Shroud of the Dark Side did this

While I personally don’t like the idea of inserting footage from other stuff (besides how Hal made Padmé survived), Shroud had a lot of cool ideas.

It also has my favorite alternate title for Attack of the Clones.

Is there a link anywhere to SotDS?

Can anybody seed it? Merry Christmas!

Here’s an idea:

Have the conflict of Attack of the Clones revolve around the Separatists having a weapon of mass destruction (The Death Star). Dooku escapes Geonosis with the Jedi knowing he basically has a nuke in his pocket. In the original film Dooku escaping means nothing, he doesn’t have Obi-Wan locked up in Carbonite in his ship or anything.

This plan would require the dubbing of a few characters, I think.

I meant to say that the Separatists didn’t actually have a Death Star in EP II, just the plans.

Perhaps the opening of Episode III could then be shifted to a battle around a heavily incomplete Death Star that would fall into Imperial hands by the end of the first scene. Then the Vader scene of him and Palpy looking off at the Death Star would make a little more sense within the film.

Maybe with a dub Anakin’s character could be improved. Maybe after Padme’s assassination attempts he’s assigned to be her protector, while Obi-Wan is assigned to investigate rumors of a Separatist super weapon being in development. Anakin feels that he should be there with Obi-Wan, seeing as the fate of the galaxy potentially falls with his success.

At first, Obi-Wan’s only link to the Separatists is Jango’s dart, seeing as he knows that he’s working for them. He goes to Kamino, all that stuff happens, he then gets lead to Geonosis, the place he’s been after all along.

For me it’s really case-by-case. With how influenced by Blade Runner the prequels are, though, I would probably be cool with a lot of Blade Runner being put in the prequels.

I just don’t see the point in inserting Blade Runner footage. While I personally don’t care for making Padme survive, for those for whom it is, it makes sense to use another film’s footage the way Hal did. But adding footage of the nightclub? What’s the point?

I think when it comes to adding footage from other sources, you have to be really careful of continuity when it comes to cinematography and artistic direction, that’s why fan films are nearly impossible to incorporate into fan edits, the cinematography is usually completely inconsistent with the film at hand. Some of the best alternative star wars footage is from the video games cutscenes just due to the fact that the aesthetic of star wars is usually spot on there. Take for example the light side ending of force unleashed 2, there’s a scene at the end where starkiller talks to vader on the ship, and vader is tied up. Some shots from this scene are nearly photo realistic and could easily be used to replace a bunch of the shots at the end of ROTS if you wish to avoid using footage that REMINDS the audience of cringey moments.

I posted an idea years ago about turning Geonosis into some sort of super weapon. At the time it was the thought of having the planet essentially fly through hyperspace so it could make surprise attacks throughout the republic - so the mysterious ‘missing planet’ subplot could be about the hunt for the mysterious Seperatist Base instead of Kamino.

Another line of thinking could be that instead of trying to tie the PT to the OT, one could think of ways to tie the PT to the ST (giftwrap the OT). We are yet to find out more from the ‘Knights of Ren’ - but could this be something Dooku and Grevious be a part of? Essentially a third Jedi faction (if the sith are the second). Could the Star Killer base be a sister planet to Geonosis advocating similar technology? (Star killer always seemed like a clumsy prototype to the nimble Death Star to me).

Tying the PT and the ST is an interesting prospect. That said, the way you propose going about it don’t appeal to me. I’m making the first Death Star the only moon/planet-sized superweapon in the saga, so Ilum and Geonosis will just be normal planets. As for the Knights of Ren, I just see them as another clan of Sith, in contrast to the Darths (or would it be the Knights of Darth?). I can’t think of any else to tie the two trilogies together, though.

Just a suggestion to return to the process of making the audience believe Anakin is dead.
I was thinking about not making Obi Wan kill Grievous and move the Grievous-Palpatine hologram scene towards the end of the movie. When Grievous says “But the loss of Count Dooku…”, it could be changed with “But the loss of Anakin Skywalker…” (taken from the beginning, aboard the separatist ship). And then Palpatine says what we know: “His death was a necessary loss. Soon I will have a new apprentice, one far more powerful”.
It could enhance the belief that Anakin is really dead, and that Darth Vader will be Palpy’s new apprentice. Of course you would have to make Grievous survive, but sill.

That would be interesting for sure, one way would be to have obi wan really fall off the ledge that him and grievous fight on, cut to the later scene where obi wan falls into the pool down below.

Or maybe the entire movie could be retooled, putting the grievous fight at the end and making that into the real climax, though the pacing would be really hard to nail in that version

My updated ‘Superweapon’ plot for Episode II:

Geonosis; the Republic’s dumping grounds.

