it was done last minute, so no.

Why does Star Wars always have to end this way?
I mean, most of us still dig RotJ, but can’t deny that aspects were rushed & the film is hurt because of it.
RotS is an obvious rushed attempt to cram in what should’a been spread across all 3 films.
The PT & ST’s both should’a had a much better plan laid out before film rolled. Why fly by the seat of yer pants with such a HUGE franchise? Why not take comfort in knowing you have a solid plan before going into production?

You just proved that the way the ST was finished very much matches how George probably would have ended up doing it. He did have a script that he broke into 3 to make the original film, but he never followed that original plan. For the PT he and all of us knew that it would end with Darth Vader, but as you point out, the way he did it felt rushed. I thought AOTC and ROTS were far faster paced and felt more rushed than TROS. I guess it is kind of a story template at this point. I hope they drop it for any future movies.

I don’t know why Snoke couldn’t have made a reappearance in Ep IX. The Snoke in Ep VIII could’ve been a clone, with the original hidden until the next chapter.

I didn’t like the Emperor in the prequels. The acting was OTT. Ian McDiarmid was more subtle in Ep IX. Better make-up too.

I want to note that the team has gathered a good one that loves the franchise and understands it, unlike the other team, which openly hated Luke and that is why they wrote such a character for the film.

What in the movie itself? Like Palpatine is spending his free time watching sports on TV?

Since Exegol is a whole planet, it stands to reason that it has its own sports team. He could have been watching it in person.

Why else did they build that stadium?

Oh that’s not much of a race track. Probably just where he gives evil TED talks.

If they had revealed he was alive at the end of TLJ, maybe it would have worked.

I don’t think it works because it undermines everything Anakin did of bringing Balance to the Force. I really wonder who “Uber” was in George’s treatments.

I think Snoke had the perfect set up to return in Episode IX and even be Plagueis. Especially as he told Kylo “You wonder why I keep such a rabid cur in such a place of power, a cur’s weakness properly manipulated can be a sharp tool.” He easily could’ve had himself “killed” to take himself out of the conflict as it divides the First Order further as Kylo and Hux clearly don’t know how to lead and with the Resistance already weakened it opens the door for him to invade the galaxy with the Knights of Ren, his army he was building up during the events of the PT and OT. All while searching for the secrets to immorality and perhaps the essence of Rey and Kylo could be that key as she’s the Light to Kylo’s Dark and together they must defeat him. You could even have him declare he and Palpatine created the Empire as a partnership after influencing a Jedi master to create a clone army all those years ago.

It even gives Finn the chance to lead a stormtrooper revolt.

The First Order and Resistance versus the Knights of Ren.

This ultimately keeps everyone’s legacy in tact yet adding the final layer of giving everyone a part to play in the final battle and defeating the ultimate bigger fish!

“Heroes come in all sizes, and you don’t have to be a giant hero. You can be a very small hero. It’s just as important to understand that accepting self-responsibility for the things you do, having good manners, caring about other people - these are heroic acts. Everybody has the choice of being a hero or not being a hero every day of their lives.” - George Lucas

I think it was absolutely essential the Saga conclude with him as it’s pretty much his story. Without Palpatine, this whole trilogy would feel like an unnecessary epilogue rather than a natural continuation and true conclusion.

Now of course the way his return was handled was carelessly sloppy. He should’ve been set up in TLJ and maybe even TFA, and should’ve clearly explained in TRoS that he is in his original body, and that he simply survived the Death Star. I don’t like the idea of him having died and returning as a clone.

I know most people say him surviving negates Vader’s sacrifice, but really, it’s about saving what we love, not killing what we hate. Vader saved Luke from Palpatine, not to mention putting the latter out of order for a good thirty years. Sure, he may not have completely finished him off, but he still did a damn good job.

Oh and Snoke being Plagueis would be dumb. Shoulda just been Palpatine’s apprentice, end of story.

If they had revealed he was alive at the end of TLJ, maybe it would have worked.

This.

If Darth Vader shouldn’t be space jesus I don’t think the emperor should have been space Voldemort who keeps coming back. I was fine enough with a Skywalker Sith lord with his wannabe ex Jedi anarchists, to me that would have been a fine evolution, we killed the big bad but there are still problems!

Course as everyone already said execution is everything, if I had the choice between an underdeveloped Palpatine or underdeveloped First Order I’d lose the order.

Remember how in TFA, Snoke’s hologram is giant? Imagine if that wasn’t just a hologram, and Snoke was actually that big. Good luck recycling Palpatine and RotJ’s ending with a villain like that.

Giga Snoke would have saved this trilogy before it was even in trouble.

Climactic battle of the trilogy is Rey piloting a giant robot and punching Snokezilla into oblivion.

Hahhahaaha

I’m dead😭

Edit: On a more serious note, If Palpatine was something set up in TFA I would say Anakin’s ghost must also have some kind of role in the trilogy.

I’ll say it again, I would’ve liked a reflection and meditation on how to rebuild Germany and reconcile the population while purging the bad after WWII and dealing with the shadow Hitler left. What I got was the return of mecha-zombie-Hitler decades later to destroy the world as revenge.

My stance on revising fan edits.

It was lazy and desperate. Not that the introduction and immediate dispatching of Snoke wasn’t mishandled, but literally anything would have been more interesting. And yet he was the most entertaining part of the film.

Babu Frik was the most entertaining part of the film.

And then Threepio.

And then Palpatine.

It’s so clear as a through-line to the saga as well.

Prequels: The dysfunction which leads to tragedy.

Originals: The horror which leads to Rebellion.

Sequels: The wisdom which leads to peace.

Except that the sequels chose to retrench instead of move forward.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

I guess they felt that you after defeating Hitler, David Duke is an anti-climactic big bad.

Anyway, I find it interesting that while Dark Empire says that Sidious learned how to Essence Transfer from the Tedryn Holocron sometime after ROTS and the Plagueis novel says the Banites lost the knowledge of Essence Transfer as a result of Darth Gravid and that Plagueis wasn’t interested in Essence Transfer, the Rise of Skywalker novelization makes it sound like Plagueis taught Essence Transfer to Sidious.

It makes sense even if it was lazy. I assume that was what all the discussions JJ had with George Lucas and midichlorians was about. A way to tip the hat to Revenge of the Sith as a reason to why he survived. When it really was them ripping off Dark Empire.
