being able to interact in the physical world at all. They COULD potentially wield lightsabers etc but it is clear they can only appear in moments of need as the Force wills (as Ben says to Luke before he rushes off to confront Vader, “I cannot interfere”) so maybe it’s no problem.

I suppose Qui-gon appearing to confront Vader and let Obi-wan escape would be a nice moment in many respects but it would all depend on execution.

« I know who you are. I know what you want. You are looking for vengeance but I can tell you this is not the way. I do have a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long Jedi career. Skills that make me a nightmare for Sith people like you. If you let my former padawan go now that’ll be the end of it, Anakin. I Will not look for you anymore, I will not pursue you, but if you don’t, I will look for you, I will find you and I will kill you. »

In terms of the anticipated Rematch between Ben & Vader, i think it won’t be a physical fight, but more so a telepathic force vision lightsaber fight. Why? A battle fought within their minds opens up the visual opportunity to let them fight within multiple arenas: Tatooine, Mustafar, Naboo Generator room, etc. - all visually interconnected. Going this route, it would retain their actual reunion on the first death star.

Rogue One is redundant. Just play the first mission of DARK FORCES.

Not a bad idea at all. Besides it could be used as an explanation to exhaust them to the old dude state they are in 10 years later.

(Not that I want that to be explained : again the 20 years gap was enough to sell it)

Force Ghosts are another idea that I used to like but were ruined by terrible ideas/writing (Yoda in TLJ).

Would have rather just had Obi-wan continue as a disembodied voice like in SW77.

Honestly, Star Wars is such a corporate product now. I am very close to requesting the mods ban my account here.

I love that we’re getting new Star Wars content, I might not like 1/3 of what they are doing, but I’m willing to let some things slide, because the 10 year old in me is having fun watching all of these shows.

They are not perfect by any means, they should work on the scripts a little more before shooting begins. I also wish there was a John Williams collaboration with him writing some of the music with the other composers, so it has that Star Wars feel more.

These shows remind me of kid in a toy box in 1978-83, just making things up as you go and building all these new worlds for everyone to see. I might not like some of it, but I’ll occasionally smile and get excited here and there.

I can’t wait to see the toy played with the most, Darth Vader and his return in Obi-wan Kenobi. Some of you are not going to like him, because he’s smaller than normal, but I see it this way, after his last duel with Kenobi he upgrades himself and makes himself bigger.

Don’t set your expectations so high, you’ll be disappointed every time. Just sit back and have fun with it.

Funnily enough, that’s exactly what’s happening with this show. They’re taking the Solo approach, where Williams writes the main theme and the composer writes a score that incorporates that main theme.

Overall, I agree with you. These recent shows have been a bit rough around the edges (especially Boba Fett), but it doesn’t feel like a soulless MCU-style product by any means. Favreau, Filoni, and the other creatives clearly have a massive appreciation for the franchise, and it shows. Even if these shows aren’t spectacular, as long as they continue to capture the OT’s childlike sense of adventure I’ll still enjoy them.

I watched the 2nd trailer again and it isn’t half bad. Wish it had a more lived in universe look though and everything wasn’t so flat and shiny. Miss the film grain of the original 77 film. The thing i really do hate though is the lightsaber style its prequely, Flashy. and the way they throw them around one handed like they are glowsticks when these things can cut everything but Beskar. Its ridiculous. Wish they go back to the OT lightsaber style of holding it like a broadsword with two hands.

Saw the 2nd trailer. Still doesn’t do anything for me.

Same.

I agree with CarboniteSolo, they need to polish the scripts much more. We had so missed opportunities in prequels, sequels and more recently in BOBF. Another said that this show would have been better as a movie, and I almost agree with it by just seeing the cinematography of the trailers.

Just hoping for the writing to be not disappointing, for real. This was the biggest flaw in Star Wars in many years for me, more than the “superficial” look of the prequels, for example.

Have to agree with some others that I’m not as excited about the show as I thought I would be after seeing the trailers. The show has a great crew, so I’m sure it will be a solid production, but it seems to be going in a direction that I wasn’t expecting. I also am personally not really impressed with the look of the show so far.

I think Star Wars has always ridden this line between sci-fi pulp action and space opera mythology, and the newer streaming projects lean more towards the former. I’m sure I’ll still watch it and have fun with it as a fan, but I have a feeling I’ll be disappointed if I set my expectations too high.

I think as with Boba Fett and Solo expectations are going to be higher vs a wholly new thing because fans have enough of a reference point to see the narrative potential with these legacy characters, its relationship as a continuation invites comparison. Returns may always diminish but I fear Kenobi might be destined for mediocrity for the same reason it could have been great, it’s such a big deal and Disney is so afraid of fumbling they’ll never be willing to rock the boat enough to let something interesting happen, it’s a crowd pleasing deadlock, hope I’m proven wrong and Star Wars can still surprise.

The Obi-wan press tour has started!

In this clip Ewan talks about how making the prequels was difficult because of all the green/blue screen, and how much backlash they received, but it’s been great for him and Hayden to see the generation who grew up with those movies express such love for them.

Also, Ewan, Hayden and Moses will be on BBC One on the One show tomorrow answering fan questions.

I’m really excited for this, I know it won’t be perfect, but Star Wars never has been. It’s always been cheesy space pulp, and that’s what I expect.

Hmm. Prior to Kenobi, I was under the impression that all the Inquisitors were killed by either Vader, Cal Kestis, Ahsoka, Maul, or Kanan. I’m not remembering if Reva was in the comic that chronologically introduces the inquisitors into new canon or not.

Ewan McGregor’s first movie job after ROTS was The Island, and I vividly recall him saying in interviews that at first he was reluctant because he was exhausted from having to act in front of blue/green screens and expected much the same thing with an effects-heavy movie, but Michael Bay reassured him that that wouldn’t be the case, and McGregor admitted it was a liberating to work on real sets and locations and having real things to react to instead of having to imagine stuff that wasn’t there.

She wasn’t, she’s completely new.

Hayden: “We’re more in line with the prequels than we are with how the fights are in the original trilogy. These characters have aged, but not that much yet."

I was hoping for more of the old style, original trilogy style of lightsaber fighting. Where there is more emotion and weight to the fights. More than the flash and needless swirling of the Prequel lightsaber fights.

Or at the very least somewhere in between, as this is set in between the two trilogies.

I suppose we will have to wait and see. Still trying to keep an open mind on this series.

“The other Sequels were the result of an over-anxious press. The original intention was to make three [films], and that was really the end of it. It was not until 10 years after the first [film] that I thought of doing a back story.” - George Lucas, speaking at the Premiere of ROTS in 2005
