I did try to explain on some of the comments on the facebook page that something is throwing off my regrade on the comparison shots that have a strong cyan tint in the blu-rays. Whether its something to do with how the site recompresses the video or what it was i don’t know. But the whites had a yellowish tint in places that is NOT on the files i’m working with.

Oh right my bad, I don’t use facebook tbh, so i had no idea that anything was posed there, but thanks for explaining it for me.

Gotta say adywan, one of the great joys of your REVISITED projects for me was seeing your re-graded colouration efforts for SW:R and ESB:R. And so it’s been really neat to see all the clip examples of your ongoing ROTJ:R and SW:RHD re-grading recently too. Things are already looking fabulous on this front.

I hope that you’ll keep getting the support you require for your extensive intentions for ROTJ:R, and I’ve added an update about your excellent ‘B-Wing pilots’ shoot etc. on the STAR WARS REVISITED thread over at Fanedit(.)org for those that might have missed what you’ve achieved since finishing ESB:R. (Such a shame having to scrap your marvellous cockpit set afterwards, but I guess you had to let mrs. adywan have her livingroom back at some point!) 😃

I’ve re-read your numerous planned ROTJ:R changes on page 1 and on the ‘RotJ:R Facts’ section of the REVISITED wordpress page recently, and they are going to dramatically transform the movie for the better eventually. I’ve still got lots of pages and suggestions to catch up with here at some point, but I see that Tantive3+1 and others seem to be giving you plenty of additional scrutiny to think about already. 😃

Which reminds me, what kind of system do you have for keeping track of some of the many suggestions offered around here and amongst the comments on your Facebook adywan? I mean, do you just try to remember anything you like from memory?, or do you take a note of them as you go along in a ‘Bible of ideas’ or ‘spreadsheet’ of some sort? Just curious.

Either way, you’re doing exceptional work on this again, and it’s gonna be fun to follow your progress once again.

The donation drive is going well. Thanks again to all who have contributed so far. We’re just over £1700 away from reaching the target. If we can hit the target by the end of this month, as a small thanks you, i will upload a clip of the redone Obi-Wan/ Vader duel from ANH:RHD

Now onto the first part in a short series of posts where i explain some of the changes i will be making for ROTJ:R.

In the scene in which the images below were taken, their dialogue , for one, doesn’t make much sense with what we see on screen. Leia says" The main entrance to the control bunker is the far side of that landing platform" This isn’t going to be easy". To which Han replies" Hey, don’t worry. Chewie and me got into a lot of places more heavily guarded than that". Well that wouldn’t be difficult because there is nothing or no one down there apart from the landing platform. And the only activity is the shuttle leaving. Which comes to the other problem. The scene directly before this is the scene at night when Luke faces Vader on the landing platform and is taken away to the shuttle. It’s the same landing platform and it makes it look like they were just sitting around in the shuttle for hours waiting for daylight.

It’s interesting though when you read this scene in the original novel (see picture below) .

"The Strike squad crouched down behind a woodsy ridge overlooking the Imperial outpost. Leia viewed the area through a small electronic scanner.

Two shuttles were being off-loaded on the landing platform. Several Walkers were parked nearby. Troops stood around, helped with construction, took watch, carried supplies. …"

Now that fits in perfectly with what they are saying on screen. Even though Han’s dialogue is slightly different, it’s still basically the same as in the film. This is the type of thing we should be seeing on screen at that point, so that is what i will be doing, using a mixture of physical models , miniature sets and digital FX. It’s going to be a heavily guarded place 😉

But Adywan, obviously the troopers are wearing perfect camouflage so you can’t see them!

Jokes aside adding some trooper and/or vehicles would be a great addition since it clearly isn’t heavily guarded per the conversation.

I am glad that the drive is going pretty well, I was very happy to contribute towards it and hope for some more to get this show on the road!

I feel like adding more of a ‘base’ would also enhance the effect. More buildings near/around the platform, maybe?

Are you still making a new Cargo Shuttle so Vader and the Emperor aren’t using the same ship as the “Parts and Technical Group”? I imagine if Vader lands in his fancy shuttle then the next shot is a Cargo Shuttle we won’t habe the “did they wait till morning to take off?” confusion.

