I would like to reccomend a film I saw the other day.

War of the Arrows Korean film from 2011. I thought it was a good film well worth a watch. Comes highly reccomended.

The Twilight Samurai also is a good film bit more of a slow burn charcter based film but worth your time.

Watched Paths of Glory with the commentary. Ebert said that 99 out of 100 directors would give the falsely accused a reprieve, but not Kubrick.

Lawrence of Arabia. This is what an epic should be. I loved the cinematography and Peter O’Toole’s performance. I watched it on the Criterion CAV Laserdisc.

Pleased to see that you enjoyed Doctor Sleep, Duracell. I was very pleasantly surprised by it. (I also watched the DC.)

Knives Out (2019)
Didn’t like it. The previews made it out to be a very different movie. It looked like a fun “who did it? It could be anybody!” type a thing. It is not.
The killer is revealed right away & I easily guessed the rest of the thin plot early on, then sat & watched as the movie & it’s goofy characters slowly proved me right with no payoff.
Do pass.

Vice, starring Christian Bale as Dick Cheney.

Saw it with my father who was very interested in the movie because he worked in Halliburton for several years and he got to personally meet with Dick Cheney a few times. After we were finished watching the movie I asked him how accurate did he find this portrayal of Cheney compared to the Cheney he knew and he said it’s a pretty accurate portrayal. I later found out that Cheney himself saw the movie and didn’t like it, and when I told my dad his reply was “I’m not surprised.”

Clownhouse (1989)

The disturbing thing about this film is that this guy, the director, molested the 12 year old boy who starred in it and VIDEOTAPED IT!!!

That’s just sick. Where I’m from we don’t tolerate that kind of thing and yet he still went on to make films.

Yeah, I remember him. He later directed the movie Powder, the one about the albino boy with supernatural powers. Because of his participation in the movie I’m disappointed with Jeff Goldblum, one of my all-time favourite actors. Oh well, I guess nobody’s perfect.

That’s the Jeepers Creepers guy, ain’t it?

Guy looks like an anthropomorphic greasy turd.

Why are you disappointed with Jeff Goldblum?? How would he have known?

Powder was made about six years after Clownhouse, so Goldblum had plenty of time to learn about it.

I recall the controversy. Remember this was pre internet, and it was possible for someone’s criminal record to be hushed up. IIRC, some actors in the film were on record as having not a clue about the director’s history. People higher up in the studio food chain probably did know their criminal history.

And they did do prison time for their crimes. Roman Polanski has never answered for the things he’s accused of doing and many in the industry have worked with him since.

What amazes me the most is that even after his dirty deed became public knowledge he’s still getting steady employment as a director.
