A little bit of Ralph McQuarrie never hurt anybody.

JEDIT III: Removed Jedit’s 1 & 2

Very cool! I feel like realistically it would be really hard to rotoscope around the actors in a not super-obvious way. I wonder if you alternatively put those pyramid like structure in the background of the existing city. It does look really cool though.

I don’t know why but this completely reminds me of Dune. Love it!

Snooker is putting quality over quantity with these image edits (unlike a certain someone). They’re truly superb.

Author
Time

Yeah, they’re both good to me. You guys should collab

Author

Absolutely amazing. How possible is it to make that in an actual video?

Also, how much McQuarrie was in the theatrical prequels?

Nothing touched by McQuarrie was actually in the prequels. Now, Coruscant was inspired by his designs, but he didn’t work on those movies. I don’t think much else was directly inspired by him and not Doug Chiang or whoever.

It would be very tricky to turn it into a video, and I’d have to make custom mattes in order to eliminate monotony. The scene’s camera isn’t very dynamic, so I guess it is possible to do?

And that is the problem with all these lovely images people have been posting. Until they’re feasible as video, they’re not particularly useful.

They’re all feasible. It’s just a lot of work.

This kinda makes me want to bring back this thread: https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/A-Collaborative-Star-Wars-Saga-Edit/id/60169

These changes are very nice, but way too much work for one person. But a group of talented editors could pull it off- it’s not just one guy who does the vfx in Hollywood.

I appreciate that this came to mind for you!

Although a lot of these ideas would be hard to practically do, I don’t these type of mock-ups should be discouraged. I remembered going through all of the two hundred plus pages of this thread just looking at Bingowings’ mock-ups and others. They really spark your imagination, and I think snooker and paja are continuing that tradition.

To me, the best thing would be for them to just keep experimenting with ideas like they have been, and also they’re getting practice from making these mock-ups. Eventually, either paja or snooker or another person will come up with ideas that are really doable that could be implemented.

Personally, I really like the idea of replacing a lot of the ship displays in the prequels with old school motion graphics. I remember Aalenfae forever go posting videos that implemented this concept, and I think it could be a great way to bridge the trilogies.

I’ve always thought that Luke’s room in Episode II looked really off, and I think I’ve isolated a few issues.

Before:

After:

Those lights were turned on in Episode IV, so I went ahead and turned them on here, too.

Also, those blinking lights on the walls are only red, green, and white in Episode IV, while in Episode II they also flash magenta and orange. I’ve removed that, because I believe that it’s one of the main culprits of the weird continuity.

I’ve also drastically cut down the scene for better effectiveness:

This scene is now about Anakin repressing his feelings and the Jedi frowning upon that, which I believe is better than him freaking out. It benefits his character and the story greatly.

Huh, that is pretty good. The light moves very slightly in the tilt-up shot of Anakin, but besides that it blends in well with the shot. I had compared this location in the two films and never thought about that light before.

Another difference is that the hexagonal lights fade in/out in AOTC, but in ANH they don’t. I’d just argue that the lights stopped working properly after 20+ years.

Author
Time

Yeah, I can’t be bothered to mess with the fade out. That would be insanely difficult for little benefit.

Author
Time

Agreed, an easy enough explanation for the difference.

I can’t be bothered to check what it looked like in ANH, because I know that regardless, I dislike this recolor. I guess I’m on my own as someone who’s willing to edit the OT to fit PT under certain circumstances.

You’re saying you are willing to edit the OT to fit the PT? You’re definitely not the only one, man.

Author

I don’t like that tone of yours, Anakin.
