I’m very glad to learn a little bit more about the series as it’s one of the upcoming projects I’m most intrigued by

Me too, but did we really learn anything here besides the lead actress?

I just hope it isn’t too indicative of the series itself. I like my Star Wars to be an escape from reality, not a reminder of hot-button issues. Then again, Star Wars has always featured some call-back to real-world issues and politics. Just not usually contemporary ones.

No, I just don’t want the show to become an exploration of LGBT problems that are front and centre in our own universe at the moment and, whether you like it or not, are quite divisive. I’d rather it be focused on the High Republic as such. There are other types of shows that can do more justice to LGBT issues. I also don’t want Star Wars to explore climate change, or pandemics, or abortion, or immigration, or populist politics, or the issues of capitalism and socialism. These things can be in the background, but I don’t want Star Wars to be about them, so long as they remain controversial/hot topics. I want to be immersed in another universe when I watch Star Wars, not constantly brought back to real-world issues, regardless of the actual stance the show takes.

I can’t wait for release dates and trailers to start rolling out. This is going to be a great year for Star Wars fans (Acolyte is 2023).

I’m up for whoever they hire. I look forward to getting the next Star Wars story and don’t mind new perspectives. The future of Star Wars looks bright to me.

That’s very true. I was a bit hasty thinking it might affect the plot of the show.

Temura Morison’s Maori background has influenced The Book of Boba Fett, and I think it’s all the better for it. I believe one of the reasons for hiring diverse people is to get a diverse input. It doesn’t have to be political unless someone makes it political, but I suppose someone inevitably will. Just as there were lots of comments about the High Republic from people who obviously hadn’t read the books and had no idea what they were talking about, so too will it likely be with this. I’ll just glide right over the top of all that and just watch the show for myself.

I remember this show being described as a mystery-thriller. I love the sound of that.

And you say this is going to be a great year then specify that The Acolyte is next year? I’m a little confused here.

We’re already currently getting The Book of Boba Fett. I believe Obi-Wan and Andor are complete (maybe just a little post production still left). We should also get a second season of The Bad Batch and maybe season 3 of The Mandalorian at the end of 2022. Not to mention Star Wars Celebration, more High Republic books and comics, and hopefully LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. That sounds like a great 2022 to me, and I’m hoping we get firm release dates for all of the above soon, but I clarified that Acolyte is for 2023 since we are in the thread for that show. I’m sure we’ll continue to get news on it as they start production, just as we did with Obi-Wan and Andor.

It depends who’s using it. Those who self-describe as woke mean it in the sense of being aware and vigilant about social justice issues (by which is usually meant racism, feminism, LGBTQ issues, etc.). Those who use it as a derogatory term or who see it negatively usually have in mind a particular sort of left-wing intolerance for anything that deviates from being strongly affirmative of LGBTQ rights (including things like pronoun usage), affirmative action, white privilege, equality of outcome for women, (democratic) socialism, etc. Most of academia at present could be described as woke (at least in my experience of Canadian universities).

Not anymore, unfortunately. But yes, we’re getting off track.

I am very much looking forward to this show…probably more than I am to any of the other ones, except maybe the third season of ‘‘The Mandalorian’’. I haven’t gotten into the High Republic books and comics, but I am eager to explore a new era of the Star Wars universe on screen.

I hope there are some references to the High Republic novels. Not that you would have to read the books to watch the show, just a few easter eggs.

I imagine there would be. I’m sure they want to keep the interest of the people who’ve been reading the books, not just the broader public.

I don’t venture into the cantina and such very often. Are politics banned here now? I wouldn’t know. If so, will a mod be cleaning this thread up then?

Some people have been catered to for so long, they don’t even recognize it, to the point where the inclusion of others feels like oppression to them.

I think it’s said to be near the end of the High Republic era, so not long before The Phantom Menace I would guess. The term “acolyte” combined with the slashed logo gives me Sith vibes. I know it’s said in TPM that the Sith have been gone for a millennium, but we all know they weren’t truly gone. They say “keep yout friends close, and your enemies closer.” Maybe they were closer all along than anyone expected. Can’t wait to find out more.
