Harry Potter Extended Editions (Released) — Page 14

I don’t mind the Marvel style of the intros. New ones still do it well.

But what I liked about the old ones was:

  • Perfect pacing. 30 seconds is a good length, while 50 feels dragged out.
  • Variety of music, with each one being fitting for its own film. Considering many people (myself included) love to marathon the movies, having them play the same music every time would get tiring.
  • Lack of spoilers. That’s important, I know there are still people who are just getting into Harry Potter and starting with the movies instead of the books.

I hope you aren’t upset by the criticism, and can take these factors into consideration.

It is what it is. I don’t see the video clips as spoilers. First, for fanedits, those that download them are supposed to own the source material. So those that get the edits should already own the movies. Without context, those clips should mean absolutely nothing to anyone that is watching the movies for the first time. I assume that no one watches trailers for movies then since those include spoilers. To me, that isn’t a valid argument.

But I’m not going to tick anyone off by ruining their experience of the movies. I’ll just leave the old intros on and be done with it. I wanted something special for the new releases, but that just isn’t what is wanted.

For info on my HP edits, read the first post in the thread on OT.

Thanks for coming back JJ, really great to see a positive in the HP community with all the stuff going down recently.
The intros are looking good, hope all goes well with v2.0. We appreciate it!

Like many have already said, thanks so much for getting back into the swing of things JJ. I was always a little disappointed with a few of the later films, as I felt they cut a bit too much at times from the source. Specifically with HBP.

JJPotter,
I’ve read through all the posts and first off I’d like to say I understand. As others have said there are people out there that will take what they want and not care. While I never got to appreciate your work I see others have. Keep your chin up and whatever you decide to do there are loads of people that will support you.

Thanks for the feedback on the intros. Since I’ve gotten lots of negative responses about them, I’ll be pulling them and looking for other options.

JJ, if you like them stick with them. These should be for your enjoyment. Sorry, I just should-ed all over that.

Hoping to see those JJ style potter/marvel movie intros in future releases, its what makes the edits unique.
Plus an added surround sound track will be a big benfit…

I was going to say they are already 5.1, but I just checked and you’re right.

I wouldn’t object to an AAC 5.1 track and it wouldn’t impact the files size too much.

Wasn’t there a problem exporting multi-channel sound from his editing software in surround though.

Since what I had planned on being a v1.7 release was ruined by someone else, I have taken time away from the community for a while. Recently I found the spark to start editing again and have decided to work toward a v2.0 release at some point in the future. I don’t know when that will be exactly, so don’t get too overly excited or ask me for previous versions. I will make my edits available again once I have completed the edits that I want to make and have found a new way to release them.

As a teaser, I have completed new intros for my releases. In my playlist, I also include intros for Philosopher’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets. Those will not be released publicly. While I made my own edits of those films, they are different enough from the officially released extended editions.

Finally, the HP Extended Editions shields are being retired and are now replaced with WW Extended Editions shields for “Wizarding World”.

Hey, JJ! Can I ask you a technical question? How were you able to remove the music in some of the deleted scenes when they’re in Stereo? A great example is the scene with Umbridge forming the idea of the Inquisitorial Squad as she watches Malfoy, Crabbe and Goyle bully a student. The music that plays during the scene in the bonus features is “Professor Umbridge,” and you were able to re-score it with “The Room of Requirement.” How were you able to do that with only Stereo audio?

I wonder the same thing. Usually it’s easy to do when you have a 7 channel audio file but with Harry Potter I can only find 2 channel files so I wonder how he did it!

Btw glad to see you back JJ! Your edits are the definitive editions for me.

Good to see you back mate 😃 those new intros look amazing. Are you going for the colour corrected approach on the films again?

Hi JJ, just wanted you to know I’m glad you’re back. As for the intros, they’re simply astonishing, but I’d separate the Harry Potter world from Fantastic Beasts, which I feel as a separate story. Anyway, they look long way better than the older versions, and I feel they’re the most suitable to hype the v2.0 release.
Still, don’t feel forced to please the community, just do it your way.
Can’t wait to see more…

I would really enjoy seeing these versions of the films and I own all of them on blu-ray…may I please get the download link?

I am very happy to read more work is being done on these films. These edits are a wonderful addition to my HP library and have been my go to versions when the potter mood strikes. I’m hoping 5.1 versions, or stereo versions where the dialogue is boosted slightly for the extended cuts of 7 and 8 are available someday. At that point they will most certainly replace the studio versions for me. I truly appreciate you for sharing your work with the fan community and hope your efforts are available in the future. They make wonderful films just that much more enjoyable! Cheers!!

JJ!!! Beyond excited to have you back. Been checking this forum every so often with a morsel of hope in my heart, and I literally jumped with joy when I read your return post. You’re a legend, and I can’t wait to see what you’re up to. ❤️

Hi, well, I’m a bit late to this topic, but does anyone still keep the SRT caption files? Cause English is not my native language so I might need the captions for all the films. Thank you guys!! ❤️

JJpotter,

I just went and watched the new intros and I have to say I’m impressed! I’m just a fan of the movies and love it when there’s more that can be done/added to bring a more comprehensive story to life…movies will never be able to incorporate every aspect of the books, but when they edit out parts of the story for the sake of screen time…my opinion is the movie loses something! I felt that way with the Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Hobbit trilogy, and then again when I watched the ABC family versions of the Harry Potter movies…it just changes the experience in my humble opinion! But you just do you and please keep me in mind when you finally release your fan edit! Thanks for what you’re doing!

Cheers!

Here’s something really interesting that I found out about the SyFy extended version of Order of the Phoenix. The deleted scene of the Slytherins bullying a first year uses an extended piece of The Room of Requirement piece of music that does not show up on any soundtrack release.

So, here’s an idea.
The current version of Order doesn’t restore the “Trelawney during Umbridge’s speech” scenes.
However, I once saw a (much lower quality) fan edit that did in fact restore it.
It combined both the official Umbridge scene with the deleted Trelawney scene, by alternating between the two characters.

From what I remember, it looked decent, and could work in this fan edit.

I could trim out that scene to demonstrate it, if anyone wants to see.

The intro’s look amazing,I’m really excited to see what is to come, I’m new here but from searching online I found your edits on a website and was able to watch movies 3,4,and 5. Sorry to hear that they were stolen and uploaded without your permission. After watching I searched for jjpotter(originally was just looking up “Harry Potter extended versions”) which is how I found this page, sucks that you had to take them down but I understand why you did it. I can’t wait to see any future edits though, I really did enjoy the ones I watched. Thank you for sharing.
