Writers rooms aren’t committees, arguably movies could stand to implement the practice as well.

Nothing wrong with a writers room especially with a series there’s too much material for the auteur approach which I also wouldn’t want here. It’s the people above the writers, the producers and executives deciding which creatives get replaced and have ultimate say over which direction to take the story, this latest change doesn’t mean to imply the production is doomed, it’s a little concerning, a lot concerning if it continues to happen. What it seems like is they haven’t totally made up their mind yet, so it still could be all for the best I just personally hope Lucasfilm swings for the fences rather than plays it safe. I’m not rooting for anything to fail.

Leia Organa isn’t a committee

A writers room can be called a committee to some degree, although I don’t think a “committee” is even necessarily a bad thing. What’s important is who you put on it

To that end, I don’t know that this guy is a good guy to put on it, much less at the head of it, but then again a lot of people probably would have side-eyed the appointing of “The Eyes of Laura Mars” director to the Star Wars sequel back in 1978, too. The Jurassic World guy was seen as a bad pick to head up the 9th Star Wars movie and then it turned out he had a better feel for what it could have been than the guy who made the 7th installment. Committes aren’t inherently bad, but staffing them poorly is.

I do think the last 20 years of television includes some of the best filmmaking period in that that time, and some of the biggest and most substantial achievements in filmed storytelling have happened in that medium, so I agree with Dom that the film industry (in whatever form it eventually assumes once we get through this upcoming recession/depression) could stand to crib heavily from how TV is doing things. It’s hard to argue with results on both a cultural and a storytelling scale like we’ve seen in the past 2 decades.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Series Will Use Same VFX Technology As The Mandalorian’:

https://www.ign.com/articles/obi-wan-kenobi-series-vfx-technology-the-mandalorian

'Ewan McGregor has suggested that the Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+ will use the same groundbreaking visual effects techniques as The Mandalorian.

In an interview with ACE Nation, McGregor, who appeared in George Lucas’ Star Wars prequel trilogy, teased some behind-the-scenes details about the upcoming Obi-Wan spinoff series. In particular, he lauded today’s VFX technology and how much it has evolved since his involvement with the saga in the early 2000s.

“I think I am going to enjoy it much more,” he admitted. "[The prequels] were all blue screen and green screen and it was hard to imagine, but nowadays I think things have moved on so much, and I think a lot of what you see is gonna be what we see on the set.

“I don’t know if you’ve seen the behind-the-scenes of The Mandalorian series, but they employ that incredible screen… it’s pretty amazing. It makes you feel like you’re in the place, it’s going to feel realer for us, as actors. And I think we’ll be using some of that technology on our show.”

For The Mandalorian, Lucasfilm utilised a cutting-edge technology, known as “StageCraft,” that projects high-resolution imagery onto LED screens, which wrap around sets to create reactive surroundings for actors to immerse themselves into their environments.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series, which was originally set to be a movie, is set to take place 8 years after Revenge of the Sith and will be directed by Deborah Chow, who helmed episodes of The Mandalorian. Joby Harold also recently signed on as a writer for the series, even though its production has been on hold since the beginning of the year.’

^ Cool news that they’ll be using the same tech as used on The Mandalorian for this series - and also a cool video interview with Ewan McGregor 😃

Ewan McGregor Confirms Kenobi Disney Plus Series Will Be One Standalone Season; Shooting Starts Spring 2021
https://www.starwarsnewsnet.com/2020/09/ewan-mcgregor-confirms-kenobi-disney-plus-series-will-be-one-standalone-season-shooting-starts-spring-2021.html

Of course the latter could always change, and I don’t think too many expected an ongoing series. If they manage to stick to this though, then it’s most likely it will be done early 2022.

Exciting stuff! But I guess the two of them can never come face to face in the show, right? Tarkin and Vader seemed genuinely surprised that Obi-Wan was still alive all these years later, to say nothing of “when I left you I was but the learner…”

It could actually work in a way to have them meet.

As Vader also says “You should not have come back.” So perhaps they did meet during the time gap and it also gives us a chance to see verbally “Obi-Wan once thought as you do.” Instead of it being expressed through Obi-Wan’s defensive lightsaber fighting on Mustafar. Plus how does Obi-Wan know he’s “more machine than man”?

There a couple of ways to work around it if they want to go that way.

