Sorry, no. That is a line the users of this site cannot cross without risk of major copyright repercussions.

I’ve been quite happy with my Pioneer BDR-XD05S. I know it’s a chunk of change, but that’s the reality if you don’t know anyone from whom you could borrow one in real life.

I don’t know if this was brought up, but once Harmy finishes up a V3.0 of ANH, will you too revisit your Blu-ray edition? Like adding or fixing anything because I do have some notes, but I need your permission to proceed or if you want me to PM to you, whatever you want.

Solkap seems to be in charge of this now. If only because I haven’t seen NVC anywhere on OT.

LOL! I’m flattered!

ThiefCobbler4ever, I seem to remember NJVC posting somewhere that it was his intention to update the ISOs when 3.0 came around. I could be mistaken, though, since I’m not finding that post, but I did find this one. So I can’t say for sure.

If the set is updated, and if members here can help me with temporary file-locker links so I can bypass myspleen again, it is at least my intention to post the 3.0 versions.

But LordZerome1080, I’m really not in charge of anything. I’m nothing more than a humble distributor who wants to help out other fans such as myself. I’ve had zero contribution to actually producing anything Despecialized.

Good to know. Whoever’s in charge of this now, know I have some notes (adding some additional extras/trailers fixing/adding audio).

Let me know if they or anyone here is interested in hearing them. Thanks.

Does anyone know around when Harmy will be releasing 3.0 of the Original Trilogy? A couple of years ago, I had planned on waiting for 3.0 of all 3 films before downloading. But if it’s going to be another 2-3 years, then I may go ahead and download the latest now.

Just so this isn’t misstated, this isn’t about rushing for a 3.0 release. I was just interested in knowing so I can have an idea if I should keep waiting, or just download what’s available now. I know a year or so ago there were rumors that Disney was going to be doing a proper release, and so I had waited too hoping that was true. But looks like that isn’t going to happen.

Thanks

I don’t think there’s any sort of timeframe. Harmy hasn’t been around much recently, he’s probably been busy.

I’m looking forward to it. I just hope he doesn’t put all of the matte lines back in. As I really did enjoy the digital compositing on the Blu-Ray’s removing those bad matte lines all through the movie. Also removing the Emperor’s Slugs, etc.

That goes against the whole point of the project, though.

People have their own opinions on it. I think of “Despecialized” by removing the CGI and correcting the edit, etc. isn’t the same thing as putting the matte lines back in that have been removed because the elements/paintings were later digitally composited which caused there to be no matte lines anymore.

Also, some of the matte lines didn’t even show up in the theater, but showed up on the home video release.

Well, since Harmy has gone to great lengths to restore “mistakes” like matte lines in the past, I think it’s safe to say he’ll be continuing down that road.

Hey thanks for the great effort!
Just a quick question, are there any case artworks done for the 25GB versions?
Thanks!

Author

I just happened to answer that same question recently. I will post my answer again here:

I don’t know if there are are any designs meant specifically for a set using the 25GB discs. But I’ve had success playing around with the disc and cover designs already posted using other various artwork from this site, plus stuff you can find on fanart.tv. You can then use Gnu Image Manipulation Program (GIMP, which is free), to create your own homebrew covers and disc art if you don’t find any to your liking. Take a spin around the fan art section of this site and you’re sure to find lots of ideas.

Okay, thanks!
I will try to adapt the existing ones to my liking, it would just have been easier and, as I’m no designer, guaranteed to have looked better 😉
The designs in the Covers sections here are really amazing and will be great for inspiration.
I think I can use existing ones for the main films and try to create sets for the documentaries, as I think I will put two blu-rays in each set (main-films + special features, SW doc + ESB doc, ROTJ doc + trilogy docs -> 5 sets with 2 Discs each) as I am then not “bound” to the description of a pre made cover.

Have a nice weekend 😉

How big a quality difference is there in the latest release vs the v2.5 (17.8 GB) release?

Also no way to get the .ISO version so burning to disk can be bypassed?

Hi irishmike, welcome to the forum!

There’s no difference in quality. The numbered versions I believe you’re referring to are discussed in these threads:

Star Wars (2.7)
Empire Strikes Back (2.0)
Return Of The Jedi (2.5)

Those are the stand-alone films as MKV video files. They are available using this guide.

The release discussed in this thread are the exact same files, just with menus and special features added for burning to Blu-ray. You can find the directions for obtaining the Blu-ray versions in a guide I posted here.