This is great news!
I’ve always wished it was more clear that the AT-AT is docking with the landing platform. There’s some wrong perspectives out the corridor windows making it so that the ‘head’ is detached from the body.
I’ve pointed out how this all works to many people. Everyone always seems to think it’s cool when they realize you can see the inside of the AT-AT behind Luke and the guards.

Hey Adywan, I’m new to the website but have been a huge fan of Star Wars Revisited for a while now.
I was just wondering if your new shuttle design to replace the Tydirium (which is a great idea!) will be your own unique design or one directly taken from some other kind of Star Wars content?

Yes, he’s planning an all-new design, not the Zeta from Rogue or the Sentinal from ANHSE. My vote would be for the Sentinal as it already has a cockpit that could more easily match the on-set Lambda one.

Actually, now that you mention it, I would be very happy with a Zeta or a Sentinal, I don’t think I have a preference!

How long does this takes?
Couple of days, a week maybe, depending on travel distance

So basically nothing here suggests that months need to pass, yet alone a year or more.

Yoda right before Luke fights Vader: Luke! You must complete the training[…]Only a fully trained Jedi Knight with the Force as his ally will conquer Vader and his Emperor.

Yoda a few days later, after Luke gets his ass handed to him by Vader: No more training do you require. Already know you that which you need[…]One thing remains. Vader. You must…confront…Vader.

Sorry dude, but that makes no sense. Either Luke spent some time training on his own while he was busy working with the rebellion, making plans to free Han, and coping with the world-shattering revelation that his dad is Space Hitler…or Yoda has a bad case of Alzheimer’s.

Sorry dude, but what you say makes no sense at all.
If Luke had time to train, he would have gone back to Yoda. He did not.
Making plans? Really? This plan takes 5 minutes of thinking. Not months.
Busy? Really? With what? The most important thing for Luke was to learn to become a Jedi, and free Han.

Yoda was right that only a fully trained Jedi can defeat Vader. And Luke failed as expected.
But he learned a lot from his duel against Vader. He learned what he needed to defeat Vader.
So he was now ready.

We all know that Luke was not ready for the Emperor.
No one in his right mind can think that anyone can prepare against this kind of power on his own, when not even a fully trained Jedi knight. Even Jedi masters failed. And you think Yoda didn’t know that?
Yoda knew that the father-son factor could incline events in their favor.
This was their last hope.
So Yoda was merely trying to build up Luke’s confidence, and as we all know, the Jedi are pragmatic, so they are lying liars if that suits their agenda.

People need to except the fact, that many times, what the Jedi say is not the truth.

(sorry to derail) I think it all kind of cements Luke as being the fulfilled hope to the Jedi. Yoda has insight, and can see the possibilities that Luke will turn like Vader did. But Yoda also said it’s hard to determine if the visions are showing what is going to happen or could happen. Even when Luke rushed to save his friends, Yoda thought he was vulnerable and wouldn’t be able to resist that temptation. Luke seemed to despise the evil, instead of being tempted by it. To see this evil man, claim that he was his father, just pushed Luke over the edge (pun intended). Luke would’ve rather dropped to his death than face that truth.

I always considered his letting go, and falling as a suicide attempt. Might’ve been the will of the force that caused him to be pulled into the ventilation system, or pure luck. I don’t think Luke had anything to do with it. That moment where he was rescued by the crew of the falcon, he seems to have slowly accepted the truth. Even speaking to Vader, and then Ben through the force. This was a major turning point for Luke.

He’s wiser by ROTJ, but still has his final test ahead of him, with Vader and the Emperor. Luke might’ve came close during the Jedi duel, but I think he realized what his rage was turning him to. The symbolism between his mechanical hand, and Vader’s now severed mechanical hand.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

I was watching Plinketts TLJ review and he mentioned ROTJ being the first (and only?) movie where xwings and small spacecraft go into hyperspace on their own. Adywan, is this something you’ve considered altering in your version? I do like the idea of altering it so the smaller craft stay inside the cruisers while at lightspeed but don’t like the idea of having to alter John Williams score to make it work. This alteration would of course alter the arrival of the rebels at the death star too. At the very least, it’s an interesting topic.

