Re: the robes recoloring discussion from a bit back, what if Qui-Gon’s robes are brown and black, to mirror Anakin’s? Would be a subtle way to tie the two characters together, and ideally imply more strongly that Anakin has adopted Qui-Gon’s non-traditional and vaguely combative views of the Jedi order.

THIS! I WANT THIS!

Though, I personally would opt for the Jedi to have their robes consisting of shades of grey. But, alas, that’s just me.

I trying to make a more faster pace 3 in 1 edit with some major changes.

Quigon and Obiwan dont go to tatooine to repair the ship but to look for of the missing jedi master sifo dyas.

We get a mention of him in attack of the clones but i think introducing the clone project with Palpatine plan earlier would have been better.

Heres Plapatine ordering Maul to head to tatooine to kill Sifo Dyas.

Another scene is Anakin rank of jedi master. In the rots novel Anakin reason goes beyond of just feeling hes earned the title and the council doesn’t respect him. He wants to become a master and council member because they are allowed access to enter the holocron vault that contains ancient knowledge of past jedi. He believed there might have been something in the holocrons that could have helped him save Padame. So that was another wedge with the council members and another step closer to Palpatine.

I tried to convey that with a dream sequence before the jedi master scene of Yoda talking about how jedi of the past had ability to see visions of the future and how very few jedi have that ability now. cuts to Jacosta Nu (Clone wars dubbed) talking about the holocron vault cuts to Anakin getting put on the council from Palpatine cut to Padme dying cut to the jedi council scene where they deny him mastery.

These are some rough sketches so far.

The Sifo-Dyas idea is really cool.

In the roughs the extra exposition seems unnecessary and forced but the ideas are good, I’d try to find a way to establish it within the crawl.

I wonder how good it would look to deepfake “Tarkin” at the end of ROTS with Peter Cushing’s face?

Author

Considering how little screen-time Tarkin has in Episode III, and how small he is in the shot, I don’t know if it would work too well. It would be interesting to try.

Author

The small amount of screentime and size in shot would probably be a benefit though, since there is a potentially large library of Peter Cushing’s acting with which to train the AI for a brief shot with little to no emoting. enlarging the ROTS shot to place the deepfake and then shrinking it back down to normal would probably give more definition to the illusion.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

That’s what I was thinking. It is very brief, but it is hard to tell that it is actually Tarkin, so it may be an effective way to make it more obvious. Plus, it is practically one shot so it wouldn’t be as time consuming as doing a whole scene with a character with actual dialogue or something to that extent.

It’s funny how the Phantom Edit was known for “removing Jar Jar” even though it didn’t, but now we actually have the technology to do have the capability of doing just that.
What software are you using to do this, snooker?

I’m using probably the worst possible software to do this with lol.

I’m using Paint dot net to create clean background plates and Hitfilm express for all of my editing.

It’s pretty impressive work regardless of the software, though. So good job!

After Effects recently added this new tool called Content Aware-Fill that I think could potentially be of some use for a Jar Jar removal project. It is rather new, so still not perfect, but for the right kinds of shots the final product can be pretty great and could save you a lot of time.

yes this is what im using, in many cases i have to use photoshop to create custom mattes such as this though, still it works for wider shots

I like the JarJar removal 😃 But I’d keep him around on some scenes for continuity.

It’s good, but the shots feel framed really funny with all that static space.

I did notice that at first, but then, almost instantly, I got use to it. I like the wider shot. This looks great snooker! Can’t wait to see how Jar Jar is completely removed from TPM!

Yeah, the Content-aware fill thingy is by no means magic on it’s own. I’ve tried it on a handful of shots…some work pretty well, while others don’t at all. Definitely need to make custom mattes.

I don’t think it enhances Watto’s character or the story to think that his shop is small-feeling?

Could you not also apply some cycled noise/grain to blend the mask so it appears less static? Or depending on how confident you are in compositing maybe that side of the frame can be filled with some steam like the rest of the shop. Otherwise it’s near seamless and took me a moment on first two watches to even realize what you had done!

The problem is that you need Jar Jar getting into trouble to bring Anakin into the story.
So perhaps he might just wander off ?
He comes in to the shop normally, gets bored and goes out again.
When the scene is finished they come out and rejoin JarJar, movie goes as normal.