As far as bypassing burning the ISOs, that’s easy. Burning them is optional in the first place. The last part of Step 10 of the guide from the paragraph above explains the following:

“ISO files are the digital images of the videos and file structures to be burned to the blu-ray disc, but it is not necessary to burn the ISOs to discs to view them. You can mount the file as a virtual drive to have your computer view the file as if it were a disc in a drive. Here is an article on how to do that in Windows. The process is even simpler in Mac OS”.

Best of luck to you and let us know if you need anymore help!

I think he’s wanting to know what the difference is in quality between 2.5 and 2.7 of Despecialized in general.

Here’s the thread about v2.7, which started as towne32’s personal color correction of v2.5 and grew into an official DEED release.

From his first post (paragraph 1 is from when it was just 2.5 with color tweaks; paragraph 2 is from when he made additional changes and he called it 2.6; paragraph 3 is about the current version, 2.7, for which Harmy provided him with the original source files):

towne32 said:

…this is a color adjusted version of Harmy’s Star Wars Despecialized 2.5. … Harmy took a unique take on the color timing. Because he had access to frames of a scanned IB Technicolor print, he based the 2.5 coloring on that. Harmy did an amazing job matching those scans. Some of the big differences in color could have only made his job more difficult, and his product looks like Technicolor scans. … Harmy was not aware at the time that his scans had not yet been corrected to match the way the print looks when projected. … The goal is just to make a more consistent version color wise that, for me, is ideal for watching in a trilogy with Harmy’s other two releases.

This is now available as Star Wars Despecialized 2.6 as AVCHD, MKV, and BD iso with alternate crawl options. MKV format releases have a fixed Castilian audio track as well as Russian, Ukranian, Thai, and Navajo dubs (in addition to the tracks in 2.5). Replaced some shots using TN1’s Silver Screen Edition, mostly for purely GOUT based shots like Luke heading to his X-wing. I did some extra manual and automatic cleanup and stabilization, and did my best to match the color, contrast, grain, and sharpness to surrounding shots.

Despecialized 2.7 builds off of 2.6 with additional color changes, mostly removing some green from the desert and Death Star. Additionally, the “A Long Time Ago” card is a cleaned up version from the Silver Screen Edition (SSE). It also features Catbus’s excellent Greedo subtitles that were derived from the SSE, and Darth Lucas rotoscoped the lightsaber blade in Ben’s hut from the SSE. This version has better video quality as I used Harmy’s lossless encodings. It features a Hindi track and Project Threepio v9.2 subtitles.

If you download the iso files and are only going to watch from your computer, you can use VLC media player. You can google it to find exactly how to do it. It’s a very simple process. Doing it this way will let you still have a menu and extras without burning anything.

Anyone know where I might be able to find ISO files for the War of the Stars I & II DVD9 and Pulp Empire BD25?

I’m working on a custom set with 15 discs including the 50gb NJVC set, SW & ESB Revisited, 4K77, 4K83, the Holiday Special, Battle of Endor, and Caravan of Courage in addition to the two I asked for above.

Two of the others I’m actually still working on getting.
Battle of Endor has been downloading for a couple weeks but I’ve not had good luck getting seeders.
And the other is 4K83. I’m just waiting for the DNR version of that to be released before I burn it. I’m actually burning 4K77 right now. I honestly had no idea a UHD movie would take 3 days to burn to ISO!

There won’t really be a DNR of 4K83 the way there was with 4K77 - the grain level on the print is very mild, so there isn’t really a need.

The closest is the ISO Blu-Ray release, which has light DNR, light sharpening, and a mild contrast/color adjustment applied compared to the MKV releases. Plus the reel change markers are removed, like the 4K77 DNR.

I think there might have been a 4K MKV of the ISO “pseudo-DNR” version released but don’t quote me on that.

Where could I find the ISO Blu-Ray release? It’d be great if I could just download it instead of creating the ISO myself from what’s on the torrents I found. As of right now, it’s been burning to ISO for the last 16 hours and it’s set to take another 58 hours+.

I’m not sure where the ISO releases have gotten out to just yet other than MySpleen, honestly. You’re probably better off asking in the 4K83 thread (and the 4K77 thread for the 4K77 ISO, which is the DNR version with an updated 4K scan of the crawl - very much worth getting).

Hi markvh123,

I’ll help you troubleshoot if you are willing to post back and forth, either on my guide thread or by sending private messages.

Downloading the blu-rays can be difficult. But please … do not buy anything that someone else has burned or ask anyone on this site to burn the discs then mail them to you.

The biggest reason Fox, Lucasfilm, and Disney tolerate Despecialized Editions is that nobody makes any money from them and the users of this site do not physically distribute them. Selling or mailing discs would cross that line and put this site at serious risk of lawsuits.

However, I can help talk you through the operation. What is the first step from my guide that is confusing you?