It’s heavily implied at least in ESB that Luke uses a hyperdrive on his X-wing to get to and from Dagobah and Bespin, isn’t it?

I think it’s safe to assume that any planet not in the Hoth ‘solar system’ would take years to reach on sublight engines, so unless Hoth, Bespin, and Dagobah were all in the same solar system Luke would have to have had hyperdrive on his X-wing. My headcanon is that Bespin is in the same solar system as the planet with the rebel base, and this is actually referred to as the ‘6th planet of the Hoth system’ in the movie so both the rebel base and Bespin are technically in Hoth.

Even with the falcon using lightspeed it’s still portrayed as taking some time to get bespin…imo.

The Falcon’s hyperdrive was offline on their way to Bespin. That’s the reason they went there.

Going back to the original Star Wars. After they discover the remains of Alderaan they encounter a Tie Fighter. At first Luke thinks it followed them from Tatooine but Old Ben reassures him that Ties are short range fighters. Which insinuates that there are long range fighters.

And as has already been pointed out, Luke jumps from Hoth to Dagobah and then from Dagobah to Bespin all in the Empire Strikes Back.

NeverarGreat’s headcanon is reasonable. I think the official explanation is that the Falcon (and most ships) had a backup hyperdrive, designed only to get you (slowly) to an inhabited system for repairs.

My preferred explanation is that it’s a fairly dense area of space, such that systems are closer together than in our region, and that it still probably took several months to get to Bespin. This, of course, aligns with Luke needing more than a few days’ training with Yoda.

The question of hyperspace continuity is something that has interested me as well. But as it is often said among fans… in Star Wars, starships travel at the speed of plot.

I believe it is more appropriate to assume hyperspace allows for near instantaneous travel, rather than how early West End Games and further EU material came to the conclusion that it could take days to travel across the galaxy.

I take the scene in the original Star Wars where Luke is training with the remote in the Millennium Falcon as the best example of this. They just have jumped to hyperspace not long before, having left Tatooine on route to Alderaan. Han enters the room, having just left the cockpit, and says:

Well, you can forget your troubles with those Imperial slugs. I told you I’d outrun 'em… Don’t everyone thank me at once… Anyway, we should be at Alderaan about oh-two-hundred hours.

The way Han says this makes it sound like this is the first time they’ve spoke since they escaped Tatooine, so it can’t be that long after they jumped to hyperspace. Also, when Han says “oh-two-hundred hours”, he doesn’t literally mean 200 hours, he’s referring to military time, which would be about 2:00 AM (Galactic Standard Time in their case? Lol). That would appear to mean that it will take them, at the very most, less than 24 hours to arrive at Alderaan. This contradicts the EU explanation that it took them days to get to Alderaan.

But here is the kicker, at the end of the scene, Han reacts to an alarm and looks at some flashing lights on the nearby console. His last line of the scene is:

Looks like we’re coming up on Alderaan.

This is a three-minute scene. If you go off this scene alone, it definitely seems like the travel time between Tatooine to Alderaan took at most hours, and the very least, minutes! The idea that space travel takes days, at least on established hyperlanes, is a complete EU invention. You could try to explain it another way, but it would be a pretty hand-wavy explanation.

And I say this as someone who likes the idea that space travel takes some time! I think it is a nice rule to have in a sci fi universe, but Star Wars isn’t that kind of sci fi universe. Lucas was never concerned about hyperspace continuity.

So I believe trying to limit the ability for certain ships to use hyperspace is just going to create more narrative problems, especially since it is already implied Rebel fighters can travel at light speed (Rebel transport escorts escaping Hoth, Luke traveling to Dagobah and then Bespin, and the fighter escorts around the fleet in the final scene), and we actually see them jump to lightspeed in ROTJ. Long range fighters, like Tobar said.

Also, I’m pretty sure Ady showed those X-Wings escorting the transports jumping to hyperspace in ESB: Revisited, so not showing fighters in hyperspace in ROTJ would contradict that.

Hope you guys don’t mind the longer post! It is an interesting topic.
