Currently working through a marathon of Peaky Blinders on BBC Four (9.5 out of 10).

This week, I finished watching the Clooney helmed adaptation of Catch-22. I haven’t read the novel but I’m aware that the series has come under fire for significant deviations and omissions from Heller’s work. Six episodes really wasn’t enough to do the characters and the extremely rich storyline justice but personally, I enjoyed it nonetheless and thought that the symbolism of the closing scene during the final episode was the perfect ending.

6.5 out of 10.

Night Gallery (Season 1)

Watched the pilot movie some years back, but only got around to checking out the series proper in the last couple weeks. I certainly loved the pilot — it’s right up there with The Twilight Zone in quality — but Season 1 itself is a mixed bag. Maybe I’ll check Seasons 2 & 3 out sometime. Maybe not.

SEASON’S RATING

I just finished watching the first season of Magnum PI (with Tom Selleck) - it had been a long time since the first viewing, and really enjoyed it. Obviously a little dated in some places, yet can’t knock the spirit, story and setting of it all.

The Expanse (Season 1)

Finally got around to checking this series out. With the endless Trek/Wars derivatives out there which play fast & loose with the laws of physics, it’s refreshing to see a more hard sci-fi direction for a change. I really got sick of looking at some characters, though, due to their stupid hairstyles (Tom Jane and Dominique Tipper, I’m looking at you two.) Make no mistake, though; I really did enjoy the season and will be continuing with the series.

Speaking of The Expanse, Season 4 just dropped on Amazon and I just finished episode 2. It’s still every bit as excellent!

Duracell, did you ever continue on with the series? (Naomi’s hairstyle is less ridiculous in Season 4, for what it’s worth.)

Watched the first three episodes of Season 2, then took a break. I plan on getting back into it eventually.

Interesting, because two more episodes and you would have finished the Book 1 story. Haha

The Witcher
I have watched one episode of “The Witcher,” and it seems like a YA version of “Game Of Thrones,” albeit heavier on magic and monsters.
I’m on the fence with this, and would appreciate comments from other OT members who have finished S01.
One song in particular drew me to the series and it has become stuck in my head, so some of you may want to beware.

I thought The Witcher was very good, not quite great. It took a while for me to get comfortable with the non-linear storytelling. I’ll probably watch the second season.

Author

Pretty much like Duracell says. I liked the fact that the nonlinear plot wasn’t clear until about halfway through the series, but I know that was a big point of confusion for some.

Bear in mind that season 1 is based on short stories that take place prior to the first proper book of the series, so the season is largely a prologue for the actual story (and once the plotlines converge by the end of the season, the story will be linear - or at least significantly more so - starting next season).

Thanks, guys.
I have the remaining Witcher episodes of S01, so I’ll probably watch.
Being based on a series of books tempts me more. Original series based on writing rooms, I shun.
Don’t know about Witcher S02 and beyond. Looking at Wiki, it appears the books have concluded.
Usually, I stick with shows one season, maybe two.
I watched all of Game Of Thrones, and God do I wish I hadn’t.

Season 2 of The Witcher starts filming next month.

And Game of Thrones suffered because they ran out of source material and started making up their own shit based on vague notes from the author. Witcher won’t have that problem, the book series is complete already.

Author
Time

Thank you for the Witcher comments.
I’m plugging along with it, still undecided whether to nudge into the YA shelf.
I’m also still fence sitting about Expanse S04.
The ending of S03 suited me, plus I already have piles of Euro series, K-dramas, J-doramas to view.
Never enough time.

Author
Time

Expanse S04 is very good, and S05 will be the best of them all if they stick reasonably close to the book. Can’t speak for beyond that as I’ve yet to finish book 6 or beyond.

Watched the first four episodes of Locke & Key on Netflix. It’s a bowdlerized shadow of the comic; I don’t recommend it.

Nice set design, though.

Netflix’s I Am Not Okay With This is excellent. Kinda like if John Hughes had made Carrie.

Been trying to remember the name of this to watch for a while now - cheers man. It has one of those titles that either stays with you, or you keep on forgetting (though probably just me! 😃)

The FE Renegades thread; from the people who post ‘go kill yourself’, ‘fuck you’, ‘let’s throw abuse’, and more at OT staff & members. Four years on and still throwing accusations, slurs and abuse at the OT & anyone outside their Salacious Crumb filled clique. + FE Discord “to vent” more at the OT. Wook’s take.

For everyone who’s into real science fiction with deep philosophical themes, check out Alex Garland’s Hulu/FX miniseries Devs. It’s absolutely fantastic and features a surprisingly great dramatic turn from Nick Offerman.

If you liked either of Garland’s films (Ex Machina and Annihilation), you’ll love Devs.

Stargate SG-1 (Season 1)

Cheap, derivative, full of filler, with only a few bright spots to alleviate the monotony. A case can be made that the series overall is better than the original movie, but this season alone absolutely isn’t.