(Remember to turn on sound!)

After some unknown battle, a Republic fleet dumps a Federation Battleship onto the largest scrap heap known in the Galaxy; Geonosis. Little does the Republic know that this planet is the headquarters of a vast rebel alliance, known as the Separatist Union. Plotting their first course of action, the Separatists devise a weapon so terrible that their victory over the tyrannical Republic is assured.

The rest of the plot would remain relatively intact. Amidala’s assassination attempts(s) would happen as normal, except the dart mystery would lead Obi-Wan to a find the dart registered to a man named ‘Fett’, living alone in a Republic Army training center on Kamino. He fights Fett in the rain and places a tracking device on his ship.

Obi-Wan would discover Geonosis and the next time we see him, at the start of Act III, he’s captured and interrogated by Count Dooku, who explains that the Republic is a truly corrupt power under the control of Darth Sidious.

After the Colosseum battle, a voice comes over the radio on a Republic transport explaining that Dooku is carrying the plans to a superweapon. Obi-Wan and Anakin make chase, climaxing in a duel. Unfortunately, however, Dooku escapes with the plans, leading to a total Galactic Civil War.

Anakin’s story wouldn’t really be changed as drastically. Anakin would start out as a noble Jedi Knight who feels like he’s ready for anything. His love of Padme isn’t ‘forbidden’ and his overtly creepy moments would be cut.

Isn’t this on the movie already ?
You can make it clearer just by moving part of Doku’s exposition at the separatist meeting (when they are all at the table) to the start of the movie.
So you’d have: Assassination attempt » Senate » Doku’s exposition » Palpatine’s Office

100% agree that more focus on the Death Star plans would be great.
I suggest trying to move that forward in the story.
So Obi-wan is looking not only for Fett but also for the plans 😉

Also 100% agree with a more quiet Anakin, it makes Padmé stronger and he more mature.
And yes, no mention of forbidden love, because that’s of no consequence for EP2.

Very cool mockups Snooker!

What does Geonosis being a junk planet add to the story, if I may ask?

Also, the old design plans for the Death Star look great! I’m in love with it. I think for any fan edit that still features that element in AOTC, that the old design should definitely be used. I think that idea could be extended to the Death Star at the end of ROTS and moving the dish to the equator, since apparently that Death Star is only a prototype and not the final one we see in ANH. It would make that clearer at least.

Did it take a lot of time to do that? I feel it could be a great asset for others.

You know, you also could have the Death Star hologram appear in the middle of the meeting room during the scene where Dooku speaks with the Separatist leaders, if you wanted to find ways to give the plans more screentime.

I feel like Anakin and Padmé’s relationship being forbidden is important for the story, but I understand why you might want to remove that idea.

Continue to share stuff with us, man! Looking cool.

EDIT: Have you tried making the hologram red like the original? I like it how you have it too but it might look good that way as well and fit more with the red flash after he closes the hologram.

I think that ‘Junk desert’ is more interesting than ‘Gross bug desert’. It also gives me an excuse for the planned opening (Republic ship flies over ‘chased’ by Federation battleship inspired by this lovely mockup: https://youtu.be/48cc5nvsZ_c)
It could also be used to imply that the Separatists are powerful enough to have their own fleet in Episode III because of the scavenged junk. The idea that the Separatists are a proto Rebellion is strengthened by making them sort of ‘rag-tag’.

Did it take a lot of time to do that? I feel it could be a great asset for others.

It took like 20 minutes. I’ll definitely upload a hi-res version of that scene for others to use.

That is a wonderful idea!

George’s attempt at ‘Romeo and Juliet’ falls completely flat on it’s face in my eyes, so keeping it seems silly. If I edit the whole thing and find it doesn’t work, I’ll put it back in.

Thank you!

I wanted to keep it white to match up with the plans in Rogue One/Episode IV. I didn’t change the red flash at the end because I thought it would be too much work for when I was making it (I was sleepy!). The flash will definitely be changed.

That clip’s not red enough to be of Geonosis.

Geonosis is so red it’s gross. I’m definitely toning it down.

JEDIT: The Dooku Death Star shot is supposed to be the end of the first scene (including the walk to the conference room ‘I want senator Amidala dead!’ ‘Don’t worry, I’m a man of my word’ , which would wipe into the first assassination attempt. Alien subtitles are everything!

You’re not wrong. But this non-red desert junk planet is basically Jakku.

Give it a cool colour grading to make it a cold desert planet? That’d help distinguish it.
