Childhood Misconceptions (aka The Trap Thread, but misconceptions still welcome) — Page 18

When I first saw Star Wars, I thought that Storm Troopers were ‘junior’ Darth Vaders, and figured that if they got more experienced and moved up the chain, they would be promoted to Darth Vader and get the black suit.

I used to think the probe-droid in ESB kept saying “needing assistance”. It’s just electronic gibberish, but I still think it sounds kind if similar.

“in need of assistance” is what i still hear to this day. even though i know it isn’t that.

Thanks. Now it will be like Stairway to Heaven backwards. With that expectation in my head, it will be obvious that’s what he’s saying!

I always hear “failure at the cave” in the second part, after the part you guys hear as “in need of assistance.”

When you guys hear “assistance” I hear “Spencer”.

When the credits rolled for The Empire Strikes Back, what impressed me the most was “Story by GEORGE LUCAS”, more so than Kershner’s credit or any of the actors’ or writers’.

Pretty sure the Emperor’s tower is supposed to be at or near the North Pole of the DSII

I had always thought it was closer to the South Pole, as the Emperor points upwards (roughly ten o’clock) when gesturing to the sanctuary moon, and Luke’s gaze follows in that direction.

Assuming, of course, that DS2 isn’t orbiting upside-down. I thought it was only flipped horizontally in post 😃

From memory he even says, “your friends up there on the sanctuary moon are walking into a trap”, though I’ll have to re-watch it to confirm it. Online quotes record him saying “out there”, “down there” and “up there” depending on which version you read!

I guess this isn’t a misconception, as I never really thought it was saying this, but Luke’s tauntaun at some point sounds like it’s sayin’ “Moppin’ time! Moppin’ moppin’ time! Grraaahh!” Like he’s the janitor and he’s tellin’ Luke it’s time to go back so he can start his shift.

According to this Bothan intelligence, the Death Star is oriented along the same axis as Endor:
Huh
Who are you going to believe?

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

I can’t wait for Adywan to fix everything!

On a side note: it’s a shame that Gary Kurtz got kicked out… could have made Return of the Jedi a 9 out of 10 rather than a strong 7.

The footage :p

It may well have looked like the diagram when the Bothans got their intel, but it’s clearly not the case by the time we enter the movie:

Huh
Huh

In the meantime Jerjerrod may have decided to finally point it away from Endor, or Palpatine may have fed the Bothans bad intel, for whatever reason.

I though it was “Garth Vader” for a while back in '77. I have no idea why. 😉

Oh, you mean THIS guy? 😉 LOL!!

That just reminds me of one of my in-jokes about Angus Khan, who comes from an alternate Universe where the Mongols took over North America and had a horde in Texas.

Well… does calling a Lightsaber a LifeSaver for at least a year count?

My dad says I called them shoomers because of the sound they made.

Someone may have said this one already, but when Luke falls into the Rancor pit, it sounds like Jabba says “TV Jedi, TV Jedi.” As if he’s mocking Luke for not being a real Jedi yet.

It’s been quiet here lately.

On Bespin when Vader says “All to easy” and gestures to the carbonite switch, I thought he was pointing at Luke while talking to the audience, breaking the fourth wall. As a kid I thought it weird that Vader would do that.

When I was a kid I only had The Phantom Menace and Return Of The Jedi on VHS, and I hadn’t seen the others, and I thought the Death Star II was what was left of the feredation ship Anakin blows up at the end of TPM.

I thought Darth Vader was the guy who choked the Pig Guards in Jabba’s Place, not Luke.

#ROTJPigmenNeverForget

Did you just assume Vader was hiding somewhere in Jabba’s palace while like and co did their thing? I am curious.
