Most Baffling Complaint of a Star Wars Movie — Page 8

I suppose one could make the argument that “Lord” and “Darth” aren’t synonymous.

“There are no real characters in Rogue One.”

I don’t see how, if “Darth” is a title, calling him “Lord Darth Vader” is any different than saying “Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II” or “His Royal Highness Prince William”.

There’s lots of silly formalities out there (many of them British, lol) where people are referred to by multiple titles in one go. Why can’t Star Wars have that?

Author
Time

In Empire’s crawl, ‘lord’ isn’t capitalized, making clear that it is a title, not a name. I don’t think Vader has ever been referred to as ‘the evil darth Vader’, where the ‘darth’ isn’t capitalized. That would make it clear that it was just a title. But then again, Jedi is always capitalized even when saying ‘the noble Jedi Luke Skywalker’, so a capitalized Darth may be the naming convention used for Sith lords.

But why use the ‘lord’ at all if all Darths are Sith lords? Wouldn’t using ‘Darth’ suffice? It can’t be to distinguish Sith masters from Sith apprentices, since Dooku and Vader are both the apprentices of Sidious and yet they are both referred to as Sith Lords.

It’s confusing.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Aren’t titles/ranks/etc. supposed to be capitalized when used in conjunction with a name?

Yes, when the title is being used as a part of the name, like: ‘Lord Vader, you promised…’. However they are not capitalized when saying things like ‘My lord…’, or ‘The evil lord Darth Vader’, since the lord is not a part of the name, and only references the group to which Darth Vader belongs.

Oh I have one for ya, “Why was Darth Vader in Rogue One?” I actually heard people ask that question.

Reality sucks, watch movies.

The evil lord Darth Vader, obsessed…

‘lord’ here isn’t being used as a title but rather a descriptor. He is a ‘lord,’ and is called Darth Vader.

It’s the same as if you were to say:

The valiant knight Sir Arthur…

edit: if it were being used as a title, it would be capitalized.
edit: also crucial here is the definite article “The.”

“Lord Vader” vs the “THE evil lord Darth Vader”

Nice, I knew there must be a reason I didn’t realize that was in the crawl. Damn Collipso.

The outrage when the creators of Rebels said that the Fetts aren’t Mandalorians. Just because they wear Mandalorian-looking armor doesn’t mean they have to be Mandalorians themselves.

Here a cookoo one for the Force Awakens that I heard on youtube

“It doesn’t respect george lucas”

Huh? as much as I didn’t like the movie, that was one thing that never went through my mind, talk about nutty rants"

  • The claim that Obi-Wan saying he didn’t own R2 in ANH contradicts the prequels. Obi-Wan never owned R2.

  • The claim that the Sith using lightsabers contradicts The Emperor calling Luke’s lightsaber “the weapon of a Jedi” and “his Jedi weapon”. The Emperor’s point was to mock Luke’s claim to being a Jedi Knight, and just because lightsabers are Jedi weapons doesn’t mean they can’t also be Sith weapons.

We don’t see him ever owning a droid though. He only ever uses R4 with his (Jedi) starfighter, and that’s a “work” vehicle so I wouldn’t say he owns that either. R4 would be like him having a work phone. You wouldn’t say you “owned” that.

I know, it’s just darklordoftech got the quote wrong and I’m a huge fucking nerd.

Even if he had owned a droid, he wasn’t exactly a trustworthy figure by that point.

“Is being a Sith illegal?” Just there’s no law that says, “It is illegal to be a member of Al-Qaeda,” but that wouldn’t prevent Bin Laden from being arrested, tried, and getting the death penalty, the absence of a law that says, “It is illegal to be a Sith” doesn’t mean that Palpatine can’t be arrested and tried.

The question is it like arresting them for being a member of Al-Qaeda, or more like arresting them for being Muslim?

He’s arrested for being the Sith, not a Sith, as in, the Sith they’ve been looking for who has been waging a war against them.

So Al-Qaeda, then. Valid reason, although as Mace says, he controls the senate and the courts, so he’d probably convince them that the Jedi only arrested him out of religious intolerance.

The Republic and Sith Empire were at war for a millennia.

I imagine the Jedi and Sith are part of the same “force religion”. The Sith are the extremists who have distorted their book to support their violent actions.
