The Rise of Skywalker: Ascendant (Released) — Page 306

I just rewatched the current version of this edit and I can honestly say it has improved my perspective greatly. This community is beyond talented and I thank Hal for all his hard work and dedication to this franchise over the years. However, along with my request to add Vader’s castle at Mustafar and Coruscant at the boardroom meeting, is there a way to make Ben’s finally words in the trilogy not be “ouch”?

I know it is a minor gripe, but it still bothers me. After a fresh watch, it seems there are moment’s when Ben’s mouth/face is obstructed by darkness, perhaps we could get a subtle “Rey” or “No” before he rises to face Palpatine and his face is obscured or when he is struggling to Rey after returning from his descent down the pit. Perhaps others will think this is a waste of time or unnecessary, but in mind anything is better than the protagonist’s/antagonist’s of the entire trilogy last lines to be basically a grunt. What is everyone thoughts on this? I know it maybe nitpicky; let me know.

The crackly blue saber fits nicely into Rey’s inner conflict, fearing that she may go dark. The saber was split in half the last time we saw it and making it crackle lets that event have some sort of meaningful (or any) effect on the story following. Rey needs guidance, needs discipline, and needs to cohere. It also makes some more sense of the line about earning the saber.

It just fits like a glove, so it’ll be great to see completed. But, if you prefer it to be absent, I’d suggest keeping your copy of V1 and editing in any other potential V2 alterations you like.

My stance on revising fan edits.

I much prefer your version jonh. It’s much more subtle and seamless like sade1212 said. Judging from this teaser it looks like a cool fan project, but not something that would fit inside the movie, much like SC 38 Reimagined.

Kylos saber is like that to signify the rage inside of him.

Kylo’s saber was supposed to mirror his unstable nature, being torn between the light & dark sides. Rey struggles with a similar inner conflict in TRoS, so it makes sense for her blade to mirror this aswell. It also plays into the connection between Rey and Kylo, it foreshadows Ben taking on the saber, it fits with the damage inflicted in TLJ. It’s honestly mind-boggling they didn’t think to do it in the original cut.

+1

This would really help the ending emotionally imo

If doable, that could be nice. Can a voice over when he gets up work? I have to see the scene to see if it’s possible with the timing.

kylo in coruscant, a lot a people asked about coruscant so talk with this guy

Not really what I had in mind, but thanks for sharing. This is very “fan-edity” to me; I wanted something much more subtle. Just for Coruscant to appear from orbit behind the window in the boardroom meeting with FO top brass.

I just watched your sequel trilogy edits and they are truly awesome. I do have a fondness for these films, despite the many issues they are plagued with. Your edits though really streamline the experience and focus the story. There are moments that could of been enhanced with overall better writing, but in particular the Last Jedi Legendary is a very tight movie, with a lot of powerful moments.
Thank you so much for sharing all of the hard work from so many clearly talented people. 🙏🏽

Wasn’t that one guy’s version of the Force ghost scene supposed to premiere today? He hasn’t posted anything as far as I can tell

Add in cracks onto Kylo’s helmet in that Force vision, too. I know it might be confusing for some watching the film, but I guess it could be inferred as a vision of the future where something has happened to Kylo’s helmet.

Wait a minute, what would explain the slaughtered people if the planet Kylo and his Knights are on if said planet is Exegol?

Maybe the bodies are meant to imply the death of her friends in the Resistance over Exegol? Spitballing here of course, but if that was made a bit more clear somehow it would be a nice touch.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Sorry, couldn’t help myself!

If anyone is interested in what it would look like, here’s a quick mockup with some stock footage!

If done well this could be really great, probably best not for this edit with all the changes already not made.

Hi ! I’ve started working on the Exegol sequence. Here’s part 1 :

pw : fanedit

DominicCobb, I didn’t find a good effect on AE to do what you asked, I know that it is possible on DaVinci Resolve with Fusion but for mysterious reasons, I can’t manage to have Resolve working on my computer.

Also, I’m having real trouble to handle the crackling effect on close-up shots of the saber, so please feel free to take a look at it if you think you can improve it.

One last question : which version of Leia’s saber should I work with for the Exegol sequence ? Blue or purple ?

The crackle this time around almost seems too subtle, it’s really easy to miss.

As for which version of Leia’s saber, I would use purple for the purposes of this edit, but if you can do both eventually that would be helpful for other editors.

After being beaten and battered by prequel hate, I promise not to be that to the next generation.

Yeah I really can’t see the crackle

I would agree that it’s too subtle for the most part, and from 0:56 and onward it appears that there’s no change.

As for Leia’s saber, I would say work with the default blue version so your work can stand alone as its own edit for others to use in their fan-edits, although it would be great for everyone involved if you were able to do both! 😃
