some welcome interaction with Fennec Shand too (am intrigued to see how their relationship functions).

Definitely romantic.

I’m sure Fennec and Boba have had a conversation about Omega at some point. Fennec seems to know a lot about her. I wonder if Boba will show up on The Bad Batch or if we’ll get at least a mention here.

The Bad Batch - S1E9 “Bounty Lost”

Fennec Shand - “The only person you can rely on is yourself.”

Omega - “Why did you kill Taun We?”

Fennec Shand - “Part of the job. You should thank me. What their Prime Minister has planned for you is far worse than why I’m here.”

Omega - “What does he want me for?”

Fenne Shand - “You already know the answer. Omega, I’m trying to help you.”

Omega - “You said the same thing on Pantora.”

How ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ Will Shake Up ‘Star Wars’
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-features/robert-rodriguez-interview-book-of-boba-fett-star-wars-1235062364/

“If the Book of Boba Fett teaser trailers released so far seem a bit less than epic, it’s due to a deliberate act of restraint: The producers have only revealed footage from the seven-episode season’s opening minutes. “We can’t use the second half of the first episode because it gives so much away,” Rodriguez says.”

This is even more extreme than the Mando s2 trailers! This makes me excited for what they’re keeping under wraps so much, but at the same time, worried because this could turn out to be yet ANOTHER season overcrowded with contrived appearances from beloved characters, a la Mandalorian season 2 or The Bad Batch. Excluding Visions, which is a very separate project anyway, that would be the third in a row.

Strongly disagree. Season 2 of The Mandalorian is one of the best things to ever be shown on a screen. The cameo appearances in both shows make perfect sense narratively and compliment the main characters.

Season 2 of The Mandalorian is one of the best things to ever be shown on a screen.

That’s a pretty intense statement. Season 2’s episodes do often have a “backdoor pilot” vibe to them with their appearing characters, which can take you out of the “here and now” of Mando’s story. While Season 1 felt more self-contained and narratively focused, with much more time spent establishing new characters rather than bringing back old ones from other material. Season 1 felt like its own self-reliant story that could be taking place in some corner of a vast galaxy, while with Season 2, the way Mando keeps meeting established characters so rapidly takes away from that feeling of a wide setting.

But we can’t turn back. Fear is their greatest defense. I doubt if the actual security there is any greater than it was on Aquilae or Sullust. And what there is is most likely directed towards a large-scale assault.

If you’d never seen any of those characters before, and had no idea who they were, the story would still make sense. Sure, there’s some joy in seeing favorite characters, but the show isn’t propped up on their appearances. It stands on its own.

I think The Mandalorian has a great balance of new and old, and if The Book of Boba Fett is similar, we’re in for another treat!

I’ve mentioned this in the Mandalorian thread, but both my mother and uncle watched the show and neither had any idea that Ahsoka or Bo-Karan were established characters and had no issues following the plot. The great thing about Favreau’s writing is that he gave all of these characters a purpose within Din’s character arc making it feel organic to the casual fan while still being fanservice to us cartoon/EU fans.

Cameos where bound to happen after the success of Season 1 (especially with this franchise) and I don’t think it could have been handled much better.

Well, the cameos may have been well-integrated, but I personally object to the idea of having so many previously appearing characters in the first place. All those “remember this guy?” moments in recent Star Wars stuff shrink the universe way too much in my opinion: It doesn’t feel like a massive galaxy when every important character has met every other important character. If BoBF is gonna be another universe-shrinking cameo fest, I’ll be disappointed.

If someone goes looking for Mandalorians and Jedi, I’m not surprised when they meet a few we’ve heard of, seeing how there are so few of each left. Meeting them never detracts from the focus of the main story. It’s more just a brief intersection.

But I have no doubt we’ll see even more characters appearing soon. A few castings have already been announced. The way their story left off was meant to be continued, and I have no problem with them doing it in live action instead of animation. And I have no problem if it intersects other stories. The major players in the galaxy are bound to bump into each other from time to time, because their interest often lead them to.

Small universe syndrome is here to stay in Star Wars, may as well get used to it. What’s the point of having all these cool characters in this sandbox if we never get to see them cross paths with eachother? Realistic statistical probabilities of people meeting eachother…blah, that’s boring. Never tell me the odds. Just lighten up and learn to have some fun.

Nobody complained when Luke and the gang managed to cross paths with each other in the Marvel comic, in spite of Han’s many misadventures trying to get back and pay Jabba and Luke doing missions for the Alliance. 😉

Yeah, I know. The franchise has been having this problem ever since Anakin built Threepio, might as well just have fun with it.

I would personally say that there is a fairly big difference between two very different character sharing a contrived origin story and a Mandalorian who is looking for other mandalorians bumping into important mandalorians. Yes, it’s technically the same thing, but the latter feels more story-relevant and not just fanservice. Ditto on Ahsoka and Luke since there’s only a handful of Jedi left on the entire galaxy. It feels much more plausible and actually adds to the narrative of Din’s character journey and the exploration of what it means to be a Mandalorian.

I agree, having a non-arbitrary story reason helps a lot.

Anakin building 3PO (or the droids really having anything to do with characters in the PT) feels random and weird. At least chronologically it makes enough sense how these droids ended up connected to OT characters since it was not by chance but because they were stationed with Leia’s parents’ staff.

My stance on revising fan edits.

I grew up feeling the first Star Wars movie was when the all characters first got together, so seeing Anakin build C-3PO and R2 on Padme’s ship seemed forced. But if you look at it in chronological order starting with the prequels then TCW, where the droids were essentially already part of their family, then it makes complete sense they’d be around on the Tantive-IV.

Ding Djarin went looking for other Mandalorians and Jedi. Since there aren’t many Mandalorians around, I’m not surprised he met some I’ve heard of. The scarcity of Mandalorians is even mentioned in the show. Jedi are even more rare at this time, so when Grogu calls out from the stone, there’s a really high percentage someone we knew would show up. In my opinion, inventing new characters for these parts of the story would not be the way to go when you have existing characters that make more sense. Again, the show is written well enough you don’t need to know who they are.

Is it just me, or have they made Boba’s helmet slightly longer for the show, and in this promo pic it’s the original helmet? If it really is a minor design alteration and not me losing my mind, I don’t like it quite as much.

I think I am more excited for this than I am for Christmas!

It’s also worth noting that camera angles and especially lens distortion have a tremendous impact on how a helmet (or person or anything really) looks on screen.

Case in point:

These are both me in the same helmet on the same day. Photos taken within seconds of each other. (I zoomed and cropped just to focus on the helmet, but I didn’t manipulate the vertical or horizontal stretch. This is exactly how the photos appeared when taken).

That’s really interesting to see the different effects, and I see what you mean. (Also, rocking that helmet. You’re making me want one!)

I still think they possibly have altered the helmet though because it feels like it’s longer to me in - I think - every shot we’ve seen him in so far, in the trailers. I can complain about it in a nitpicky Star Wars nerd way and still prefer the original more boxy version, but ultimately they probably changed it as Tem Morrison found the helmet too uncomfortable when filming Mando s2 (and he’ll have been filming long days in an already uncomfortable costume). And that does come first. It reminds me of how I don’t like the live action Ahsoka look, with much shorter head tails, but that’s also a necessary adjustment for Rosario Dawson when she’s doing stunts etc.
