when I watched the movie I thought it was a missed opportunity to not have 3po mention Anakin after the memory re-wipe, but I don’t if there was something I missed for him not doing it

I thought this too. It could be great if the dialogue could be changed to something along the lines of
‘Artoo, have you heard? I’m going with Master Anakin on a very important mission’

I think that’s a fantastic idea, and could probably be done by just switching mistress rey to master Anakin

Darth Sadifous suggested making the fluid red when first discussing this idea, and as soon as I tried it I liked it. It brings color contrast to the scene, it feels a little more Palpatine to me, and I found the green vats a bit cliche. I could try the green, though, if that’s what people prefer!

Great job! This was what I had in mind and the updates since then are even better. The red bacta was also originally intended in TESB and matches adywan’s fan edit when he reinstated the original color. It really came out well; you are an editing god!

@poppasketti I am digging the vats! The red all the way. This is exactly what I was hoping for. Very nice.

“Because you are a PalpaWalker?”

This doesn’t make sense to me. If his memory is wiped, he wouldn’t remember anything. Does your computer remember your username and password when you reformat the hard drive? Of course not.

This is right after R2 restores a backup.

Might be a little weird. Makes it seem like his post-ROTS memories are gone, yet he references ‘Master Luke’ a moment or two later.

I really like the idea that R2 has to talk to him, telling him his stories and so forth. But that’s probably outside the realm of fan editing.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Yeah that’s the big problem I have with it.

Maybe Threepio’s dialogue could be altered so that he says “a Master Luke” instead of “Master Luke”?

Yeah that sound good, a big problem I had with the movie was a lack of consequence for 3pos death (memory wipe)

@Poppasketti, since you are a wizard… did you want to try taking a stab at fixing Luke’s weird reshoot hair during the Anch-To scenes?

The Skywalker Saga:

This is the way.

Changing someone’s hair in motion like that would actually be extremely difficult, and I think anything I came up with would probably look worse!

Marilyn or Charles? 😛

I noticed the reshoot wig immediately when I first saw the movie. With a $200 million budget, you’d think they could afford a decent wig.

Yeah, Luke looks like he got longer hair and wider since becoming a force ghost in TRoS.

Hi everyone!

I saw this, this morning.

I’ve been out the loop for a bit so I’m not sure what the current feeling is on the ‘Rey Skywalker’ moment at the end of the movie.

However this definitely seems to approve the overall ‘awkwardness’ of the exchange, so I thought I’d share it to see if doing something similar was of interest?

It’s an improvement, but damn that scene gets worse each time I see it. Every moment feels either subtly or explicitly wrong.

Why is Rey going to the homestead?
Why is BB-8 acting like it belongs to Rey instead of Poe?
Why is Rey riding down the sand like it’s a treasured childhood memory instead of a reminder of her painful past?
Why does Rey go down into the empty house at all if she goes back outside to bury the sabers?
Why does Rey bury the sabers?
Why does she activate her own saber and look at it? Does she just like admiring her own work that much?
Why does a woman suddenly appear in a place where ‘there has been nobody for so long’, and ask about Rey’s last name? Were the Lars family her friends? If so how would Rey’s Skywalker pronouncement mean anything to her?
Why do Luke and Leia appear to her in this moment and not Ben?
Why does Rey turn away from the old woman, who clearly wants to talk to someone, to go stare at the binary sunrise?

Sorry if this comes off like a CinemaSins rant, in most films a lot of this would be nitpicky, but here every moment oozes fanservice instead of in-character or even in-universe motivation and I really wish there was a way to replace this scene altogether. I mean, even the Binary Sunset copycat closer from ROTS felt more compelling than this.

I think at minimum Rey should leave the question of ‘Rey who’ unanswered, but Hal, something drastic needs to be done with the end of this movie.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

This ending is shallow, depressing, anti-climactic, clumsy and another thousand adjectives.
Her story went nowhere, ending exactly where it started, alone, sliding down the sand.

Ben Solo is the key.

Ugggghhhhh!!!

I remember reading the leaks for that end scene and it said something like:

Rey goes to the Lars homestead alone in the final scene, she uses pieces of Luke and Leia’s lightsabers to merge together into her own yellow one, then buries the remaining pieces. A moisture farmer, (never specified whether they’re male or female) approaches and says “What’s your name?” Rey says “I am Rey, Rey Skywalker!” and then roll credits.

When I read this I was utterly dumbfounded at how ridiculously stupid it sounded but it was so dumb that I knew it had to be true.

When I saw it in cinemas I thought that the film was about to end when Rey, Poe and Finn embrace, then when it showed the Falcon flying over Tatooine I suddenly remembered what I had read and I was majorly pissed off.

Needless to say, I wholeheartedly believe that while I still enjoyed a decent amount of this film, this final scene is without a doubt in my opinion, the all time worst scene of any Star Wars film.

One thought I had recently regarding the Force ghost Ben angle, why not just Ben and Leia? That way it focuses on them finally reunited, and we don’t have to debate whether Anakin should be involved with this Skywalker family get together.