“Heroes come in all sizes, and you don’t have to be a giant hero. You can be a very small hero. It’s just as important to understand that accepting self-responsibility for the things you do, having good manners, caring about other people - these are heroic acts. Everybody has the choice of being a hero or not being a hero every day of their lives.” - George Lucas

I’m incredibly hyped to see Vader again. I really hope they finally bring his juggernaut comic self on screen and the fact that they’re bringing Hayden Christensen to act as him is amazing. He was so happy to play him in the suit in ROTS and I can just imagine how awesome this must be for him. Probably a dream come true. ROTS proved he’s got the perfect build for playing Vader as well so it’s perfect.

I honestly don’t think they’re actually going to have him and Obi-Wan meet. If I were to guess his role will probably be attempting to hunt him down. But if they do meet I’d be interested in seeing how they’d execute it.

Please please have him duel Jedi.

I’m already geeking out so hard. The only thing that could make this better is if they brought in Liam Neeson, had him play Qui-Gon and had him talk with Obi-Wan and maybe even try to reach Vader. I think Qui-Gon’s inclusion would definitely make Obi-Wan’s side of the story even more interesting.

Very interested in seeing what they do with both of these amazing characters.

This man’s a good actor. It’s about time he had another bash at the role.

Discription of the Obi-Wan sizzle reel shown to investors.

ComicBook has provided a description of the footage seen during the Obi-Wan Kenobi sizzle reel. In the video, Ewan McGregor acknowledged the heavy desire from the fans to see him don the Jedi robes again:

“There’s a hunger for this character to come back. The fans have been waiting long enough, you know?”

Director Deborah Chow teased that there are Jedi Hunters out in the galaxy during this time:

“This is quite a dark time that we’re coming into with him, just being a Jedi — it’s not safe. There’s Jedi hunters out there.”

There was concept art depicting the Great Jedi Purge from Episode III:

Concept art shows a Jedi, lightsaber blade ignited, defending a trio of Younglings as the newly-anointed Darth Vader >marches on the Jedi Temple with a legion of Clone Troopers.

McGregor says that Obi-Wan’s sole job is to protect the son of his fallen student:

“He has this one task left, which is to keep Luke safe.”

It appears that we’ll be seeing both sand and sea:

More concept art shows a stingray-like creature floating above slave workers toiling away in the barren, sandy >landscape of Tatooine. “We start on Tatooine, and we go on a rollicking adventure,” McGregor teased over a glimpse at >a watery planet, where armed soldiers fire upon a many-armed sea creature.

Vader will naturally be a part of Kenobi’s story, and there’s a chance he might have a throne:

“We couldn’t tell the story of Obi-Wan Kenobi without addressing Anakin or Vader,” Chow added over an image of the armored Vader seated on a throne as he communicates with a hologram — possibly his master, the reigning Emperor of the Galactic Empire.

McGregor’s favorite part of the series? Working with an old friend again:

“The most beautiful thing of all is that it’s brought me back together with Hayden. It’ll be amazing to bring those characters back together again, very unexpectedly.”

Obi-Wan and Vader will clash blades again:

Chow confirmed that audiences will “definitely see Obi-Wan and Darth Vader get into it again” as we see the blue blade of a hooded Obi-Wan clash with the fiery red blade of Darth Vader.

McGregor knows the battle will be eagerly anticipated, and he’s looking forward to performing it just as much:

“Having another swing at each other might be quite satisfying for everybody. We hope that you enjoy it as much as we’re going to enjoy making it.”

I agree with that. I think there’s only so much you can do with the Attack of the Clones script.

You wouldn’t get Christensen back just to be in the suit, so I imagine there will be some flashbacks. But I’ll throw my hat in for some Anakin-desert-hallucinations or something Tyler Durden-y. Obi-Wan “seeing” Anakin as he goes on his adventures.

Well they said he would be playing Darth Vader so I interpreted that as actually playing him in the suit. I can imagine they’re probably going to do both what you said and that.

It tickles me slightly to imagine that they build up all this hype for Hayden, but then he’s nowhere to be seen or heard in the actual series, and it’s revealed he was in the suit but got dubbed over by James Earl Jones. Brought back just to get Prowse’d.

I need him to shout “Noooooo.”

And I hope the two don’t actually encounter each other in the present during the show. ANH strongly implies and feels like they’ve not met since Vader “left” Kenobi. It should be a 20-years-in-the-making encounter.

Hmm. Well, I wouldn’t choose to pit the two together in 10BBY, but maybe they’ll do it in a way that feels congruent.

My stance on revising fan edits.
