ROTJ : 4 males, 1 female
Mando : 4 females, 1 male

Han: Hey Lando! You kept your promise, right? Not a scratch?
Lando: Well, what’s left of her isn’t scratched. All the scratched parts got knocked off along the way.
Han (exasperated): Knocked off?!

Star Wars Explained just made a 151 Easter Eggs in the Mandalorian video, and the geekiest by far has to be that Bib Fortuna in the post-credits scene is holding the same type of staff that his Kenner action figure did back in the 80’s.

No concept art or character poster this week.

I have to say I was looking forward to the Luke character poster. They have to release it at some point… right?

I wondered when watching the episode if any concept art was done for Luke at all, to avoid the danger of it leaking online.

Amazing no leaks of Luke happened.

They must’ve had massive security and secrecy for filming that.

Luke CGI and dialogue was so bad I thought he was actually Luuke until R2D2 walked in LOL.

Great episode tho.

Din doesn’t even know his name. I wouldn’t give over my child to a stranger with that serial killer stare.

Yeah, was it too hard for him to say a proper introduction? A simple “Hi, I’m Luke Skywalker” would be better than nothing.

They didn’t want creepy cg Luke to have too much screen time.

I remember reading a theory regarding Luke’s vague dialogue, saying that they did it that way in order to prevent people finding out about Luke’s involvement. If they just saw some random stunt actor, and his words pretty much just amounted to him being a Jedi who’s come to take Grogu away, then they wouldn’t think twice about it. But once they deepfake Luke’s face onto him and have him be voiced by Mark Hamill, suddenly that random Jedi becomes Luke.

I thought that theory made sense, but hearing that Mark was actually playing Luke on set, I’m not so sure anymore.

Good thing about these streaming platforms is that they can easily go back and fix - make improvements whenever they want. Ala Jeans Guy.

That THING is NOT Luke it’s a terrifying demon.

Oh, come on. People are really exaggerating how bad Luke’s face looks. It’s just a somewhat blurry deepfake, nothing horrible.

It’s as bad as the people that said the droids were ruined by dubstep.

I didn’t even notice until people complained 10000 times and I rewatched.

I actually think the Darktrooper theme is great. I never listen to dubstep, but I’m glad Ludwig Goransson is drawing on so many different styles and making his soundtrack experimental.

Agreed. He certainly draws from a much more modern set of influences than Williams, but he manages to stay grounded in a solid classical approach. Very fitting choice for a series like this.

Sorry, but even if deepfake (or whatever the technique used for the show is called) is fine for funny videos on YouTube, I expect something better from a streaming/television show or movie.

They should have used a different actor without any CGI nonsense. It was bad in Rogue One, and even worse in Mandalorian.

Same here, I really liked it.

Ludwig Göransson brings fresh and modern tastes to Star Wars while still respecting classical roots. He’s great.

Just listening to the opening seconds of “The Mudhorn” in season 1 showed me I could expect anything from the score, and I mean that in a very good way.

Even when he used familiar themes such as the march of the Resistance he re-did them in an unique style.

I really thought the effects on Luke were great, and for a long time I couldn’t figure out if it was Sebastian Stan or a stand-in with Mark’s face. Of course the CGI becomes more noticeable when one is looking for it, but it felt much more natural than, lets say, Leia at the end of Rogue One.

As I mentioned earlier, there were a few scenes where I thought the score was odd. One spot where he knocked it out of the park is the Book Of Boba scene. As he’s walking up the steps and pulls the body onto the floor, it goes from awesome to even more awesome as he sits down. One of the best musical passages of the past two seasons, I think. Perfect music for Fett.

Well, I would personally disagree. I think the deepfake looked much better than the typical “funny videos on YouTube,” and I think it was the best option for the scene. Luke needs to be instantly recognizable as Luke, especially when the dialogue doesn’t even mention his name. If they recast, I’m sure a lot of people would walk away with the impression that he was just some random Jedi, which is probably not the impression the creators would want.

I agree. While I’m fine with the Sebastian Stan recast, I’d still want to see it touched up with a deepfake to look exactly like Mark Hamill. It’s the same problem I have with Solo. Harrison Ford is who registers as Han Solo for me, so when I see the new actor, it completely sucks me out of the movie.

The Luke “deepfake” (or whatever technique is it they used) looks progressively worse, IMO. Starts off very strong, but those last two shots… straight out of Battlefront II. And I’m not sure if the 2017 one or the 2005 one.
