Wow, that would’ve been amazing. Honestly, can you imagine the two of the collabing the whole trilogy? So that way instead of a Sandwich trilogy, we get a consistent compromise.
But it’s a callback to a callback, and it was kind of a minor miracle that first callback even worked in the first place. By all rights, it shouldn’t have (and wasn’t supposed to!) I do think the fact Homestead in the proper key as the music it’s surrounded by in TFA helps. But this usage of it isn’t very appropriate thematically or tonally. Or even musically - it’s discordant.

I don’t see your problem with it, Broom Kid. It sounds natural to me, not jarring at all. Maybe the end of the piece could be blended a little better, but beyond that it’s probably the best choice for the scene.

I don’t disagree. Any uses of the Force theme come to mind to try? It should be accompanied by something afterward, like Burning Homestead has that deus irae part leading up to the Death Star motif.
Hal9000…I was wondering, do you plan on using the added force ghosts “I am all the Jedi” ending with yoda, Obi-Wan, Luke and Anakin? The work done there is amazing.
I ask because not only do we hear Hayden’s voice in TROS but the ghosts moment contains Hayden as Anakin, but your cut for ROTJ reinstates Sebastian Shaw. I grew up with Shaw and I completely understand why you put him back but but would you consider doing a separate optional ending for ROTJ that includes Hayden? Much like Rey Nobody or Rey Skywalker cuts…I don’t like the 2004 SE moment as much but for the sake of the overall Saga continuity, we know Hayden as Anakin and he is in his late 40s and not his 70s. perhaps add extra work on his appearance/eyeline for improvement?
Your Star Wars edits are primarily tweaks for overall continuity and SE redundancies and are as close to perfection, to me, as one can hope to achieve, but in my opinion, having an option for Hayden helps towards overall continuity in the 9 part.

Yes, I am using jonh’s awesome work for the ghost scene in TROS.
But I won’t be adding Hayden to ROTJ. It just doesn’t feel appropriate for the movie, but feel free to take my version and edit him in yourself.

(ROTS) Battle Over Coruscant: 2:00 to 2:27
(ROTS) Anakin Vs. Obi-Wan: 4:03 to 4:30-ish
(ROTS) Battle of the Heroes: 1:58 to 2:13
I think they’re all pretty solid and could work well, but my personal favorite is The Tide Turns. It’s from the scene where Anakin destroys the Trade Federation control ship, although it’s used again in ROTS when he and Obi-Wan land the Invisible Hand on Coruscant, so it might feel overplayed. But I think they’re all good candidates if you’re looking to replace Burning Homestead. It does feel like a callback to something we JUST saw after all.
Ok that’s a fair enough point and I do agree. I was thinking for overall Saga continuity, but I fully respect your decision. You’re never gonna please everybody with every decision you make but I’ve loved all your cuts so far so I’m not complaining.

Since the canon, timeline and now real-life support Anakin’s ghost looking like Hayden, maybe one in an alternative ROTJ edit could replace the 2004 Hayden footage which is not that good tbh, and replace him with an aged-up (forty-somethings) Hayden hopefully with less creepy expression.
It’d be interesting to have Shaw in the TROS Force ghosts scene though usable footage of him would be harder to find than a sequel film that doesn’t retcon the previous one 😄.
Regarding the music at the ghosts scene, my favorite option would be keeping Burning Homestead, and retroactively rescore TFA’s lightsaber moment.
The Tide Turns is one of my favorite tracks from the prequel trilogy, but I think a slowed down version of it would fit better when Rey defeats Sidious with the help of the ghosts, rather than the revelation of them.
I’d love it if Jonh made a version with just the skywalker ghosts standing behind Rey. Anakin, Luke and Leia.

If we’re to have Ben Solo die, I think the best way to go about it would be to have him heal Rey and die while Palpatine is busy turning the fleet into a BBQ. We have the force ghosts appear like normal but when Rey is about to ignite the second lightsaber, Ben Solo’s force ghost appears with his hand reached out just like the rest, ending Sidious with a final blow.
Later he would appear with Luke, Leia ( and maybe Han’s) ghosts on Tatooine.

I think kewlfish did a nice job with that aspect, at least for a mockup. You’re right though, the background would have to be blurred a little and the lighting would have to match Palpatine’s Lightning.

I personally think the Best Way to introduce Bens spirit would be doing that in the novelization Way, i mean, by the ghost saying something like “I will always be with you” blah blah. But we would need someone to make a decent dub of it.

I hate to say it, but I don’t think any of those quite feel appropriate. They’re either too whimsical and not battle-y enough, or heavily choral in a way more befitting the prequels. Ugh.

It might not be so bad to just put the unused music in TFA instead. I wouldn’t have to do a new render, just audio and remux, and then distribute. If I go that route, I would probably wait for TROS to be completed just to make sure there’s nothing else to do.
If I can tonight, or whenever, I’ll mock it up to make sure it doesn’t, y’know, ruin the TFA moment or anything.
Was it decided to remove Palps line regarding “Final word in the story of rebellion?” I know with the music in Jonh’s clip it made sense to remove the line and instead do the Force Ghosts, but it is a good line IMO.

After being beaten and battered by prequel hate, I promise not to be that to the next generation.
It doesn’t fit with the music to keep it in, this or any other musical piece that was considered.
I think it’s fine to keep the Burning Homestead cue. It’s perfect in the moment. None of the other alternatives pack the right punch for that scene.
