The shot where Ben Solo arrives on Exogol and the camera reveals an Imperial TIE next to a Rebel X-wing.

One of these has a hyperdrive

I guess I’m just a miserable killjoy who sees a short range fighter without a Hyperdrive and wonders how the hell it got halfway across the galaxy.

Should have been a later model. Also the markings on the X-Wing don’t match the OT and the helmet Rey wears looks weird.

Uhhhh on topic… I enjoy the Kimiji sequences both the way it all looks, the John Williams cameo, and the Force Link Duel.

When Rey discovers the extent of her force strength as she destroys the ship. I loved that moment in the cinema.

I mostly edit and mix sound, mostly.

Similar to TLJ, the cinematography was incredible. It didn’t make up for the poor plotting, but it was very nice to look at.

Well, outside of the Sith Seizure planet.

The movie has an overarching theme of the importance of heroes, and the power that one selfless act has to inspire others.

After Rey force-heals the serpent, she says to BB-8 “I just transferred a bit of life from me to him. You would have done the same.” Then, when BB-8 finds D-0, he transfers him a bit of energy, allowing D-0 to power up and, later, to provide key information about Exegol. So Rey’s good deed inspires another good deed, which leads to an even greater good being done for the galaxy.

Also, just as Anakin sacrificed himself to save someone, all of his descendants ended up doing the same:

  • Luke sacrificed himself to save the Resistance
  • Leia sacrificed herself to save Ben
  • Ben sacrificed himself to save Rey
  • Threepio sacrificed his memories to save the galaxy.

That’s why I love Hal’s “For Skywalker” scene: It takes that idea even further.

You’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Am I making Carrie Fisher’s ghost proud?”
Well, are ya, punk?

Did they force heal Luke’s X-wing?
I just had to suspend disbelief and not think about stuff like the ship being under water for 30 years. Or his door being made out of parts of the X-wing. The door Chewie tears off its hinges.
Or Anakin’s Saber magically being made whole again.

I still really enjoyed the movie.

Those things are meant to withstand the vacuum of space. Being underwater a few years can’t be good for it, but it’s not impossible it could make the trip.

Huh. I had to go back and check, but it definitely has markings on it which match the back of the wing, and when it hits the wall of the hut a panel pops out.

The only way I would believe that ship would fly again is if Poe got his hands on it.

He can fly anything.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Apparently according to the novelization Rey repaired the ship from parts of the TIE Fighter.

“Heroes come in all sizes, and you don’t have to be a giant hero. You can be a very small hero. It’s just as important to understand that accepting self-responsibility for the things you do, having good manners, caring about other people - these are heroic acts. Everybody has the choice of being a hero or not being a hero every day of their lives.” - George Lucas

Also, I don’t think Luke was on Ahch-To for 30 years.

What lovely symbolism, too bad it’s not in the movie…

Luke lifting the X-Wing and the musical accompaniment. It’s a nice inversion to having sunk it as seen in TLJ, itself a nod to the “can’t do it” attitude in ESB. Not to mention the wonderful friendship motif that precedes Yoda’s theme in the scene.

My stance on revising fan edits.

I liked that they gave Carrie Fisher’s Leia prominence in the film. That she trained Rey. That it was kind of her film as much as it was Daisy Ridley’s film. All of the original characters were actually treated with reverence and respect in the rise of skywalker. Everything was neatly tied up and the saga is complete. As it was in 1983, and in 2005.

Unfortunately. The movie could use some quieter moments.

Seeing the Death Star II again was pretty cool. It’s not even nostalgia for a better movie, it feels like going to Rome and seeing the Colosseum and knowing all the history behind it, and knowing it’s the very same Colosseum that Vespasian built two thousand years ago.

I don’t know if I LOVE it, but I just noticed that Kylo Ren echoes something from TLJ.

As he was about to kill Snoke, he says, “I know what I have to do.” Then, he echoes this when telling Rey she has to join him in killing the Emperor. “You know what you have to do.”
