It’s not that shocking. A lot of people consider it one of the greatest films of all time. Most of the film’s negative reception stemmed from controversy about its subject material

My problem with it isn’t the controversial subject material. It’s not a very good film. Yes I’m coming from a Christian perspective, but I don’t think anything is wrong with portraying Christ as being tempted with sin and doubt. My problem is that the film doesn’t do a good job at portraying temptation and spiritual struggle.

You’re missing the part where mfm pointed out that the film is generally very well regarded. That’s literally the whole point of his post. It’s not shocking someone would rate it so highly, whether you liked it or not.

I understand that. The point of my post wasn’t that he rated it highly, but higher than Dollars.

Army of Darkness: The Medieval Deadit | The Terminator - Color Regrade | The Wrong Trousers - Audio Preservation
SONIC RACES THROUGH THE GREEN FIELDS.
THE SUN RACES THROUGH A BLUE SKY FILLED WITH WHITE CLOUDS.
THE WAYS OF HIS HEART ARE MUCH LIKE THE SUN. SONIC RUNS AND RESTS; THE SUN RISES AND SETS.
DON’T GIVE UP ON THE SUN. DON’T MAKE THE SUN LAUGH AT YOU.

God’s honest truth, I’m not all that impressed with Dollars. It’s got nice cinematography and Eastwood going for it, but it’s not particularly creative or interesting. In an alternate universe where this was a standalone film and didn’t have two superior follow-ups, I’d probably only rate it a 7.

In this alternate universe of yours how many cats do I have? In this one I only have one and I’m satisfied with that but I could see an alternate me going another way with it.

Alternate Possessed owns a pregnant cat.

Fair enough, though I certainly think it’s worth the praise it gets.

Impossible, Possessed ALWAYS has his animals fixed and I don’t see even alternate timeline me wavering on that.

But alternate you isn’t you. Alternate you is alternate you.

Yeah, that was my point. It’d be like if I was incredulous that people tend to love or admire Close Encounters. I’m well aware I’m in the minority there.

Paths of Glory

This is probably the most tragic story that I’ve ever encountered in fiction. It’s brutal to watch and is not something that I’ll be able to watch again anytime soon, but it’s definitely one of, if not the very best war film that I’ve ever seen. I’d say Apocalypse Now is still better in my opinion, but not by much.

HALLOWEEN (1978)

Very barebones but excellently executed slasher. Easy to tell why its become so iconic.

HALLOWEEN (2018)

Solid follow up to the original film.

The film First Man paints the first ever crew of the first ever mission to the moon as terrible people, which drastically contradicts what has been previously presented to us as a society. I am disappointed that they took this route in portraying them.

Give me Season of the Witch over all the Myers sequels — except maybe this latest one.

I really had no interest in seeing this but since I’m a big fan of Peter Dinklage, I decided to give it a look. I was hooked after 15 minutes. This was very interesting. I remember Hervé but not much beyond his only two roles where he received any real notoriety. Super-stardom more like, and it clearly took its toll on him, as did his early life in Paris.

The story is true and the director of the film is the reporter in the story. He went to a great deal of trouble to tell this the way it happened, not pulling any punches. The story of bringing it to the screen is also interesting and they touch on it briefly near the end of the movie. The director’s attention to detail and authenticity is extremely detailed, particularly the last thirty minutes. To explain that, which I saw in an interview with him, would be a bit of a spoiler so I’ll leave that part out of this review.

I’ve seen Dinklage in a few things and he’s always at the top of his game. He can do dark, serious, comedy, on screen and in theater. As a fan of his, this may be his finest hour. Unbelievable performance. I’ll be watching this a second time for sure.
