He’ll watch (some) youtube clips of TV shows, but anything made for the internet is beneath him. I wonder if he ever watched Siskel & Ebert back in the day.
Please don’t compare RLM to Siskel and Ebert.
I’m sure it is, but just because there are stupid perverts that enjoy fucked up cartoons done in anime doesn’t mean that anything done in that animation style is stupid and perverted. It’s like saying that Star Wars isn’t art and is completely disgusting and stupid and then, as proof, linking to Wookeepedia.

I can post random images too. I don’t care about what anyone thinks of anime, I just think the hypocrisy is astounding.
The images I posted are from some of the most popular series among anime fanatics.
I’m no anime fanatic, but I think I would’ve at least heard of these if they were really “some of the most popular.” As far as I’m aware, action series’ like Dragon Ball and One Piece are much more popular.
The anime community is truly terrible.
You speak of it as if it’s a singular entity.

SONIC RACES THROUGH THE GREEN FIELDS.

DON’T GIVE UP ON THE SUN. DON’T MAKE THE SUN LAUGH AT YOU.
Everyone knows there is only One (1) anime fan in the world.

Outside of a few obvious differences in format and content, Half in the Bag is pretty much a modern Siskel & Ebert.

Just much more rude and much sometimes more pretentious.
The Person in Question
I still don’t understand how RLM can be considered pretentious.

“Sometimes.” It’s two guys explaining why a movie is good or bad and why everyone who likes the “bad” movies are morons.

You haven’t delved deep enough.
As someone who has been to an anime convention, those series are considered old school.
I’m going to presume you were at an anime con unwillingly?
Where were you in '77?
No, I drove five hours to be there.
But you don’t seem to like anime?
Where were you in '77?
So you used to be a creepy anime fanatic?

I’m not talking about the medium. I don’t give a shit about the medium. Siskel and Ebert are two of the all time greatest film critics. Please don’t pretend the RLM guys are anything close to that.

This is considered the height of film criticism in 2018.
So you used to be a creepy anime fanatic?
No, but I knew plenty (the correct term is weeaboo or otaku). My relationship with anime is long and tumultuous.

The Plinkett reviews do that. HITB doesn’t. I’ve disagreed with their reviews many times and have never felt they were belittling me.
JEDIT- i dont care why do i keep stepping into this
Really, not even in the Rogue One review? I can’t stand Rogue One and am considered by at least one user on here to be completely devoid of any and all compassion or empathy, and even I wouldn’t make the blanket assumptions about everyone that liked Rogue One the way they did.
The Person in Question
I’ll give ya that. The R1 review and everything attached to it was embarrassing nonsense.

I would say they are pretty close. Siskel and Ebert may be the best, but that doesn’t make RLM low. They’re intelligent and they explain their opinions well, along with critique of the objective and technical aspects.
And don’t forget that Siskel and Ebert were never perfect either.

I like it too, I just call it for what it is. I love George Carlin and he was incredibly mean-spirited in his comedy. I enjoy RLM but they’re pretentious fucking assholes sometimes. I just like calling things how I see them.

Please. Close? Come on.
Because I’m fair and okay with being wrong about this, as my knowledge of RLM is limited, I’d be interested to see an example of some actually thoughtful criticism from those guys to see if is anything near any given Ebert writing.
And don’t forget that Siskel and Ebert were never perfect either.
Define perfect?
This thread is currently hilarious.
You don’t like being recommended pictures?
And I should’ve said that various forms of entertainment, internet or not, are beneath you
Beneath me? I’m allowed to not like things.
such as British comedy
I like Monty Python and The Office.
web shows that are kind of like podcasts
That’s dumb. I like podcasts because I can listen while driving, at work, doing laundry, etc. There’s no comparison with a youtube video. Also I have found intelligent and funny people doing podcasts that were doing other things before. There’s 8 billion youtubers out there who haven’t done anything but youtubing and every time someone recommends one I last about two minutes before turning it off.
and animated material from Japan.
Ok.
