After all the acrimony I doubt they would, even if it was relevant to the show.

Darth vader wasn’t in the Mandalorian so it wouldn’t fit as well

I despise how George ordained the mistreatment of David Prowse even more than the special edition changes. A movie can be restored, but a person can’t.

I don’t care if Vader was in The Mandalorian or not. It would have been a nice acknowledgement.

Having finished the new season, I am very disappointed. Season 1 in my opinion was MILES better.

Season 1 was an entertaining space Western series with with a simple main story of a traditional masculine warrior archetype developing paternal feelings for a child, complemented by some fun self-contained side quests. It offered a glimpse into a culture previously unexplored in Star Wars films. Its limited scope, patient pace and focus on quiet character moments instead of over-inflated set pieces and heavy-handed thematic messages made it almost unfashionably old-school and thorougly enjoyable for every audience. It was also refershingly original for a Star Wars (despite some unavoidable fan service).

Season 2 had its nice moments in the first two episodes, but then it largely succumbed into unabashed, full-time fan service with little room for anything else. Instead of introducing new, interesting characters like Kuiil, The Armorer or IG-11, the payoffs focused on the return of characters from other media. You were supposed to cheer for Ahsoka and Bo-Katan and Boba Fett turning up not because they were interesting or said interesting things but because they were familiar from The Clone Wars / the OT. It was rewarding for hardcore fans with a capital F, but that’s my problem. It was a series for the hardcore fans, not for the general audience or casual fans like Season 1 was.

I also felt that the purpose of several episodes/scenes wasn’t to tell a self-contained story or serve the arc of the season, but to set up spin-off series, which turned out to be exactly the case. This is the real Marvelization of Star Wars, which I regret, but I am aware that I am in a minority, and most fans actually want this and will enjoy the myryad upcoming series.

I think this is a fair point, however I don’t blame Lucasfilm for going this route. I also believe when season 3 eventually comes around, it will be much more in line with season 1, only with bigger stakes. Clearly with the success of season 1 they have finally found a way to keep the audiences satisfied and they want to capitalise on this direction. Season 2 set up a lot of stories going forward, but it is not sustainable to announce and introduce a dozen new projects each year.

There were some fan favorite characters that appeared, but season 2 was so much more. The first episode had the most western feel of all the episodes to me. A stranger rides into a dying town to help the Marshal save them then rides off into the sunset. The episode with Ahsoka was a full on Samurai movie. I love the visuals, especially Ahsoka on rooftops.
None of the fan favorite characters from the animated series took over the show though. It was still focused on Din Djarin and Grogu.
We also got an outstanding performance from Bill Burr as Mayfeld that gave us some insight into the mind of a former Imperial.
The score of season 2 was even more amazing than the incredible Emmy winning first season.
Last but not leas was Luke Skywalker, who I don’t regard as just someone for the hardcore fans. I think Luke is as recognizable as any character. He’s part of pop culture. That final episode was peak Star Wars.

I agree that season 2 in general improved on the strengths of the first series, though I’ll conceed some of the new faces or references to the lore could became a bit overwhelming for those who hadn’t kept up with all of the Star Wars content (particularly Filoni’s previous animated works). One of the things I liked the most about season 1 was that even someone who grasps only the basic stuff about SW could enjoy the series. Season 2 isn’t as newcomer-friendly in that regard. However, now that the parallel spin-offs (Boba, Ahsoka, etc.) have been properly set-up, the upcoming third season can go back to a more self-contained narrative, even if it’s bigger in scale.

I agree that it was nice having season 1 as a re-introduction to Star Wars of sorts, and very self-contained - even the concept of Jedi are explained. But season 2 doesn’t seem to have confused casual fans or newcomers, in fact it’s got them exploring more of Star Wars. They’ll have questions, but they’re questions out of curiosity rather than a lack of understanding the plot. I’ve already had someone who watched Mando seasons 1 and 2, then came to me asking what episodes of The Clone Wars I’d recommend. It’s great to see The Mandalorian having this effect on people.

In regards to season 2 potentially having too many cameo characters:

Of course the irony here is that it’s really just us SW geeks that can be excited or annoyed at them bringing in EU characters. F.ex. I share my Disney+ account with my mother (who’s a very casual OT fan) and whenever I ask her about the latest episodes it never even occurred to her that some characters were from other series until I mention it. As far as she was concerned regarding chapter 11 it was just fun to see other Mandalorians that were allowed to take off their helmets and since it added to Din’s story she enjoyed the episode. The name Ahsoka means nothing to her so its just the name of a “new” character to her.

I still have a feeling that season 2, like Rebels, will be the most cameo heavy season while the next two will reign it in a little more. But regardless, I maintain that they’ve handled the introduction of pre-existing character really well. Not only has season 2 been, as Jedi_bendu suggested, been a great way for people to be introduced to the larger SW universe, but for casual fans it has just been the story of Din & Grogu and most of them probably never even guessed that Bo-Katan and Ahsoka were characters from another show. The Fett reveal in The Marshal might have been a little odd to some casual fans, especially those who don’tcare for the PT and a more of the OT generation. But even then it was simply a mysterious character that was a few episodes later revealed to be Boba Fett (armor and all), so even that worked out.

As a side note; my uncle also watches the show, and I had to explain to him halfway through the 2nd season that the series was set after ROTJ (though keep in mind that Norway didn’t get season 1 until Sept. 2020). Us SW fans do often tend to overestimate just how well most people know this franchise. And despite this I’ve not heard a single complaint about the characters from either my mother or uncle.

has anyone download the mandalorian gallery and like to share?

I think the point they are making is it’s available legally and easily without resorting to illegal downloads. Bootlegging readily available content isn’t what this site has ever been about.

nope. no download possible.
i have d+ but can´t download it on my pc so thats why i ask.
can download it on my handy, but i like it on my pc to work with this.

I don’t think he’s planning on bootlegging this. Just using it for fanedits and the like. You need a screen recorder that can somehow get past Disney+'s copyright encoding which sounds kinda illegal but I don’t see any other way.

If you already have D+, and are just using the download for fanedits, you can probably find it on at least one torrent site. It would be against site rules to direct you any further though.

My preferred Skywalker Saga experience:
I II III IV V VI VII VIII IX

I don’t think it’s confusing for newcomers, just less exciting. I haven’t seen seasons 5-7 of the Clone Wars, so Bo-Katan was just a new character for me, and it worked. And I don’t really know what Ahsoka’s been up to since season 4, aside from the occasional spoiler I’ve had the misfortune to read recently.

Dude, you literally stopped watching The Clone Wars just as it’s getting really good. You need to catch up on that.

I didn’t stop, I just haven’t finished catching up! I had only just started season 2 a year ago. I didn’t have a way of watching anything beyond the first season till I got Disney+.
