But neither Fake-Tarkin or Jar-Jar were the first rough attempts at a ground breaking idea that paved the way etc. They’re both just expensive failures by people that should know better.

I personally don’t see them as failures.

Not perfect, but sufficiently good.

Why complain about the flawless CG Leia rather than the admirable, but could use improvement CG Tarkin?

Leia showing up at all was pure fan service, and really makes no sense if you think about it. What was a senator doing at the Attack in Scariff? Strategically speaking all she was was a liability. If she was captured, Alderaan would be proven guilty of rebellion. She wasn’t fighting nor did she have any expertise, and the plan was to escape via the big ship (as per Raddus’s orders) not the freighter. Why is she there?

Or, you know, they put her there for continuity?

Her cover story to Vader in ANH relies on him not knowing that she (or her ship) was involved on Scarif. If she knew that Vader watched the Tantive IV fly away with the plans, it makes her story kinda stupid.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

It’s her trying to save face in the only way she can because she knows she’s fucked anyway.

But I agree, they shouldn’t have had her or the Tantive IV at Scarif at all, that was a mistake. Not doing that would have made this particular handwave unnecessary.

Funny you mention Leia’s movement cause she was a real actress under the CG face. (Unless you meant facial movement.)

I meant the whole person, same goes for Tarkin. I don’t know what it is, but they both do not move like they were actually there, something’s very unnatural about the movement.

Both were played by actors on set an only the face was replaced (well, with Tarkin it was the entire head) but the body was that of a real actor in costume on set. So if you think the body movement is off and looks cg, that is kinda a compliment to the CG.

As for the quality of the face, I found both to be hyper detailed. I think using a softening filter might make them less objectionable.

Well I knew that and it doesn’t make it look better just because it is done that way. It still looks crappy and I would say it’s not a compliment to the CG, more a proof of poor acting skills and the CG not able to make it look real, sorry. In my opinnion that scenes really suck.

What makes you think she’s just a senator? That may be some EU stuff, but her actions in the OT show that she was involved with the Rebel military:
-in SW she’s on an undercover mission for the DS plans & is some sort of strategist before & during space the battle.
-in ESB she briefs pilots of their mission & helps carry out the entire escape from both Hoth & Bespin.
-in ROTJ she goes on 2 different covert military missions & in both she plays a major role.
She’s not just a politician/princess.

Since nothing from before 2014 is canon anymore aside from I-VI and TCW, I’m wondering if we’ll ever see a NuEU story that gives us an explanation for how Leia and the others were able to justify taking time away from helping the Rebellion just so they could rescue Han from Jabba. Unless that was Leia’s call to make in the first place.

It’s been twenty-one years since I read Shadows of the Empire, so I don’t remember now if it was brought up.

Rouge One: Special Edition? No thanks. Probably not the best place to bring up making alterations to movies. I’ll stick with the greatness of the Original release.

I always felt as though the Leia scene was a nice Easter egg, but a little too in your face- plotwise.

The battle over Scariff should’ve been (in addition to destroying the shield) a distraction. While the battle keeps the Empire distracted, Leia’s ship is sitting further out in system waiting for the transmission. Nobody realizes they were there until Vader storms the last ship, and the Empire realizes they got duped. Wouldn’t even need the cameo, just a shot of Leia’s ship off in the distance jumping to light speed. Hmm, getting some desire to start a fan edit of this movie.

Anyways, I think there’s some really good potential to get a near perfect deepfake if you can find enough decent source photos. Even the one that was mentioned earlier I would call a passable attempt. It’s a pretty straight forward shot which always makes things easier.

EDIT: Just read through some earlier posts and realized NeverarGreat had the same idea. Glad to see I’m not the only one who thinks the plans should’ve actually been transmitted to her ship.

To fix it would be easy, just delete those scenes. No cringe and better continuity.

It would be cool if some fanedit showed the Rebel soldiers frantically transmitting the plans to the Tantive IV, floating somewhere at the edge of the Scarif system. It would still use the Leia CG, but would make for much better continuity.

Here’s a more recent attempt.

Face looks good, but the lips don’t seem to match what she’s saying as well as it used to.

I can’t believe how good Samuel L. Jackson looks in the Captain Marvel trailer. Blade Runner 2049 had a good digital facial effect too.

JEDIT- Could a kind soul fix the spelling mistake in the thread title?
It’s worse than Leia’s face in R1. 😉

Hahaaaa! I’m so sorry! Usually I laugh about people who make such mistakes and now I did it myself 😃 I’ve just corrected it now.

I like that edited version much more than the original. Well done.
