I think this works pretty well! Good idea, RogueLeader!
Good … good …
This is shaping up very nicely!
“Because you are a PalpaWalker?”
Wow, those work better than I expected!
It would be cool if we added some voice effect to the line, “We will be one” as if we’re hearing voices of the past Sith collectively speaking through him. Same for when he says, “as all the Sith live in me.” And maybe that could continue once he drains their energy and reforms.
✋ I’d be happy to volunteer for experimenting with this idea
If it can be a dead ringer for the effect in ROTS, that’d be an interesting way to telegraph some significance to it. I guess in important moments, and/or by choice, the collective Sith consciousness can have an augmented voice.
One unfortunate real-world concern I have as someone who has lots of experience trying to have something correspond seamlessly to the source audio, it is slightly risky to add that effect only to dialogue that wasn’t there originally, as you’d be doing about the opposite of what would normally be desirable. Maybe that’s not the important thing to be mindful of, but I can’t help it.
Let me post the stems of the audio as I’ve got it, and the stems of the two scenes as they were. (I had to add the center channel to the left and right channels for the Kylo scene because the two scenes were formatted differently. For most of that scene, Palpatine’s voice is clearer and louder in the left and right channels than the center. (Probably won’t be until tomorrow.)
I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

Usually I try to have audio taken from elsewhere sound as close as possible to what it is there to replace. Adding an effect only to added dialogue is a bold move.
Doesn’t matter if it feels like it was there all along, but the savvy audience member may mistake your effort as a failure to tame audio culled from elsewhere.

Like with anything, I’d gratefully consider anything, using it only if I really do feel it’s a better way to go.

Here’s that audio if you’d like to try it. I’ve included my final mix of the Kylo scene, the original Kylo scene, and the Rey scene the dialogue comes from to begin with.
The two Kylo scene audios are both synced to begin at the same point, though they differ once the change occurs and end at different arbitrary points.

How do you feel about the voices given to the Knights of Ren that someone posted in the thread a few pages back, Hal?
The name’s Lawson. Noah Lawson.
Hard to say. I don’t think it’s at all necessary, but if the final product is good and I can pick and choose what to include, culling two or three lines to give them could be fun.

We’re actually getting a few people together to do new takes/lines for the KoR, I’ll post updates in this thread and then will drop them here when they’re finalized.
Fantastic!

Hal, if you have any kind of ‘waiting list’ for people to preview the earliest version of this edit to give feedback once you’ve exported it… count me interested. I certainly have the time.
The time is not yet right, but of course!

There is some exciting progress going on here. Just one thing concerns me - there seems to be talk of re-assigning the opening scene to Coruscant (instead of Mustafar). But, I thought Coruscant was a planet entirely covered by city. Seems like the fight in the forest scene wouldn’t make sense for Coruscant.
in the edition that we are doing of coruscant, there is no fight, kylo enters the jedi temple and finds the wayfinder there

I see, thanks for clearing that up for me. (there’s a lot to keep up with in this thread!)
As crazy as it sounds, maybe Kylo Ren slaughter in the Forest could be reused then as Endor? The fire could be explained as l, u know, battle field, FO slaughtering 🤷♂️ or Just a flashback. Damn, this sequence is Just too cool to be cut 😅
Preferred saga:
EI (DVD version) • EII (Blu-Ray) • CW (DVD) • TCW (smudger9’s fanedit) • ROTS (Octorox’s Extended version) •RO, Solo (originals) • Andor (smudger9’s episode I and EddieDean’s ep. 3-4) • OT (2004’s DVD) • Mando (s01: smudger9’s fanedit, s02: original) • TBOBF (smudger9’s) • TFA, TLJ (originals) • TROS - HAL’s edit

ACTUALLY…that’s not a bad idea…for a Force Awakens edit.
Originally, Kylo “Jedi Killer” Ren was going to have a scene where he raided Vader’s funeral pyre.
In fact that’s probably the inspiration for the Sith Wayfinder scene.

I’m not good enough at rotoscoping, but I wanted to recolour it to be on Starkiller Base after his fight with Rey. Then it could lead into him finding the Wayfinder there, and heading to Exegol as the end of the film’s cliffhanger.
That’s an interesting idea to actually have Kylo retrieve the Wayfinder from the Jedi Temple in a fan edit.
I will try to be honest with myself and you all in deciding whether to use it or Mustafar. I like the sound of Mustafar better, so I don’t relish the thought of turning down something awesome…
But, again, if not mine, other edits will certainly be better off for it.

Here’s a test of the ending, with pretty much everything except for a ghost for Ben.
Unfortunately the music used comes in right on the heel of a bombastic conclusion to the Resistance theme, so it’s a shame it can’t be a bit more teasing and gradual as it comes in like the original scene’s music.
It’s still synced to the original, so it’s be easy to ditch in favor of the original.

Simply wonderful.
Rey’s theme (with a bit of Force’s) fits so much better than the recycled original version.
Had the original ended like that, I would have left the theater much more satisfied.

Incredible…so good!
That line delivery of Rey Skywalker is so much better and more meaningful. I would’ve bought that in the theater. I would suggest maybe pulling the end credits music up a little earlier, seems like it starts just a little bit too late. Also maybe just leave it without music until the 0:44 second mark if possible. The silence could be a little more impactful and the music builds as Rey moves on to her next journey with the crew.
The Star Wars Saga:
I · II · III · IV · V · VI · VII · VIII · IX | Rogue One · Solo
What was first just a dream has become a frightening reality…
Hmm, while that would bypass what made the music desirable (the interplay between the Force/Luke’s Theme and Rey’s Theme), I could definitely try that and see how it plays.
And I could try moving up the credits audio, or push back the iris, whichever is easier.
