Also, I’m with the new guy here. I just did a quick DuckDuckGo search for 4K77, and the download links aren’t there at all. Even searching “4K77 download” gives no info at all. So you could really be more helpful, Jaxer.

Searching torrent instead of download should bring something up. Jaxer’s continued rude responses may have been out of line, but typing in one single search isn’t trying very hard.

Okay, I typed that, and some results came up. So it is there, you just need to now what to search for. Jaxer could have specified what terms to search instead of being rude and condescending though.

Also, I’m glad that the mods deleted all the cussing and whatnot. Those last few posts were a pain to read though.

How does one get there hands on 4k77 nowadays? I’ve been trying to find it forever but keep getting caught on needing an invite for their forum before I can access downloads. Would kill to add this to my collection as it looks gorgeous.

One of the most convenient options is finding it on torrent sites. You can find it by going on duckduckgo.com and searching “4K77 torrent”. That will bring up several options for downloading.

I know some are on RARBG, though I’m not certain of which version(s).

Can someone please make a list of all audio tracks included in 4K77? I would greatly appreciate that.

Does there exist a DNR version of v1.4? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I’ve only just discovered this project and am trying to get up to speed. My understanding is that the difference between v1.0 and v1.4 is that v1.4 features color correction. But I can only find a no DNR version of v1.4 and personally it would be nice to have the color correction but with DNR too. Or are these processes contradictory with each other?

Edit: Forgot I’m on Spleen so I checked and it’s not there so I assume it must not exist. Are there plans for it?

There was only one DNR release, but a new edition of 4K77 has been in the works (v2.0) that will have a new color correction with both noDNR and DNR versions. Don’t expect that for a while yet though, they’re pretty busy.

To clarify the reason why - the original release of 4K77 (v1.0) has its color white-balanced but otherwise more or less unchanged (or something very close to that), because at the last minute nobody could agree on the different color grading attempts that were being put forward.

When work began on the DNR version, it was discovered that applying DNR to the image revealed more dirt, dust, and scratches that were largely hidden (or made mostly unnoticeable) by the grain. So they went back to the pre-color-corrected master files, DNR’d them, then did a whole second cleanup pass to the film. While Williarob was doing this, he decided to tackle the color on his own this time, on a more or less shot-by-shot basis.

This means that the DNR version of 4K77 has an entirely different base color grading than the no-DNR version, so you can’t just take Sanjuro’s color correction of the no-DNR version and apply it to the DNR version, you’ll get an entirely different (and very wrong) look since it would be a grade on top of a different grade.

The new v2.0 is being done in a similar way to 4K83, so that there will be a base version with a standard color correction that will be used to make the DNR and no-DNR, which means from v2.0 forward, color grades can be applied to both DNR 2.0 and no-DNR 2.0 without any of the issues that would come with trying to apply a new color grade to DNR 1.0.

Hope that helps explain things a bit!

This is really great info, thank you!! I’ve gone ahead and obtained each version of v1.0 and v1.4 as well as DrDre’s color corrected v1.4 and will start watching tonight. I’m curious though what exactly it means to not “correct” the colors. Shouldn’t the colors of v1.0 be more or less as they appeared in theaters in 1977? Barring any affect that projectors and projection screens may have on color? Or is there more to it than that? I’d love to hear your insight on this matter, I obviously don’t know anything about film production 😃

Has anyone done a colour correction of this to match Harmys despecialised 2.7? I much prefer the colours of that!

To dramatically over-simplify it - (most of) the prints are faded and require adjustment to return them to their original state, but because the prints are faded (and the “unfaded” Technicolor prints have their own quirks due to the Technicolor process that wouldn’t be present in non-Tech prints), nobody can really agree on what’s accurate to the original colors and what’s not.

As for whether the color on 4K77 v1.0 is accurate to the technicolor print used, is kind of and kind of not as far as I’m aware. I think it’s mostly accurate, though I recall discussion around reel 1 having improperly balanced color because of an error. All that was done to the scan for v1.0 to my knowledge (aside from a contrast adjustment) is being white balanced using the soundtrack on the film.

The new color correction being used for the in progress v2.0 release seems to capture well balanced and still very accurate color.

4K77 and 4K83 in last versions available in mHD/classic 720P and SD-sized (classic ~1-4GBs sizes BDRIP) DNR/noDNR format?? (Directly encoded from RAW source.)

4K77 v1.0/1.4 and 4K83 v1.0/1.3 releases, is there a time difference? (few frames?)

Hi, I currently have the DNR version of 4K77, but I’ve heard that 1.4 is a big improvement. I’ve also heard about a few other versions so I’m a bit confused as to which is the latest/best.
I have heard about a skywaker/skymaster edition, not sure what that is. Also I think there is a colour correction by DrDre but I’m not sure if that has been released yet. Any information would be great, thanks.

there is no best version, it is a matter pf preferences. The latest nodnr is v1.4. But there are working on k77 2.0 right now with some cleanup improvements

I’ve got the 1.4 version and I really like the color grading, only the grain could be a bit less to me. Will this new 2.0 version only apply minimal DNR or will it also be a new color grade? Where can I follow the progress on that 2.0 version? And is that the same as the Skymaster/Skywalked edition I’m reading about? (sorry if this has been asked already)

HI,

I’ve been pointed to this direction regarding the 4Kxx films. I’ve been wondering for some time on how to download it. Now if I’ve done my homework correctly, it states that you can download it from various sources of private torrent trackers by likes of Myspleen. Since its ‘private’, registration is closed and access is obviously restricted. I’ve learned however, that 4Kxx content can also be accessed from its dedicated website:
https://forums.thestarwarstrilogy.com/. Like Myspleen, it to is restricted unless given an invite code from a forum member. Rather than going through all this trouble on trying to make a Myspleen account and such, I would much prefer downloading it from the website if deemed possible. Any help on matter is much appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Kind Regards

You can download them from Usenet BUT I don’t think all the versions are on there and if you want to do it for free it will be very slow (like around a week, with you having to check up on it every 3 hours!). Also it’s kinda complicated, I don’t fully understand the process lol, but there is a really good guide on the forum: https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Guide-to-Downloading-Projects-from-Usenet/id/69476
Hope this was useful!

Based on the provided info on 4K77’s webpage, 97% of the film comes from a Spanish print. If that’s accruate, I assume the other 3% is for the opening scrawl, end credits, and damaged frames?

I’m unsure about the audio source for the SSE, but is all the audio for 4K77 from the GOUT or does is some from prints?

That’s incorrect. Waht is says on the webpage is that “97% of project 4K77 is from a single, original 1977 35mm Technicolor release print”, the other 3% is a mix of Spanish LPP, a second British IB Technicolor print, a 97 Special Edition print and 2011 Bluray (for any frames that were missing from all prints at the reel changes).

Audio is from Harmy’s Despecialized, which is mostly laserdisc sourced. All of the print audio is incomplete since there are frames missing throughout, and the LPP audio is obviously in Spanish.
